Installation

Download and install the following Addons

  • WoW-Pro Leveling Addon – The base of the addon.
  • TomTom – Handles coordinates (It’s that arrow which points you to where you need to go). If you have Cartographer, you don’t need this, since Cartographer has it’s own arrow.
  • Lightheaded – Makes TomTom even better, make sure to install this addon or you won’t always get a TomTom arrow to show you the way.
  • WARNING: If you have QuestHelper installed, you should disable it, or at least disable the TomTom arrow option in Questhelper, or it will conflict with our addon and give you wrong directions.

If you are not familiar with the installation of addons, it can be done as follows:

  1. Download and unzip the addon files.
  2. Navigate to the World of Warcraft directory
    • Windows XP: C:\\Program Files\World of Warcraft
    • Windows Vista: C:\\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft
  3. Open the “Interface” folder, then the “Addons” folder inside it.
  4. Copy and paste the “WoW-Pro”, “TomTom” and “Lightheaded” folders into the World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory.

You can check in-game if you’ve installed it correctly; when you go to the character selection screen, on the bottom left corner of the screen is a button called “Addons”. Click that, then scroll down and look for Lightheaded, TomTom and WoW-Pro (it’s in alphabetical order). Make sure they’re
enabled.

It should look like this:

Once in game, you should see the TourGuide bar under your minimap:

If this is a new character you just created, the correct guide should already be selected automatically.

If this is not a new character, click the TourGuide bar, a window will pop-up with a list of guides sorted by zones and level ranges:

Pick a guide close to your level and in a zone where you haven’t done all the quests.

There you go, just follow the addon!

Using the Addon

Following a Guide
For the most part, the guide is easy to follow. A phrase will appear on the TourGuide bar accompanied by an icon. The icon meanings are as follows:

This ingame help menu can be accessed by heading to the menu, then selecting “Interface”, then “Addons” (up near the top), then expanding (click the + button) “Tour Guide” then selecting “Help” (you can see the “Addons” button and the “Help” part to the left of the screenshot)

Use Item Button
If relevant (for example, the quest Gruesome, But Necessary where you have to use the item on the mob’s corpses), a small box will appear. It will have the graphic of the item to use for the quest. You can move it by left-clicking
and dragging. Left-click on the box to use the item.

Comments
In addition, there are comments on most objectives that can be accessed by mousing over the TourGuide bar. I’ve entered them into most objectives; except, for the most part, Accept objectives and Turn-in Objectives, though I do list where each turnin block is on the first objective of the group.
It’s a good idea to be checking the TourGuide bar before you do each objective. I’m planning in future to add an indicator to the TourGuide bar so users will know if an important comment is present for an objective.

Note Objectives
Note objectives come in two types; auto-completing and non-auto completing. The auto-completing notes should be most of them. However, some will not auto-complete (and indeed are not intended to, meaning that you only click them after you know what you
should do).

These non-auto completing notes should come in three flavours: “Repair, restock and vendor junk” (a general reminder when in town and beginning a new circuit, matches those in the guide); “READ THIS” (used to convey important information about the next objective that you want to know before you start) and “Things to do” (side objectives to complete as you quest).

I’ve tried to keep non-auto completing notes to these three formats, but I’m fairly sure I’ve slipped in places, so bear with me there.

Author’s Note: Not all of these guides have been thoroughly playtested and as such there will be some errors. I do try get it right, but they do slip through. Wowhead or Jame’s internet guide will help in the case of an error.

Supplementary Addons

DoubleWide – A simple but helpful addon, it makes the quest log twice as wide and much easier to read.

This section is still just new (I know about QuestHelper but LightHeaded performs the same function), so suggestions for improvement are welcome.

Known Issues

If you have a problem, be sure to check the leveling addon FAQ page before asking a question – it only takes a minute, and the answer might be easily found there! If you still have a problem, feel free to post a comment
anywhere on the leveling guide pages and we will respond as soon as possible.

Borean Tundra

  • Hellscream’s Vigil: This quest will not auto-complete for some people, due to there being a separate quest by the same name for those who did the Thrall questline in Nagrand.
  • The Lost Spirits: The use item button doesn’t show up for “The Lost Spirits” quest (It’s the “Core of Malice”). This is due to the item not being in the inventory at the start of the quest.
  • Drake Hunt: Again not a bug per-se, the second time you grab it (as a daily) is included as a note instead of a accept/complete/turn-in objective set because Tour Guide otherwise detects the quest as complete (due to it sharing the same name as the
non-daily version) despite quest ID, which is supposed to resolve these sorts of issues.

Grizzly Hills

  • Latent Power: One of the stone’s coordinates won’t show up as it wasn’t entered correctly (the northwestern one). It can be found at (71.10,39.00). Also, the use item button is missing. These issues will be corrected in the next upload.

TroubleHello, ive been a LONG time user of your guide, and just noticed tonight that you had an addon version, and was going to install it, but had issues with TourGuide, I followed your link to it, downloaded, unzipped it, and then moved the TourGuide 2 folder to the addon file just as all other addons. This worked for lightheaded and TomTom, but TourGuide is not showing up on the addon screen, is there another folder I am supposed to move from the main TourGuide 2 folder to the addon folder as well? if anyone could help with this i would greatly appreciate it!

preventing them to linkThere are several ways.
First is to just redirect all links directly to the file to the addon page itself.
So if i go to the site and klick the link from here, it will download, but when i am not as referred from wow-pro i ban the usage.
Kind of the same principle as anti hotlinking.

Or redirect all traffic protocols from there to the standard error page / link page.

  • img
    Mar 13, 2009 @ 8:22 am

That makes sense. At oneThat makes sense. At one point, I was looking at how these things get posted, and people just ‘suggest’ them, and they put them up.

I do recall Jame’s being somewhat opposed on traffic grounds, though. It is going to be near impossible to get them taken off, I bet.

In the mean time, I’m going to use it to update my tourguide versions.

PS, The reason I haven’t done various things recently (i.e, work on testing the 1-12 belf) is that I’ve had a few troubles with billing and haven’t been able to get on for a few weeks, hoping to have this sorted soon.

I’m not really sure how it all works yet, I’m going to forward the conversation to Jame and let him decide what to do about it.

Speaking of which, Jame should be more active soon, he had some RL stuff to take care of.

    Hi,Sent them this message:

Hi, this is Jiyambi from WoW-Pro.com.

We had a user on our sight report that WoW-Matrix is hosting Jame’s leveling guides for download. Jame has repeatedly mentioned on WoW-Pro.com (his website) that he will not provide those guides for download anywhere but on his site. It sounds like these guides are being provided and distributed here without his permission. Unless he has been in contact with WoW-Matrix to approve this, I would like to request that you remove these guides from your available downloads. Jame will probably contact you himself soon, but he’s pretty busy with RL right now so I thought I’d give you a heads up first.

    Thank you for your time.

Since the WoW-Pro guides are much better than the standard ones. If you want to use the standard guides, I’m afraid you’ll have to disable the WoW-Pro Tourguide addon.

Weird Issue with GuidesI’m having an issue where when I load in (with WoW-Pro’s guides not enabled in my add-on screen) the Tour Guide standard ones show, but when I enable the WoW-Pro guides through the add-on screen, the Tour Guide standard ones are gone from my in game list and only the WoW-Pro ones are left. This didn’t happen on my laptop when I started to run these add-ons (both TG and WoW-Pro’s guides showed like in the examples above) so I don’t know how to fix it.

I believe ‘group’ should be ‘ground’.

    Horde 41-51 UPDATEHey folks,

I just finished testing and doing a massive revamp on the Horde 41-51 section. It’s far from perfect, but also much better than it was. This shouldn’t receive the “quality” sticker just yet, but it’s definitely play-able now and shouldn’t have any major problems. Most remaining issues are stylistic and will be fixed slowly as folks play it through.

The file can be downloaded here, is linked in the table above, and will be part of the next addon release.

Alliance Grizzly Hills notesA couple things I noticed while running through Grizzly Hills. I hope this is where you’re supposed to post stuff like this, sorry if I’m wrong.

The quests “Take Their Rear!” and “Replenishing the Storehouse” both lack reference coordinates suggesting where to go. Not terribly important, since there’s a note describing the locations, but they’re nice features 🙂

The quest “The Failed World Tree”, which involves collecting slimes while doing “A Dark Influence” is listed as being a “complete the quest” step at the first step of “A Dark Influence” even though you have until the third step to actually finish killing slimes. Also, that first step [use the orb at Vordrasl’s Tears, I believe] did not autocomplete like the next two steps did. That might have been because I was messing around with the Failed World Tree, though, and going back and forth between the two steps.

There’s a step in Thor Modan that says “If you have a flying mount turn in a quest.” It might be useful to put “If not, just move onto the next step” so people don’t think they’re supposed to run up there either way.

The quest “A bear of an appetite” is listed as being a “do all at once” the first time you’re in the area, but you actually go back to that area once more before you’re directed to turn it in. This is the way its worded in the official guide, but I’ve always just done it in two steps and it seems to work okay. Doesn’t really matter either way, but I figured I’d mention it since I’m saying all this anyhow.

There was a step labeled “Going down in Dun Algol” where you put on the iron dwarf disguise and travel to the place where you kill the Thane with the pet gollem. It didn’t autocomplete when I got there. I think its possible for it to behave that way?

Also, I didn’t notice a comment about how you can mount up and then use the disguise. I might have just missed it, but if not adding it would probably help people who haven’t done the zone before.

Finally, there was weirdness with the quest “My heart is in your hands.” THere was a “collect 5 mojo” step which went just fine, but when I got them it sent me back to the tower where you loot the heart instead of to the brazier to summon Drakuru. I’m really not sure what happened there.

Not that I can see. I haveNot that I can see. I have WoW auto-tracking turned off in the standard interfaces option, but that doesn’t stop quest tracking – it just stops the game from auto-tracking quests. I can still manually turn quest tracking on for certain quests (not that I want to) and TourGuide can do the same.

A simple checkbox in the TourGuide options to enable/disable quest tracking (default: enabled) would be perfect.

I use other quest trackingI use other quest tracking mods, so I don’t need the in-game quest tracking, and the in-game quest tracker is positioned in a rather annoying place for me and I can’t move – I like having something else displayed there and it overlays my other display making both unreadable.

The only way I know of the turn off the tracking is to manually open the quest log, shift-click on all the quests which are currently being tracked to turn them off. However, TourGuide just reenables tracking everytime I complete a step so I have to keep turning them off a lot which is very frustrating for me.

So for me, it’s annoying and it would be nice to have an option in TourGuide to say you don’t want auto-tracking enabled. Apart from this one feature I find it great mod and really enjoy using it.

Patch files for Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, and TerokkarI’ve played a bunch of alts through the Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, and Terokkar guides, and have patchfiles for the changes to the guides. To whom would I send them? Is there a better mechanism than patchfiles? Horde 41-51: Feralas (50-52)I have finally finished the 41-51 part of the addon. For the final section in Feralas the only bug I think was for the quest ‘Improved Quality’ there is no direction arrow, the co-ords for the Yeti’s are(52,32). For the quest ‘Treant musiek’ the arrow takes you to the furthest spawn point, then once you get there it changes to the closest one to Camp Mojache. It might be best as you need 3 kills to have it set to go to the closest spawn point first, then the furthest, then back to the closest? I will carry on levelling with Jam’s online guide, is there an eta for the 51-60 guide?

When you pick up the wanted quests, just before going to Jintha Alor there is no description for the instruction saying where to get the quests, or an arrow showing where.

There are some problems when you are doing the quests in Jintha Alor as well. several of the quests/instructions do not have arrows showing where to go such as the instruction ‘Pick the bones’ which also does not auto complete. ‘Kidnapped Elder torntusk’ has no description or direction arrow, the same for ‘Seperation Anxiety’ which has has a mistake in the quest description, the same line is repeated twice i think.

I hope my bug reporting will come to some use! i am enjoying the guide!

If there is a leak then it’sIf there is a leak then it’s very probably not in the Data. But nevertheless it’s really memory-consuming, that’s right, so you could just take a look into the lua files and check if you see quest names, item names etc? 🙂

Which Lightheaded DataDoes anyone know which lightheaded data is the one that holds the quest info and locations for npc’s. There is a memory leak in it somewhere it seems and it’s driving my memory usage up pretty high. The only portions I really use are the ones that provide the info of where to grab and turn in quests so I’d like to just use those portions.

Tanaris (47) / Hinterlands (48-51)At the end of the Tanaris (47) guide it tells you to go to Org, when you’re there it tells you to train, restock, retrain and then go to Tirisfal Glades. It doesn’t tell you to turn in the 3 quests that you should have! which Jame’s guide say to do at this time.

After you have turned in ‘Cortello’s Riddle’ at the base of the waterfall in the Hinterlands, Jame’s guide says to go straight to Revantusk Village, However the addon has a quest included called ‘Whiskey Shin’s Lost Grog’ to do while you are on the way to Revantusk. not sure if it should be included or not? and as I only started the guide at Feralas (46) I have not seen if the addon tells you earlier on to pick it up, or not.

Jame’s (41-51): Tanaris (47)Worked my way through this part of the guide, only problem I discovered was a spelling mistake in the quest description for the quest ‘Stoley’s Shipment’ where instead of pirate it said prirate. Also when you are getting the quests in Gadgetzan, possibly the order to get them could be in a better order so you can do a circle around Gadg. to get them rather than go back on yourself several times.

I remembered another bug in the Feralas (46) part, the co-ords for the quest giver for the quest ‘The Mark of Quality’ are wrong. I cant remember where they are set to, but when I was standing next to the quest giver, the TomTom arrow said i was over 3000 yards away from him.

Im onto the Hinterlands (48) Guide now, so will report any bugs when I can.

Horde Guide 41-51:Feralas (46)Hi, been levelling up another Horde char with your guides and have just switched over to the addon again. I have started on the Feralas (46) part and have noticed a few points/errors.

When you take some quests there is no direction addon appearing showing the way to go. The quests so far I have noticed are ‘Alpha Strike’, ‘A New Cloaks Sheen’ and ‘Woodpaw Investigations’.

In addition the instructions for ‘A New Cloaks Sheen’ showing the co-ords for the sprites as being 70,74. This is wrong it is 70,47.

Am hoping to get to the end of the 41-51 by Monday, so will post any more errors I see when I can.

Thanks again, for all the great work!

    Update:
Finished the Feralas (46) part. There is a problem after you arrive at the ‘Ruins of Isilden’ as the guide goes immediatly to say ‘The Gordunni Orb’ and the description is along the lines of ‘click on the item to begin the quest’.
There is no mention of doing the quest ‘the ogres of feralas’, nothing saying the shamans are further into the ruins and you have to kill Mage-lords for the Gordunni orb to drop, and you don’t click on the Gordunni Orb, its for a quest, it does not start one.

Finally when you hand in the quest ‘A Grim discovery’ the guide completes, it probably should say that you want to take the follow up as well. It also jumps to one of snowflake’s guides instead of the tanaris (47) one.

    Update (2):
Im on the Tanaris (47) part of the 41-51 Horde guide. I have just flown and set my hearthstone in gadgetzan. The first quest that appears is ‘Wanted: Caliph Scorpidsting’ and the one after is ‘More Wastewater justice’. The location from Jame’s guide ‘Waterspring Field (63,37)’ is missing and there is no arrow pointing where to go.
Possibly ‘More Wastewater Justice’ could come before the other quest as well?

Keeps getting betterIve had this working for bout 10 min and love it already, you rock Jame. I was worried it might not work with Carbonite, but I am glad to say it does just fine. Jame’s guides + Carbonite = sweet sweet leveling goodness.
