How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.
  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won’t see the arrow telling you where to go! Get version v70000-1.0.0 or later.
  3. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)Windows 7/8 location:
    C:UsersPublicGamesWorld of WarcraftInterfaceAddons

    Mac location:

    Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  4. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an “Addons” button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you’re ready to go!
  5. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

Darkshore FileI’ll email it to you, but I think it is in the list… or it was in my copy of the folder… then again I may have put it there back when I converted it from the website here to there. Lol. I know it is on the google code site.

The (Part 1) is an articleThe (Part 1) is an article of the old addon, and is *complete irrelevant* now. The addon relies entirely on quest IDs to get information for quests. So, editors, if you see that, you can remove it.

Using the QID to directly pull the name is an interesting idea, and one I’ll consider. Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way to make that work if the quest isn’t in your log, but I’m not sure.

Would you mind emailing me that Darkshore file, or adding it to git? I seem to be missing it completely.

  • img

Guide missing from Alliance guides.xml and QID/API question..The 000_13_20_Hairbos_Night_Elf_Darkshore.lua is missing from the guides.xml.
That guide is the perfect example of one where you may want to manually make a step sticky. At one point it suggests doing a group escort mission (The Absent Minded Professor), but if you don’t have a group, skip the step and come back. By making it sticky you can pause that step so to speak and come back to it when you are ready… or when you can solo it.
Question/Request. For when making guides. It would be nice if we don’t have to add a number to a quest if it is the second or third quest of the same name in a chain. It is helpful to track, but sometimes hard to tell which quest is which in WoWhead. The Beached Sea Turtle in the above guide is a good example, The guide lists it a few times, moving the (1), (2) etc. up each time, but the game itself and WoWHead just call it The Beached Sea Turtle. Could we just leave it as the name in game itself?
For that matter, is it possible to grab the name from the API with just the QID, even on quests that haven’t been picked up yet? I am still not 100% sure how that would look in the guide’s LUA file… “A |QID|####| |M|xx,xx|”. Basically if you go straight from the A, C, T type lead and hit QID next, it would use the name from the API, but if you put something in, then it shows whatever title you put there… I don’t know, just thinking. This may help with some localization if it can be grabbed from the API (wouldn’t help Notes, but at least the quest name would be correctly localized).

Like Jiyambi said. When TBCLike Jiyambi said. When TBC came out Blizzard had some idea of what questing should be like. Unlike in Classic where quests and leveled zones were all over the place. Another benefit is in Ghostlands the quest rewards are actually itemized, where the ones in Classic zones are still junk ie: spirit & strength on plate items.

Now when Cata comes out all this should be resolved. Blizzard is of couse not only changing quest flow, but zones will be level appropriate and the quest rewards will be itemized properly.

If you have the time before Cata to level a 2nd Undead the quests in the Undead area are quite fun in and of themselves.

You can choose to do either,You can choose to do either, but Ghostlands is almost universally considered a better zone to level in – Silverpine is not very well designed at all. But, I always think it’s good to try every zone at least once! So it’s really up to you 🙂

undead leveling addon questionReally love the addon first off, but I had a question about the undead leveling guide. After I completed Tirisfal Glades, it asked if I wanted to load the next guide and I did, and it loaded the Ghostlands. but there was another guide for Silverpine at my same level. Which one would the undead go to or is there a choice?

ZD GuideAt the point where you turn in the necklace to the Ebon Blade step 40 something, it seems to get lost. You have to complete You Can Run, But YOu Can’t Hide to get the Outfit for Dressing Down, and to talk to the NPC for step 42 Feedin’ Da Goolz. The problem is you can see these quests in the guide but the tracker skips them and says do Feedin’ Da Goolz

a note on the old outlanda note on the old outland guides, it seems in the interview with Tom Chilton, they are actually going to look at changing Outlands and Northrend to reflect the current Lore/Timeline of Cata. So these quests and guides will probably have to be redone in the future anyways.

Grizzly HillsStill loving the add-on. Testing it on a lower level warlock and a dk. Just finished the Grizzly Hills guide and it states its over before you actually finish. I believe the reason is it shows only 248 steps and there are 251. So when you finish the 248 the load next guide comes up.

old zone achievementsJust wanted to thank everyone that worked on the new addon. It’s beautiful and amazing.

I was wondering if there’s any plan to add in Netherstorm or Shadowmoon Valley sections in there somewhere.
I’ve used Jame’s guides to level 6 horde and 6 alliance characters to level 80 over the last 5 years. Recently I’ve been going back and working on Loremaster of Outlands and Northrend on my secondary characters, and it’s a real drag not being able to do these 2 zones via the new addon. I guess you could call me spoiled already. 🙂

Give it timeMany of the items you suggested are things that are planned to go in at some point. Right now the focus is on getting the leveling guides working. Once that is solid, they will look at additional features.

As for the dungeon quests, once Cataclysm goes live, the way dungeon quests are handled will be different. All of the quests for each dungeon will be picked up at or near the beginning of the dungeon. That way you will no longer need to run all over the world picking up quests. With so many people using the LFG tool, this should make it much easier on people wanting to do all of the dungeon quests.

this addon is amasing, but ithis addon is amasing, but i think u should add the talents and maybe try to get a dungion questing guide in. or try to intergrate it with dungions so that u pick up the dungion quests wile questing then que and what not.

Oh trust me, I feel yourOh trust me, I feel your pain with Loremaster. I did it without EveryQuest, before they allowed server queries for completed quests. Needless to say, it was intense! Loremaster of Kalimdor was definitely one of the hardest ones. I also found Nagrand and Blade’s Edge pretty challenging. The rest weren’t too bad.

I will keep an eye open for next time I think it doesn’t updateHi Jiyambi,

    Thanks for your answer.

Regarding the old guides – don’t get me wrong, I fully understand and appreciate your priorities 🙂

When I come across the same behavior again, I will try to describe it in details.

Do you mean I can simply type /reload in chat to get the guide updated? I wasn’t aware of that I must admit – that is basically what I was asking for.

Regarding the Loremaster stuff, it is not something I am working on myself, but I am helping a friend get there and when you get down to the last 10-20 quests it begins to be a little hard to find the missing ones – especially because you don’t know what zones you have leftovers in. Totally different in Outland and Northrend, which are easy by comparison (IMHO).

I have been playing a few more levels now and the addon is still doing great – I doubt very much you can get anything better, not even if you pay a lot of $$$ for it 😛

    Best regards
    Carsten

    Aug 17, 2010 @ 13:39 pm

Thanks for theThanks for the clarification, Lyrickcze. That’s pretty much spot on, I guess with all the other bug reports I assumed there was something else going wrong, but it’s probably just a case of expecting coordinates where none were provided.

Don’t worry, I’m going to release an update this week (hopefully tomorrow) that should fix some (though not all) of the missing coordinate issues.

  • img
    Aug 17, 2010 @ 13:38 pm

It does already supportIt does already support multiple waypoints, but the automatic tool used to convert a lot of the guides didn’t move multiple waypoints over to the new coordinate tag.

To do multiple waypoints, add the coordinates to the |M| tag like this:

    |M|44.0,55.0;66.0,77.0|

In this example, (55.0,55.0) is the first coordinate and (66.0,77.0) is the second.

We’ll try to update as many guides as possible – I know there are a lot of active editors working on updating the old guides now. But it will take time 🙂

Anyway, glad you are enjoying the addon!

    Paths from more waypointsHi,

this addon is great. It is having some issues and missing few things here and there, but hey, its 1.0.0, I can see great potential in this!

I have one question – is it / will it support multiple waypoints for single step as Tour Guide did? That was great to have for situations like “run around these 4 mob camps and kill it”.

Thank you and keep up the excellent work!

It is missing some arrowsThe Howling Fjord guide he mentoined is missing some arrows, as many people pointed out here before about other guides too. At least for the Horde one, starting somewhere in the second third of the guide, all waypoins stops, there are just coordinates in step notes.

However, if you manually try to add tag M|XX YY| to any part of the guide .lua, it works, so its seems like nothing else than problems in guide script, more than addon problems, and because of so, I dont think newest TomTom would help much.

You just have to wait until next version of WoW-Pro, when it starts reading waypoints from Blizzard POIs, as Jame told several times already.

First I thought something wrong happened to my addon when it stopped showing arrows, but then just by opening guidename.lua you will see there are simply missing tags for automatic coordinates in the later stages of the guide.

Ah, this may be why I can’tAh, this may be why I can’t reproduce it – I generally play with the auto-resizing on. I’m wondering if there are some weird loops getting stuck due to the step hide/show logic that turns on with manual resizing.

I’ll see if I can reproduce it with manual resizing turned on, and try and find where the root of the issue is. Thanks again for the report and the possible solution folks 🙂

Possible FixThis same thing happens to me every now and then, usually when a step with a large description is coming up. If I resize the WoWpro window to make it much bigger the step appears. After that I can resize it again and the step usually stays.

  • img
    Aug 17, 2010 @ 8:39 am

I’m not sure why this wouldI’m not sure why this would be happening 🙁 Have you tried loading with no other addons? It sounds like the guide is getting stuck somehow.

First off, neither Alliance nor Horde Borean Tundra guides have exactly 471 steps on the version I’m working with, so maybe I’m testing the wrong guide, I’m not certain. There were a few edits uploaded to the working copy recently, but they all had to do with coordinates so I’m not certain that they would effect this. Anyway, I can click all the way through to step 200 without having any freezing issues, and the guide acknowledges all steps I mark complete as complete.

Without actually running a character through that area, I can’t really test it better than this, so I’m not sure what to tell you 🙁 Let me know what faction and the exact step in the guide where things go wrong, and I can try to find the source of the problem. I’m sorry it’s not working correctly for you!

Doesn’t work at allIt seems like every time I install this addon, it works perfectly for a week or so then stops altogether. I choose a guide, and it says the guide and the steps (169/471) done but doesn’t show what I have to do and stops updating. It also refuses to acknowledge steps that i have marked as completed.
Im on the Borean Tundra (Jame) Guide atm.

Thanks for the detailedThanks for the detailed feedback!

There are definitely some incorrect waypoints sprinkled through the guides, especially in the older 1-60 guides – and unfortunately we won’t be prioritizing those 1-60 guides since they will become obsolete in the expansion 🙁

The addon should auto-complete in much the same way as the old one did, so I’m not sure where the behavior your describing is going wrong. Next time something that seems funny occurs, try to write down exactly what step and in what guide it happens with, and leave a comment for me. I can more easily figure out what’s going on then 🙂

In terms of the server query – the addon does this every time you load up, or when you /reload. It builds a database of completed quests, and checks off any steps that are associated with those quest IDs. Every time you complete a quest, it adds that quest ID to your completed quest database, since the database can only be refreshed from the server once every 10 minutes.

Having a way to search the database for a quest might be nice… but it’s also a little out of the scope of this addon, so I’m not sure I’ll be adding it any time soon, if ever. I’m betting there are other addons out there that DO provide that functionality in particular, though 🙂

A Loremaster guide would be great! However, I certainly don’t have time to write one at the moment, so it would be up to our other great contributors to do – and time is running out, since Cataclysm will definitely change how the Loremaster achievement/title works. For now, I suggest the addon EveryQuest for this if you are working for your title.

In Cataclysm I plan for our questing guide to cover every quest in a zone, and you can filter out lower XP quests if you want to via a sliding scale (for people with heirloom gear or recruit a friend bonuses, etc.)

  • img
    Aug 17, 2010 @ 1:05 am

    Aug 17, 2010 @ 1:04 am

There will be an update thisThere will be an update this week, with some new features and some bug fixes. We are still not prioritizing the pre-level-60 guides due to Cataclysm making them obsolete, but some fixes may be implemented depending on how much time the guide editors have.

Today i noticed that you had brought out your new addon so installed it, however i’m having problems with the tomtom arrow. Great add-on for new and returning players!I downloaded this for my brother and I to aid us in leveling our characters and overall I am very impressed! Last I played WoW, pre-BC (specifically just prior to the release of the AQ raid dungeon), there was nothing like this in the add-on scene.

As a player that has been away from WoW for several years and especially in regard to my brother who is “horrible” at this game but loves it still, this add-on is a great help! As has been mentioned before, the add-on itself has many issues here and there, missing waypoints, steps not updating, and etc, but overall the guides and the way they are implemented within the game have been a great help to us!

Eagerly looking forward to future versions! Are there any updates planned prior to the release of Cataclysm? I’m sure you are hard at work on the Cataclysm release.

Ya!!! I had already turnedYa!!! I had already turned that quest in. After posting my last reply, that though crossed my mind. I would say though, the only problem with the way it currently works, is that is marks off the fly to TB step, so some people might not know where to go to get the Steelsnap quest (unless that step is getting check off for some other reason), which if that’s the case, I have decided it’s just my computer being stupid and wanting to piss me off xD but I have not seen it happen again, so maybe it was just some wierd fluke xD

    Excellent add-on – congrats!Hi there,

As a long time user of wow-pro for the written guides and a semi-recent user of the old addon, I must say that your own new addon is really great!!!

I decided to try the new addon with a level 26 warlock, and I wanted to make sure I had done all steps from the leveling guides starting from 1. Basically the guides works very fine, but there are (naturally I guess) a few issues with wrong waypoints, for example “Protecting the Herd” in Dun Morogh points to Elwynn Forest which is a bit confusing. Other than that is is VERY impressive.

I just wanted to bring your attention to a few things that I feel could be better. First the addon seems less “intelligent” than the old. By that I mean when you are directed to a quest via travel or flight, I think the old addon closed those steps, when you selected the quest (as if it deducted you had to be there). Secondly the addon is sometimes rather sluggish updating when you accept or hand in quests which sometimes can be very confusing when you are on a questline named identically. Maybe you could add a query option so the user could query the server for completed quests – I am not sure if that is how the addon operates.

I also have a suggestion in terms of guides – a “Loremaster” guide for Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor. I guess it could be constructed programmatically by simply listing all known quests for a certain continent and then let the user see zones with missing quests.

I am very impressed with the level of commitment you folks at wow-pro are showing year after year – kudos to you for bringing us the best guides and related tools all free of charge 🙂

    Best regards
    Carsten

Upon looking at the specificUpon looking at the specific steps involved, I know exactly why this is happening.

Those run steps are tied with turning in the quest “Melor Sends Word” – I’m betting you already turned it in. The guide will automatically mark those complete if that quest is complete.

In the future I’m going to be adding a way for steps to depend on *multiple* quests, not just one – since you need to go to TB in this case to pick up Steelsnap, turn in Sacred Fire, and also pick up Arikara.

    Hope that clears things up!

Nope, not using aNope, not using a non-english client =/ I am stumped as to what might be doing this. Especially since it seems to be random steps taht it is ‘auto completing’. I can not seem to find any certain pattern to which steps it is checking off on its own. At first it seemed to be the FP steps (getting new FP or Flying somewhere) but as I said in my last reply, now I noticed it with a few other steps.

Sticky steps have their ownSticky steps have their own background color setting, so unless you changed that, it’s default is a light gray background.

Sticky steps can use any icon type, it’s simply a modification of the normal type. They will stay up at the top of the window, colored whatever color you set them as, under a little heading saying “As you go…”. So now if you see them you’ll know what they are 😀

No, I don’t think so, basedNo, I don’t think so, based on the way we collect the information and the fact that run/travel steps are effected too, not just get flight path steps.

Are you using a non-english client? I don’t see why this would produce this particular error, but it’s worth asking.
