How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.
  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won’t see the arrow telling you where to go! Get version v70000-1.0.0 or later.
  3. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)Windows 7/8 location:
    C:UsersPublicGamesWorld of WarcraftInterfaceAddons

    Mac location:

    Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  4. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an “Addons” button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you’re ready to go!
  5. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

You can also visit the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon Troubleshooting Guide, where you’ll find a fix for most common issues.

LocalizationI’ve used Lib Babble Zone and some of the translations provided by Tekkub. This should allow the addon to work properly on most clients. Everything will still be written in English, but for mapping and auto-completion purposes, the addon should be fully functional.

I’m not releasing it officially until I can get a few people to test it, however. You can find the beta files on our github site, here: http://github.com/downloads/Jiyambi/WoW-Pro-Guides/WoWPro%20v1.0.1.zip

If you run WoW in a non-english client, please consider downloading and trying this out 🙂

Okay update. I just did theOkay update. I just did the 1-5 section of the BE guide with no problems.

I’m thinking 1 of two things might be going on. First, it could be a class or race specific issue since there are class and race quests there. What class/race were you? I played it as a BE mage and had no issues.

Second, do you have the guide set to enable resize? At the moment, if the guide is resized too small to display the full step, nothing will display. Try changing to manual step number, or resizing the guide larger. In the future I’m adding code to keep this from happening, but for now just make sure the window is large enough for you to see the step.

In short: no. ZygorIn short: no. Zygor requested that we remove the old addon because it was based on Tour Guide, which he now owns.

Let me experiment and see if I can duplicate your issue, if it happens so early in the BE starting area it should be easy for me to test, and I can see if I can get it fixed for you 🙂

Is there a way to get a holdIs there a way to get a hold of the old add-on? The new one doesn’t work for me. Once I get so far into the guide, the steps fail to show up. For the Azuremyst Isle, the guide got gobbled up around step 21, and for the blood elf starting area, it stopped working after the 3-4th step. I’ve tried both re-downloading and deleting the settings out of the saved variables folder, and neither have helped.

The arrow has been behavingThe arrow has been behaving oddly for a few people, though I haven’t heard of it actually completely disappearing and not showing back up before.

Thank you for being detailed with what guides you were using and where you were in them. Just glancing at the guides, I don’t see a problem in their code, so I think the code I am using to feed the coordinates to the arrow might be malfunctioning.

I don’t know what to tell you for now. Let me know if it changes at all. I’ll be looking into this part of the code in depth so hopefully that will produce a fix, but it won’t be right away 🙁

Disappearing arrow? My arrow doesn’t show up! When i first got this addon i was leveling with a friend and was level 2 at the time. Then, when he left, I went onto one of my alts; A Troll shaman and when I took the quest “dark storms” the arrow disappeared! So i went onto my level 27 tauren warrior And selected stonetalon mountain 27-28 guid, and the Arrow never appeared! Confused about this, I created a new character, an undead priest and the arrow only stayed untill I completed “A rude Awakening” and then just disappeared Please help me with this problem!!!

Hmmm, could be a holdoverHmmm, could be a holdover from Lightheaded, could be something lost in translation, since these guides were mostly converted by an automatic tool one of the contributors made. I’ll try to get these fixed if someone has time to do so, but the errors may just end up being left there. Unfortunately we aren’t prioritizing fixing errors in the 1-60 guides at the moment, since they’ll be wiped out in Cataclysm.

Issues with Horde guidesI’m not sure if it’s a coding issue, personal preferences, or something that hasn’t been fixed from Lightheaded, but in the Searing Gorge guide, the towers you’re supposed to burn weren’t coming up as waypoints, just the coordinates in the notes.

Also, when I clicked “next guide” to go into the Un’Goro guide, it didn’t do anything, so I had to manually click on it.

Finally, At the start of the Un’Goro guide, the Hearth to Org and fly to TB were already marked, and the waypoint for “Bone-Bladed Weapons” was set to Un’Goro, and not Org. Maybe they’re the “Set to”, instead of “use/fly to”.

It should be PnP, I’ve neverIt should be PnP, I’ve never seen the issue you are describe. I assume from what you said that you see a guide list and guides there, and you see a window, but nothing loads into it? It silently errors out, no error messages?

One thing I might check – if you used our old addon, make sure to delete any WTF files pertaining to WoW-Pro. I’m really not sure how this could cause the problem you are describing, but it’s worth trying.

Unfortunately I really am not sure what I can do to troubleshoot the problem you’re having – I know it’s not something that happens to me or others I’ve talked to. Try disabling other addons to see if there might be a conflict.

I’m betting you saw theI’m betting you saw the 55-60 death knight guides at the bottom of the list and thought they were the highest level guides available. If you scroll up, just above those you’ll see the 60-80 guides.

I really don’t know whatI really don’t know what would cause this, I haven’t had it reported by anyone else. Let me know if you get any errors when this happens or anything else that might help me solve the problem, unfortunately at the moment I just don’t know enough about what’s happening to do anything about it 🙁

    RE: RE: Suggestion response…

Current Guide Panel – We hope to allow guide scrolling in the main panel in the future, which might help. Also, someone gave me the code to fix the bug where it sometimes doesn’t open to the right page, but I lost it 🙁 I’ll have to hunt for it again, completely forgot about that. Believe it or not, this is Blizzard’s code’s fault, not mine 😀

This I’m not surprised on, many of my other add-ons also do this. I think it has something to do with the sub-option menus being closed, if they’re open/fully expanded then it works fine.

Open quest log by clicking the quest step – Did you try this? It’s already been implemented, but it’s possible it’s not working properly. Left-clicking should open it.

Yes, I tried left (and right) clicking the quest step itself. It does nothing. 🙁
Also the check boxes seem a little small to me. Is there anyway to re-size those? I’d personally like them about the size of the icons on each step. Or maybe make them another color? The seem to blend in with the background a little bit, especially when the guide is on a darker background.

Step wrap – Get me a screenie, since I’m not sure exactly what you mean.

Here’s your screenshot.

See how it just puts an ellipsis at the end… this only happens if the step is too long and the guide window is too small. There is no way to SEE the whole text unless you open the guide. This makes longer instructions harder to read. If the text for the step wrapped to a second (or even third) line it could show the whole text. Or if the guide window would auto-size to the line length, but that option would only be best for when the Manual Step Number option is checked.

Sometimes if the step is too long for the window it won’t display anything at all.

Checking the mouseover notes option you mentioned below resolves this, but it’s not a default option, see below.

Hovering tooltip – already implemented, check display options 😀

Oops musta missed that. It resolves the issue above tho, or at least one of them… Now having an option to display it on the left or the right of the list would be great.

Auto-hide in combat option – good suggestion, will add at some point. For now, if it gets in the way, you can double-click the titlebar to hide.

Ooh that’s pretty slick. Hmm, maybe my next guide will be a how-to/tips and tricks for the guide itself. Well, after I get the Voidwalker costume done for the Penny Arcade Expo this year…

Racial Requirements – Just like in Tour Guide. Just use a |R|Your Race| tag when writing the step into the guide, obviously replacing “Your Race” with whatever race it is. Some of the current guides aren’t using them where they should, but the functionality IS in there.

Would this be something to submit in a bug report, or is this just something of a more personal preference?

All in all I’m very impressed with the guide. It has a lot of display options that the old TourGuide didn’t. I really like that the fonts themselves can be re-sized.

Wrong waypoint in the 28-30 guide for Thousand Needles (Horde)One of the last quests of the guide, Sacred Fire has a quest turn in waypoint that is wayyyy off. Like, it shows up outside of the Thousand Needles map, into Hillsbrad Foothills, when the turn in is actually in Thunder Bluff.

Yes, the old one isYes, the old one is outdated.

    This is a replacement.

It will catch up *roughly* to where you are, though you’ll need to select the guide that you are currently on. Basically the addon checks what quests you have completed and checks all of those off, but a couple of steps might not automatically complete.

Is it worth it? Definitely. There are a TON of new features and you’ll need to switch over for the Cataclysm guides eventually anyway since we’re not going to be writing them for the old addon anymore.

  • img
    Aug 5, 2010 @ 1:26 am

Ah, this is probably aAh, this is probably a holdover from when we were using Lightheaded for these things. It’s probably a guide file issue then and not a mistake within the addon’s code.

Since IC won’t be getting destroyed in Cata, hopefully we can get someone to correct those steps soon 🙂

Loving this!Yay I’m loving the new add-on… very smooth. There are some possible future features I’d like to see now that I’ve had a chance to play with it.

The ability to open the current guide in a separate window by clicking/right clicking the title bar, or perhaps the frame. Sometimes when I ask it to open the current guide from the drop down menu it will just open the add-on options window only. Also have the option to open the quest log by clicking/right clicking the current quest step.

I’d like to see the longer step text wrap. When the guide is re-sized small, or resizing is turned off because the manual step number option is checked, the window will be too small to see the whole step and sometimes even the note below. Having an option to put the notes in a hovering tooltip could be another option.

The ability to hide the whole thing while in combat I think is a suggestion I saw earlier when it was still in alpha stage…

Are there options to designate quests with specific class or racial requirements? I know particularly in the 1-12 range guides the short “this is a flight point” quest chains are race specific, so if you take a human to Dun Morogh you won’t be able to get the “Honor Students” quest and the chain that follows it. It would be nice if the add-on skipped over these steps…

If you live a long life, it will be a testament to your friends’ self control.

And after some more playing, I’ve noticed that I get a few arrows, mostly on active steps (go kill this, click this…).

Where I am really missing the arrows is when I am told to pick up a new quest, but there is no tooltip saying who to go to, and no arrow to point which camp the giver is in.

    Thanks again.

WaypointsHey guys, thanks so much for the new addon! I love the cleaner look.

One issue I’m having is that I am not getting waypoints with the guide for Icecrown. I don’t know if it is an issue with the guide or if there is something stupid that I am doing to mess it up 😛

I have tried both Carbonite and TomTom, (yes, the setting to emulate TomTom is checked in Carbonite).

Zone names on non EN clientsI am currently testing it on a French client. It works wonder so far, safe for the “Zone not found. Using current zone” message that appears after each completed step (commenting the line #30 in the WoWPro_Mapping.lua file works fine to prevent it from being printed).

I was wondering if something could be done to localize the names of the zones without rewritting all guides for a specific language? Otherwise, could an option be added to hide this error message?

Thanks for all your work, your guidesof this site were already incredibly helpful, but this little addon is utterly full of win.

Addon – v1.0.0 – ReleaseNew version of the addon is available for download here, on github, WoW Interface, and Curse! Download links in the above article.

    Current Version: 1.0.0 – Release

    Bug Fixes:

Core addon and module are now independent

Core addon libraries now load correctly (can be loaded without errors if no TomTom)

Quest tracking text will no longer sometimes remain after the guide has moved on from that quest

Quest tracking objectives will now update while in combat. However the main guide will wait until after combat to update.

The LUA error caused on start up with some guide files should no longer occur – this had to do with a error in the optional quest code.

Guide now checks your zone on load, as well as when entering a new zone
