How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.
  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won’t see the arrow telling you where to go! Get version v70000-1.0.0 or later.
  3. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)Windows 7/8 location:
    C:UsersPublicGamesWorld of WarcraftInterfaceAddons

    Mac location:

    Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  4. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an “Addons” button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you’re ready to go!
  5. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

You can also visit the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon Troubleshooting Guide, where you’ll find a fix for most common issues.

It depends on what level youIt depends on what level you find yourself at when you’re finished with the start area for Deathknights. You can go to Hellfire and get the start quests there at level 58, but once you’ve turned those in you’l run out of quests you can do quickly, as most after that require level 60+. That’s why the guide directs you to EPL or WPL, rather than going straight to Outlands

Guide problemI downloaded this addon a while back and it has been working fine, I created a character called lombardo and used this guide to level him a bit through outland and the death knight starter zone, I then deleted him and made a different character with the same name, now for some reason the WoW Pro addon is remembering where the other character was up to in the guides, so it starts of way further than where I am actualy up to. Also when i’m in the deathknight starter zone I get a ton of Lua errors and the guide sometimes doesn’t jump to the next step after one has been completed (only in the dk starter zone, despite the fact that the first time I did it everything worked fine) I have tried “reset current guide” but nothing happens, I have tried shift-clicking a guide but still nothing happens, I have tried manually unticking all the steps but I just get a Lua error and then everything just appears re-ticked. I also tried deleting the profile and re-installing the addon but it still puts me back in the exact same place. I don’t know what to do, is there anyway I can solve this?

Thanks, glad you are enjoying the addon!

The volley icon is theThe volley icon is the target button. It is supposed to target the related NPC or quest mob and place a skull over their head so you can find them.

I’m not sure if that’s supposed to show up in the Ghostlands guide, though. I’ll look into it.

Your second comment makes me thing there are still some issues with the mapping function and the StepSkip() function. Will look into it.

Thanks for the feedback, as always!

Grizzly Hills just hates us,Grizzly Hills just hates us, apparently.

Unfortunately this particular issue with the QuestPOIGetIconInfo() function has been plaguing us for a while. There is no documentation for the function, but we use it in the same way that TourGuide does as far as I can tell, and it doesn’t seem to work the same.

I’ll see what I can do. Can you make the step “sticky”? That has been successful in circumventing some bugs in the past.

Deathknight Leveling PathFirst off I absolutely love this addon, I used to use tour guide and it was great but this one is easier to setup and use imo.

Now I may be talking out my ass, but once a death knight finished the Scarlet enclave (think thats the start zones name) your guide points them to WPL and EPL wouldn’t it be more time effective to have them jump into Hellfire Peninsula right away? I only post this because with Cata coming out WPL and EPL will be changed but outland is unlikly to be affected and I have yet to find a talent build for DK that cannot take down the quests in Outland.

PS. As an after thought I notice your guides tend to only follow a single lore path, I know one zone I never saw in your guides was Slitharus (probably because its unnecessary to go there for leveling) but I would love to see in addition to the Leveling group of addons a Lore group to help fools like me get those pesky lore masters colors. If I can help build these in anyway please let me know. Tho any serious work would have to wait on Cata I’m guessing since all the lore is about to change.

Thanks for everything and keep up the awesome work

    Jiyambi’s RL IssuesHi everyone!

I just wanted to apologize for letting things go around here this week. I know many of you have submitted bugs and haven’t been answered yet. I also haven’t awarded karma points yet this week.

Please be patient with me. I just moved this week and still have many boxes to unpack. My cat, who I’ve had for fifteen years, just passed away right after the move, so I’ve been dealing with that. I’ve been attempting to get to know my new house mates as well, which means I’ve been away from my computer a lot. Finally, and probably most importantly, I’ve been preparing for my next term at university, which starts next week. All in all things have been pretty hectic!

I tell you all this not to generate sympathy, but so you know I haven’t abandoned you. I will try to get some updates going tomorrow, if at all possible, as well as respond to comments here and award karma points. Thanks everyone for their hard work writing and testing guides. You guys are the best community anyone could ask for!

Add-on freezeHi, I have a couple of comments. First, rarely, when using the add-on, I will come to a step and WoW will just freeze entirely. There is no error report to paste, so I have to manually end the program. The music still plays, but the screen is frozen. I then try to load the guide again, and when it gets to that step again, it will freeze again. I usually use the paper guide and continue ahead a couple steps, and then load it again. It has happened to me on the Grizzly Hills guide, as well as the Howling Fjord guide.

I tried deleting my WTF folder, and that didn’t solve the issue. What do you think the next step is? It’s not a huge issue, but I wasn’t sure if others had come across it as well.

Also, I noticed on the Felwood 53-54 guide (alliance), when it tells you to turn in the salve quests “Go south to Arathandris Silversky (54,86)”, it gives the wrong coordinates. I imagine this isn’t a huge concern, but I figured I’d note it.

Oh, and by the way, the add-on is amazing, kudos to everyone who put in loads of work. Quite impressive, and on par with what I’ve seen from this site.

    Thank You!Shrrtarzz,

I created a Wow-Pro account just to thank you for this tip. Thank you!

Having said that, I have been using Wow-Pro’s (Read Jame’s) guides since Vanilla and would not be working toward my 11th 80 without him. There is not a person in game that I do not point towards this site. I cannot wait for your work in Cata as no other guide nor community has done so much for the WoW community. Kudos to everyone that works on this site.

    Regards,
    Bryon

Star’s Rest bugCurrent version (1.3.0) has the same problem prior version has. Here’s output from current version:

Note that the cause of the problem seems to be the missing QID if that helps. If I manually add a QID for that step by editing the guide, the error goes away. The faceless ones and other quests produce the same problem, and the commonality seems to be a missing QID. To get past the problem, I manually added QIDs whenever I’ve encountered this problem.

As if I Needed Reasons to Love Archeology moreThat will be seriously cool. Can’t wait to give Archaeology a try. Not only did it give cool lore/trinkets/pets and mounts, but now gives XP too… Sure it isn’t as useful at the AH as Herbalism/Mining and the like, but looks to take over fishing as the best of the second professions.

This worked for me, thanks 🙂 This worked for me, thanks dude! I used notepad to edit it, and just cut and pasted your lines into my .lua file. I saved them to a .old file in case it didn’t work.

btw, before I did that, i used the option to make the step Sticky. this enabled me to carry on.

XP for GatheringI believe, if I recall the video I saw a couple weeks ago about this, that herbalism and mining give XP only. Archaeology doesn’t, but many consider it a gathering profession and so have requested it does. Skinning does not and will not as then you would get double XP. But yeah, the guides should perhaps recommend, at least new players to pick at least one gathering profession.

Addon team and coders/guideAddon team and coders/guide writers, something I’ve just noticed in beta, those with gathering professions now get xp when picking herbs/mining etc. As an example, on my little level15 test shammy, I get 10xp per pick of herbs in Loch Modan (Silverleaf, Peacebloom, etc). I still haven’t had a chance to check out what the xp is like for Archaeology yet, as I’ve been slacking and not got to level20! (building my kitchen instead :P) At least as a Dwarf I get a racial bonus for it 😀

GhostlandsWhile doing the Ghostlands guide an odd bug appeared placing a hunters volley icon (I was on my hunter) in the on use location. It seemed to show up on pick up quest and turn in quest steps.

There were also a few quests that the tom-tom arrow wanted you to go back and turn in the quest before you actually completed it (Investigate An’daroth). Of course there were a few Coordinates issues as well, while using Lightheaded, so not sure if the its wrong in the guide, not in the guide, or lightheaded’s fault.

Dragonblight fixI posted this in a reply further up, but this is the same issue, so I am posting it here as well.

The lua file for the Dragonblight guide is missing some information for these 2 quests.

Lines 125 and 126 of 002_74_75_Jame_Dragonblight.lua should read:

    A Don’t Forget the Eggs! |QID|13182|M|26.00,51.00|
    A The Faceless Ones |QID|13187|M|26.00,51.00|

I am in no way affiliated with Wow-Pro and do not work with any of their staff. I am simply another user who loyally follows these guides. Alter the lua files at your own risk.

Dragonblight fixI looked into the .lua files and found the following on lines 125 and 126 of 002_74_75_Jame_Dragonblight.lua

    A Don’t Forget the Eggs!
    A The Faceless Ones

There is no QID for either one of them. Looks like that is why it can’t clear it.

If you replace those 2 lines with these 2 lines. It works after a reloadui

    A Don’t Forget the Eggs! |QID|13182|M|26.00,51.00|
    A The Faceless Ones |QID|13187|M|26.00,51.00|

I do not work with Jiyambi, and am not affiliated with WoW-Pro in any way other than as a loyal user of their guide. Change the lua files at your own risk.

I’ve had this error messageI’ve had this error message reported by a couple other people as well. I’ll look into it ASAP (though that might not be until later this week, sadly. Moving, getting ready for classes to start = busy Jiyambi!)

You probably have somethingYou probably have something suppressing your error reports then, cause it throws a lua error in the current version. It is broken and has already been fixed, I’ll upload that tonight or tomorrow if all goes well. Sorry for being out of the loop the last few days, moving sucks!

Some of the guides have someSome of the guides have some issues with the way their coordinates are coded. It’s something we’re still trying to update, but we probably won’t get them all straightened out before Cataclysm. Our cataclysm guides, however, shouldn’t have this problem.

Horde hellfire peninsula guide bugI’m getting a bug that relates to ‘step’ being a nil value when I try to load up the horde hellfire peninsula 60-63 guide. Specifically, “AddOnsWowPro_Leveling_Parser.lua:221: attempt to index local ‘step’ (a nil value)” All other guides horde and alliance work fine. Clicking on the guide in the guide list also doesn’t load up the completion/total steps number on the right side. I tried completely uninstalling the addon settings and all and reinstalling it from the wow-pro download link and it still doesn’t work. Any ideas?

I didn’t probably explainI didn’t probably explain the second part as clearly as I should have. Others look to have been experiencing it too. Basically when you get to the end of a specific guide section, it can say 67/100, but there is not information in the guide plain. You then have to go into the guide list and select the next part. However, considering you are having to write the guides and the addon from the basement up, is remarkable. I am leveling a lock currently, and on the 16th Sept I was 30, 18th 40 and tonight on the 20th I hit 50, without BOA gear.

I see the problems with the guide as small bugs, and to be honest it is much more friendly with TomTom than I found Tourguide to be.

Thank you all for your hard work in this addon, and as usual, it is a pleasure to accredit my character’s expedited leveling to Wow-pro.com and all that the community does.

Jiyambi et all, somethingJiyambi et all, something that caught my eye today whilst looking at latest beta patch notes:

“Archaeology – Players now gain experience when collecting fragments.” (condensed version!)

As and when I can logon without crashing, I’ll try and see how this works

Most, if not all of theMost, if not all of the guides currently in the addon, are just converted from written guides here. Maybe the guide you were doing, was one that didn’t move you from place to place originally anyway. Not that much of that really matters anyhow, as viturally all the current guides are going to need at least tweaking, or completely rewriting before Cataclysm goes live.

Also from what I’ve experienced so far in the beta, there’s now not going to be so much requirement on travelling all over the world for quests. You get to a quest hub, do quests in that area, then get a feeder quest which takes you to the next hub. A lot of quests are being redone and moved about, in the areas they’re done, the best route for completing them all, npcs are being moved about etc etc.

With all the changes not only to the way quests are working but also to the playing world, and all the class changes, I’m thinking that Cataclysm is less of an expansion, and more of an almost complete rewrite

UpdateJust an update: I reviewed the code and I think the zone specification in the steps it’s not very friendly to guide writers. I’ll propose a change to Jiyambi that should solve this issue.

At any rate, this should matter less in Cataclysm.

Thanks for your feedback! IThanks for your feedback! I can say that the core addon itself can deal with steps that have waypoints set in different zones, regardless of where the player is in at the time. So this should be specific mistakes in the guide files. But since I’m currently working on the mapping/TomTom part of the addon, I’ll take a look at it.

About the loading steps manually problem, I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean. Maybe Jiyambi or someone else does and can be more helpful.

Bug-horde death knightI just finished up the horde death knight guides through the addon this morning, and that was great. But as soon as I turned in the last quest it gave me an error that is long gone now, and now whenever I load up the character the addon gives me 12 errors that I am much too dumb to copy and paste (plus, that is a lot of text). Then after that if I try to load up a guide manually it gives me 21 errors 🙁 Everything works just fine on my alliance shaman on a different server, so I don’t know what it could be.
