Installation
Download and install the following Addons
- WoW-Pro Leveling Addon – The base of the addon.
- TomTom – Handles coordinates (It’s that arrow which points you to where you need to go). If you have Cartographer, you don’t need this, since Cartographer has it’s own arrow.
- Lightheaded – Makes TomTom even better, make sure to install this addon or you won’t always get a TomTom arrow to show you the way.
- WARNING: If you have QuestHelper installed, you should disable it, or at least disable the TomTom arrow option in Questhelper, or it will conflict with our addon and give you wrong directions.
If you are not familiar with the installation of addons, it can be done as follows:
- Download and unzip the addon files.
- Navigate to the World of Warcraft directory
- Windows XP: C:\\Program Files\World of Warcraft
- Windows Vista: C:\\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft
- Open the “Interface” folder, then the “Addons” folder inside it.
- Copy and paste the “WoW-Pro”, “TomTom” and “Lightheaded” folders into the World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons directory.
You can check in-game if you’ve installed it correctly; when you go to the character selection screen, on the bottom left corner of the screen is a button called “Addons”. Click that, then scroll down and look for Lightheaded, TomTom and WoW-Pro (it’s in alphabetical order). Make sure they’re
enabled.
It should look like this:
Once in game, you should see the TourGuide bar under your minimap:
If this is a new character you just created, the correct guide should already be selected automatically.
If this is not a new character, click the TourGuide bar, a window will pop-up with a list of guides sorted by zones and level ranges:
Pick a guide close to your level and in a zone where you haven’t done all the quests.
There you go, just follow the addon!
Using the Addon
Following a Guide
For the most part, the guide is easy to follow. A phrase will appear on the TourGuide bar accompanied by an icon. The icon meanings are as follows:
This ingame help menu can be accessed by heading to the menu, then selecting “Interface”, then “Addons” (up near the top), then expanding (click the + button) “Tour Guide” then selecting “Help” (you can see the “Addons” button and the “Help” part to the left of the screenshot)
Use Item Button
If relevant (for example, the quest Gruesome, But Necessary where you have to use the item on the mob’s corpses), a small box will appear. It will have the graphic of the item to use for the quest. You can move it by left-clicking
and dragging. Left-click on the box to use the item.
Comments
In addition, there are comments on most objectives that can be accessed by mousing over the TourGuide bar. I’ve entered them into most objectives; except, for the most part, Accept objectives and Turn-in Objectives, though I do list where each turnin block is on the first objective of the group.
It’s a good idea to be checking the TourGuide bar before you do each objective. I’m planning in future to add an indicator to the TourGuide bar so users will know if an important comment is present for an objective.
Note Objectives
Note objectives come in two types; auto-completing and non-auto completing. The auto-completing notes should be most of them. However, some will not auto-complete (and indeed are not intended to, meaning that you only click them after you know what you
should do).
These non-auto completing notes should come in three flavours: “Repair, restock and vendor junk” (a general reminder when in town and beginning a new circuit, matches those in the guide); “READ THIS” (used to convey important information about the next objective that you want to know before you start) and “Things to do” (side objectives to complete as you quest).
I’ve tried to keep non-auto completing notes to these three formats, but I’m fairly sure I’ve slipped in places, so bear with me there.
Author’s Note: Not all of these guides have been thoroughly playtested and as such there will be some errors. I do try get it right, but they do slip through. Wowhead or Jame’s internet guide will help in the case of an error.
Supplementary Addons
DoubleWide – A simple but helpful addon, it makes the quest log twice as wide and much easier to read.
This section is still just new (I know about QuestHelper but LightHeaded performs the same function), so suggestions for improvement are welcome.

Known Issues
If you have a problem, be sure to check the leveling addon FAQ page before asking a question – it only takes a minute, and the answer might be easily found there! If you still have a problem, feel free to post a comment
anywhere on the leveling guide pages and we will respond as soon as possible.
Borean Tundra
- Hellscream’s Vigil: This quest will not auto-complete for some people, due to there being a separate quest by the same name for those who did the Thrall questline in Nagrand.
- The Lost Spirits: The use item button doesn’t show up for “The Lost Spirits” quest (It’s the “Core of Malice”). This is due to the item not being in the inventory at the start of the quest.
- Drake Hunt: Again not a bug per-se, the second time you grab it (as a daily) is included as a note instead of a accept/complete/turn-in objective set because Tour Guide otherwise detects the quest as complete (due to it sharing the same name as the
non-daily version) despite quest ID, which is supposed to resolve these sorts of issues.
Grizzly Hills
- Latent Power: One of the stone’s coordinates won’t show up as it wasn’t entered correctly (the northwestern one). It can be found at (71.10,39.00). Also, the use item button is missing. These issues will be corrected in the next upload.

If you want to help converting a section of the guide in TourGuide format, please check the following links:
Check the front page please,Check the front page please, it has update information. There isn’t a new version of our guides but you can run the outdated version just fine as long as you update TourGuide and TomTom. See the post on the front page for details.
If you are talking about some specific update to Grizzly Hills, there isn’t one and I don’t think there is even one in progress right now. Is there something specific that needs to be updated?
Also, more question marks does not make your post get answered faster, and annoys mods >_<
???? 3.1.1 version not uploaded yet??is there a version for horde that has Grizzly hills for 3.1.1 yet???? i cant level without this thing!! thanks!
Alliance DragonblightHi, compliments for all the good work, when will the alliance dragonblight part come out?
when i downloaded the lvlwhen i downloaded the lvl guide for the horde a got this script
sow the last part is missing
plz help me
cant get it to load 🙁 I am getting this error message when wow loads, ive uninstalled and re downloaded 3 times same one every timetempt here it iS:
InterfaceaddonstourguidGuidList.lua:15:attempt to call global’LibStub\'(a nil value)
i would appreciate any help i have heard so much about this add.
As far as I know, it’sAs far as I know, it’s impossible for Tour Guide to check and see if you have a flight path – it can only know the moment you actually get one, not check what ones you already have.
And unfortunately, we pretty much have to assume someone has been following the guide all the way through, at least from Jame’s portion of the guide. So if that flight path was picked up previously in the guide, the instructions won’t be included again. However, if it hadn’t yet been picked up, the instructions *should* have been included. I know nothing about the Alliance side though, so I can’t really tell you much there.
reporthello all
just to report one thing. just loaded thousand needles guide and after first 2 steps it says i should fly to thalanaar but i dont have fp there. i didn’t level till now by the guide and i might be missing some steps from previous parts but if i remember corectly written guide says that i should run there. so maybe it would be possible for addon to track down weather you have fp or not, and if you don’t, tip turns into “run to” tip with appropriate coords. this isn’t much of an issue to me but for someone leveling for first time could be confusing.
anyway, thanks for great addon and all work you guys put into this.
Jame is off doing RL stuffJame is off doing RL stuff until Sunday. After that, I would imagine a new release would be on the way 🙂
Any news?Hi, any news about a new release? 😉
Try replacing those filesTry replacing those files with these ones and let me know if that helps.
Yeah it’s the 20-30 guide.Yeah it’s the 20-30 guide. The coordinates are totally wrong in each area.
What section are you using? What section are you using? I know section 20-30 on the Horde side has lots of issues like this, I will release an updated version of it shortly. It has nothing to do with the version, it’s just a lack of Zone tags and it causes the coordinates to malfunction.
Just wanted to mention thatJust wanted to mention that it may just be me, but the new 3.1.1 patch has broken the guide in combination with TomTom as it no longer maps areas correctly. It’s telling me to go to Durotar, Org, etc. and pointing the arrow to Hillsbrad Foothills =p
The only strict dependencyThe only strict dependency the WoW-Pro guide has is Tour Guide. So if you are getting that notice, it means you either don’t have Tour Guide installed or it’s not enabled. Try clicking the “Load out of date addons” button in the upper right corner of the addon selection screen.
I didI did download all of the addons listed. still says missing dependency
At the top of this page,At the top of this page, three addons are listed which are required in order to run the WoW-Pro guide. You need to download and enable all three to get the guide to work. The links to their most recent versions can be found at the top of this page.
missing dependencyI have downloaded and installed the alliance guide, loaded out of date addons and everything, but the “wow-pro Tour Guide Alliance” is showing as “Dependency Missing”. I deleted it and reinstalled it three times, and it is still showing as this. It is not showing in my addon list once in the game and checking the interface addon list either. So…what do I do, because this looks like a really useful addon and I want to install it for my room-mate to use on his account.
If you just downloaded theIf you just downloaded the most recent patch, you’ll need to check this again, because it will be unchecked and again the guide won’t be loaded. It really sounds like this is the problem, so I recommend checking one more time. Other then that, I have no idea what it could be, it really just sounds like the WoW-Pro guide specifically aren’t loading. Make sure they show up on the addon selection screen and that you have it enabled.
It doesnt display any guidesIt doesnt display any guides with prefix [Wow-pro].
Didn’t help :((
None?It doesn’t dispaly any guides, or it doesn’t display wow-pro guides?
At the character selection screen, click on Addons and then put the check in “Load out of date mods,” or whatever it says. Reply back if that doesn’t fix it.
James
Not working on 3.1.1 :(Everything worked fine until the new patch released today – 3.1.1
Now, TourGuide doesn’t display any of wow-pro guides (like Jame’s ) 🙁
What shall I do?
Update please? :<
For the quest un-checkingFor the quest un-checking problem, this will occur anytime WoW quits in a non-normal way, for example if it crashes or if you alt-F4.
Well, first problem seems fixedDownloaded the even more latest version of Tour Guide. Whatever problem was causing my origional trouble seems fixed. Now it just randomly un-remembers some quests being done that I’ve already completed. This is proving a much less serious problem as I can just click to say I did it already, but still a nuisance.
Thanks very much for the guide. Between music and your guide, leveling my alts has been much much less the chore than it usually is for me. Can’t thank you enough for all the time I’ve saved not twiddling my thumbs having no clue what to do next.
TourGuide ProblemsI have just recently uploaded Tour Guide 3.1 and when I finished Snowflake’s Guide to the Ghostlands on my alt I got the following error:
InterfaceAddOnsTourGuideParser.lua:88:attempt to call field’?\'(a nil value)
I can’t find the quest bar either…anyone know what this is?
I’ve just started using thisI’ve just started using this addon on my lvl 30 alliance char, and found an error in Ashenvale part (bug tracker seems to be down, so I report here): after taking FP in Felwood and flying to Forest Song, the guide tells you to return quest to Kayneth Stillwind — but I don’t have any quest from him
Check the front page, you’llCheck the front page, you’ll find your answers there. The addon still works.
New Patcha new patch has come out and your addon is out of date when will it be updated?
Specific 3.1 errorInterestingly enough, I am alliance and don’t have this issue. However, the wow-pro guides are the only guides available in TG when pre-3.1, all the guides (TG and wow-pro) were listed.
Additionally, when the Howling Fjord guide is completed, it send you to the level 1 wow-pro guide for dwarves (can’t recall the title, but it is the first one listed).
I am guessing that the Howling Fjord guide references the next guide (Dragonblight), which is not in my guide package, and when found missing, defaults to “Guide #1”.
ILUI love your guide addon, dude. I managed to level a warrior from 11-15 in 2 hours thanks to you. That normally, for me, would have taken around 3 hours. I had to make an account specifically to thank you for your hard work, and to say that you have some of the smartest ideas ever.(On Ruby Wings exploit, for example :D)
Slightly more specific 3.1 errorI’ve already downloaded the lastest versions of TomTom, Tour Guide and Lightheaded for 3.1 to use with the awesome Horde Tour Guide. Unfortunately any time I try to change guides, my character gets booted from the server, sometimes unable to log back on without getting summarily booted again. Through random luck I’ve somehow managed to get the correct guide up, and it’s working fine, but tried switching guide’s on an alt and the same problem occured. Do you think this might be better directed at the Tour Guide folks? I’ve told you first as the problem seems to go away for a character if I turn off the Horde Leveling Guide, allowing me to log back on the character without being re-disconnected from the server. Havn’t checked for alliance, as I have no characters on the dark side.
Its not Jame’s Addon. ItsIts not Jame’s Addon. Its TourGuide that needs updated. There were a few changes to how a character is located in terms of local, along with changes to how quests and a few other things are handled. We basically have to wait until TomTom, Cartographer, and TourGuide get updated.
all i want in life is to be happy
same here cant get any of itsame here cant get any of it to show up
Problem with new Patch : 3.1hey every1, love your guides Jame 🙂
the new patch just came out recently and have found a problem with the guide. I’ve loaded all of my addons and clicked the “load out of date addons” and they are all working fine except for the “wow – pro” leveling guide. When i log in, the bar that shows the line of text (the next step in the guide) is not showing at all.
however i then went into the “interface” and clicked on “addons” and the guides are actually there. so it is only the bar that is not showing and that is makes it impossible to use the guide.
I was just wondering if you new about the problem because this might apply to every1.
keep up the greet work 🙂
Stopped working since 3.1Stopped working since 3.1 came out, so I’m assuming it needs an update for it to work again?
Completed items not staying completedThis is in reference to the Horde guide, and I’m thinking it isn’t the latest version either as I downloaded it on 5 APR and I see a new one was put up on 7 APR. That said…
I’ve noticed in the Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra guides that every time I log into the game, some of the items I’ve already completed in that zone are now unchecked. I wish I had taken screenshots, but I didn’t so I can’t say exactly which quests it is. I’ll try the 7 APR version and see if the situation persists.
The level ranges are justThe level ranges are just the minimum expected level you should be for that guide. If you are a little above that, it’s fine – just keep following the guide unless it asks you to do gray quests or kill gray mobs.
Just a quick question.Hiya, just a quick question.
First off, I seriously love your guide. I’ve been levelling noticeably faster since I’ve started using it, and have had no problems whatsoever, save for the addon being unable to find a zone during the Death Knight starter area.
The problem I have is more to do with understanding the guide. For example, at the moment I’m doing the Western Plaguelands guide, which is described as levels 58-58. What does this mean? At this rate I’ll hit 59 from finishing this part, when I should apparently do that after completing the next part, which is Eastern Plaguelands. What should I do?
It sounds to me like youIt sounds to me like you might be running one of the non-WoW-Pro guides. Basically, Lightheaded automatically supplies the coordinates for quest turn-ins and accepts, but not for complete steps. Most of our guide’s steps should have those coordinates supplied. Can you tell me exactly what zone/level/faction you are playing?
Having same issue..But, it seems ONLY when it’s on a “complete quest” objective does the TomTom arrow go away. When it’s on a “Accept Quest” or “Turn In Quest” objective the TomTom arrow returns.
It’s easy to reproduce for me, i just click the objectives complete until the next one is a Turn In Quest or Accept Quest, and the arrow pops up. If i click the objectives until the next one is complete quest; then the arrow goes away.
Ah….I wasn’t aware of that. I’ll keep it mind as I go forward.
James
KooooolAnd welcome back m8 🙂
Big updates to come, real soon!
For addon editors: The onlyFor addon editors: The only way to do this is to remove the quest ID when directing the player to the quest turnin/accept. I think I recall Jame saying this was okay to do in these cases. Just *make sure* you supply accurate coordinates if you remove the quest ID.
YupBeceause in some questlines the NPC moves to a different location, the same questgiver will be noticed as having mutiple possible locations on wowhead.
This does not have to do with someone else selectibng a part in the quest, but just wowhead getting messed up a lill bit.
At the moment you sometimes get multiple locations, a while back it would only show 1 of the locations and you would never find him again.
People noticing this and updating the quest files will try and work the correct NPC location for the different steps into the guide.
Double-Edged SwordThe good thing about this add-on is that it gets it’s coordinates from WoWHead.com.
The bad thing about this add-on is that it gets it’s coordinates from WoWHead.com.
This is especially noticeable in Northrend, but I’m sure it’s prevalent elsewhere. As an example, Thessarian (a major Death Knight character) is seen in MULTIPLE locations in Borean Tundra. If you have one quest and anyone stumbles further ahead and clicks on him where he is in a further quest, that location now shows up for anyone on that quest. I’ve noticed in some of the guides that the people working on that guide will tell you “he’s at the southern dot, not the northern dot” on more than one occasion. I’m trying to notice those things as I’m going through the Northrend guides.
As I said, it’s a double-edged sword. If someone can explain this better than I have, please do.
James
Double Co-ordinateRed Linen Goods has two co-ordinates instead of one.
Jame has only written hisJame has only written his guides up to the end of Grizzly Hills. His other guides are on hold at the moment until he feels the addon is high quality. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the default TourGuide has guides for anything after 72, at least on the Horde side, so that doesn’t help either.
I’ve been doing this forI’ve been doing this for awhile, but I’ve noticed, on TourGuide where’s the 77-80 guide? Seems it just stops at 77 lol. I could just read the other 70-80 guide but I’m too lazy 🙂 Any hints on where to download the newly updated one or something? :O
I checked it too, soundsI checked it too, sounds like he has an old version.
