Introduction

This is an addon for ingame guides of every sort, including the famous guides by Jame: Alliance/Horde

Please be considerate because this addon has not been made by a professional! If you find errors please make a screenshot and send it to me (Jahwo) with a description of what you did when the error occurred.

If you find mistakes in the guides or wrong/missing coordinates please write a comment or send me a PM.

Currently Included

Alliance:

  • Maw’s Human Leveling Guide (1-12)

Horde:

  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Dragonblight (74-75)
  • Jame’s Leveling Guide Grizzly Hills (75-77)
  • Zernij’s Durotar Leveling Guide 1-12

More guides will follow soon.

Installation

  1. Download the latest version of the Addon: WoW-Pro Addon (v0643)
  2. Unzip the package
  3. Copy the folder WoWPro to your Addons folder. (\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons)

How to use it

  • Before you start with the guides you should bind a key to the “Next Step” function. You can do that by going into the Key Bindings-Menu (press ESC –> Key Bindings) and scroll down to the bottom. There you should find a Option called “JamesAddon Next Step“. Bind a key to it you can easily reach, because you’ll use it a lot.
  • To open a guide click on the button. The WoW-Interface menu will open. There you can choose a guide from the categories “Alliance“, “Horde“, “Both” and “Other
  • In the options menu you can also change the transparency of the frame. Just drag the Transparency-slider to the right for more transparency.
  • If you want to go to an other step you can enter the step-number in the edit box at the bottom and press enter.
  • Many steps have a coordinate you have to go to. The arrow at the topleft circle shows you where to go. If it shows to the top and becomes golden you’re on the right way.
  • Additionally you can see the distance to the actual target in the progressbar next to the arrow.
If you reached the coordinate the arrow will change to this:
  • You can toggle the window wit the slash-commands /jamesaddon or /ja
  • You can change the height by dragging the top or bottom of the textarea. The area where you can drag will change red if you move your mouse over it, like that:

Now you’re ready to go! Choose your guide and start leveling.

Include new Guides

If you downloaded a single guide from the list below, or got it from wherever else you should have a .lua file.

Put this file into the Guides-folder in the Addon-folder. The full path is:

World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\WoWPro\Guides

Now you have to register that guide in the “table of contents“. Just open the “Guides.xml” file with a text-editor of your choice.
There you have to add a line between the < Ui > and < /Ui > tags:

<script file="theguide.lua"/>

Where theguide.lua is the filename of the guide you want to add.

Single guides

more to come…

I would like to recommendI would like to recommend every one get IZArc. It’s an archive program the can read and extract rar, zip, 7zip and pretty much every other type of archive that is currently in use.

I think I’ll upload it as aI think I’ll upload it as a .zip for future updates. I just thought .rar is known well enough by now 😉 and I think it doesn’t matter if its 48kb or 49kb 🙂

???The download comes up as an Adobe Acrobat file?

Do a google search for WinRAR if you have Windows machine. That’s what you need to open the file with. It’s similar to WinZIP, but different enough that WinZIP doesn’t work. If you’re on a Mac, you’ll have to google .rar files for Mac’s.

We’ll keep on updating themWe’ll keep on updating them regularly until they reach perfection.

All you’ll have to do is download the latest version and put it in your wow folder, just like every other addon.

great so farI created a human and a troll to try the guides and the add-on out. They’re very well done and are working very well. I wanted to know if your going to somehow automatically update things in the future or if I’m going to have to re-download everything once it’s been updated. I can’t wait until the add-on is complete.

Your friend probably was talking about the other addon format we use, TourGuide. More levels are covered for this one.

Instructions on how to install it can be found here:

    https://www.wow-pro.com/leveling_guides/james_leveling_guide_tourguide_style

Read the whole “Installation” paragraph and you should have no problem.

    X or YCoordinates issue:

X or Y coordinates between 0.0001 and 0.0999 will not show up properly. They either have a blank spot or will display a decimal with the last 2 digits only.

This works with the soThis works with the so called Subzone names, like Booty Bay or Kargath. The main cities aredivided in subzones too (e.g. The Canals in Stromwind), and this condition is strictly speaking completed if the Text over the Minimap changes to the on you’ve given in the regZone Tag.

  • img
    Jan 11, 2009 @ 15:39 pm

Does this work with names asDoes this work with names as Booty Bay or Kargath and such?
When flying, I was thinking, you dont wanna jump to the next step untill you’ve actually reached the city.

    Jan 11, 2009 @ 11:48 am

And another newAnd another new condition.

How do I put Maw’s guide inHow do I put Maw’s guide in my interface as a .lua file? Whenever I click the link it simply gives me the text and no file, and I don’t have a program that will let me save it as a .lua file.

It’s now possible to add aIt’s now possible to add a number after the questname like this:

    [code]

    [/code]

This condition will be completed after the first objective of the quest has been finished. Example:

    [code]

    [/code]
(The quest in the dwarven starting-area where you have to kill troggs)
will be finished after killing 6 Burly Rockjaw Troggs forthe quest.

    Jan 10, 2009 @ 14:36 pm

New condition added: ThisNew condition added:
    [code]

    [/code]
This one is finished after all objectives for the quest are completed. Use this one instead of regKill, if you want the user to kill xx mobs until a quest is finished.

  • img
    Jan 10, 2009 @ 0:39 am

sorry but I have to see itsorry but I have to see it in code tags, because like this neither of those versions would work. There are no quotation marks andno coordinates. That would give errors in any case 😉

  • img
    Jan 10, 2009 @ 0:35 am

lolI thought I did. Still it all showed up without the code tag working so still dont know what is wrong with why I cant get it to work in my guide. Like I said

    {[T]Turn in [quest][58] Cursed Talismans[/quest]|n[G]Get the follow up [quest][60] Warlord of the Bleeding Hollow[/quest].|n[T]Turn in [quest][60] Zeth’Gor Must Burn![/quest]},

    Doesnt work but

    {[T]Turn in [quest]Cursed Talismans[/quest]|n[G]Get the follow up [quest]Warlord of the Bleeding Hollow[/quest].|n[T]Turn in [quest]Zeth’Gor Must Burn![/quest]},

does and I dont know why. I just have been leaving out the level of the quest in my guide 🙂

  • img
    Jan 10, 2009 @ 0:24 am

please close the [code]-tagplease close the [code]-tag 😉

  • img
    Jan 10, 2009 @ 0:22 am

Oddthat is odd cause I couldn’t get it to work as long as I had them in there

    for instance

    [size=14][code]{[T]Turn in [quest][58] Cursed Talismans[/quest]|n[G]Get the follow up [quest][60] Warlord of the Bleeding Hollow[/quest].|n[T]Turn in [quest][60] Zeth’Gor Must Burn![/quest][/code][/size]

Will not run but if I take out the brackets with the levels it will

  • img

in the normal text thisin the normal text this shouldn’t cause problems. In the condition registering you have to leave them away!

have a quick questionOn the [url=https://www.wow-pro.com/wiki/wowpro_addon_how_contribute]wiki page[/url] I have noticed that hosho originally left in the brackets around the quest level in his guide. I noticed that when I left them in as I was working my guide it caused errors until I removed them. Is this just something wrong in my code or is it something I should look into clearing up on the page?

    Crap!!!I didn’t see the [objective][/objective] tags….. 🙁

I’ve been using the [npc][/npc] tag for mobs that you have to attack….LOL

    I can fix that though.

Should work now justShould work now 🙂 just redownload the addon

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:50 pm

I have seen in several otherI have seen in several other addons them using that functionality but I agree with the guide right there in front of you it would be kind of redundant.

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:36 pm

Well there isn’t even eallyWell there isn’t even eally anything that would make sense putting under the arrow, except maybe the coords itself. I don’t think it makes much sense to write the whole step there 😉

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:31 pm

and if someone ever wonderedand if someone ever wondered if it’s possible to make the tomtom arrow NOT disappear 10 yards away of the target (I did! 😉 ), you can chage it if you type in your chat:
    [code]/script TomTom.profile.persistence.cleardistance=3
    [/code]
now it will point to the target until you’re only 3 yards away ;D
If the UI gets reloaded this will change back to 10

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:27 pm

Arrow comes up perfectlyok it brings the TomTom arrow up perfectly but don’t have someone in the lvl range to test out if it points right (though I am sure it does) only thing that seems to be missing is the text as to what it is pointing to but I am sure that is because it is just reading our coords preset into the code and (on mine at least) they are not named to give a descriptor.

Thanks 🙂 I really think that small change will make a huge difference 🙂

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:25 pm

If you want you can add itIf you want you can add it yourself, by editing the WoWpro.lua and add this line:
    [code]if TomTom then TomTom:AddZWaypoint(GetCurrentMapContinent(), GetCurrentMapZone(),
    (WP_currentX*100), (WP_currentY*100), “”, false) end[/code]

    after those two lines:

    [code]WP_currentX = WP_currentGuide.guide[WP_currentStep][2]
    WP_currentY = WP_currentGuide.guide[WP_currentStep][3][/code]

    just search for them

keep in mind that the waypoints only go away after you reached them or you delete them by hand. This snippet just adds a new coordinate on going to a new step.

it (hopefully ) wouldn’tit (hopefully :P) wouldn’t change anything about the guide .luas, although it would give new possible features, like multiple coords per step

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 20:00 pm

That would be awesome Jahwo. That would be awesome Jahwo. I have to admit I’m a huge fan of the TomTom arrow 🙂

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 19:58 pm

I think that would make aI think that would make a huge difference in the addon Jahwo. I find the little one a bit hard to follow myself, but how will that affect the coord notation in the .lua file?

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 19:55 pm

I’m thinking about replacingI’m thinking about replacing the arrow with the TomTom addon, or at least give the possibility to do that, because it would make many things easier… Also my arrow isn’t even working correctly 😀 maybe someone noticed it, it does not point directly to the target it some cases, but sends you in an awkward curve.. and I don’t have the slightesd idea why this could be.

  • img
    Jan 9, 2009 @ 19:50 pm

I’ve tried it out myself andI’ve tried it out myself and your code is correct, but I’ve made a pretty stupid mistake, so that, if there are more than one of the same conditions in a step, only the first one will be registered =/. I wonder why this did not occur during my testing phase, because I’m pretty sure I tested it.. whatever 😀
I hope to fix it in an hour or so…

Oh and if you wan to post code, just use the [ code][/code] tags.

    Jan 9, 2009 @ 17:10 pm

ahh betaLol that is the thing with any beta code it always gets tweaked and played with and you question whether you released it too early 🙂 Good rule of thumb is if it is well accepted just needs some adjustment and tweaking then you have released good code. 🙂 Trust me this is good code 🙂

    Hello

    I’m having problemsHello 🙂

I’m having problems adding multiple conditions to a guide step and I was wondering if you could help me or explain what I’m doing wrong. 🙂

This is the step: {“!MHead south. |n!KKill any troggs you find there. |nStay here until you get 6 [objective]Rockjaw Troggs[/color], 6 [objective]Burly Rockjaw Troggs[/color] ‘”‘.”,0.303,0.752},

(Note: I’ve added the (‘) to the () because otherwise the conditions wouldn’t show up. :?)

The problem is that when I kill 6 Rockjaw Troggs, the guide automatically advances to the next step, regardless of how many Burly Rockjaw Troggs I’ve killed. It will only jump to the next step when I’ve killed 6 Rockjaw Troggs. When I kill the 6 Burly Rockjaw Troggs first, nothing happens. I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong, but nothing I try seems to work. 🙁

    Kind Regards,

    Yokaij

    WorldMap trackingHi

I’m a user of the Questhelper AddOn, and have been testing yourse lately. I must say, it’s WAY better then Questhelper.
Only think I’m missing is the icons on the world map telling you exactly where the objective is, as there can be buildings blocking youre way when following the arrow.

    Again, Love the AddOn

I think he means that whenI think he means that when he tries to open the file, because it’s a .rar file as opposed to a .zip.
