Thrusting the Spear with the Sons of Hodir
The Sons of Hodir are basically the Netherwing of Wrath.
They’ve got mounts, armour, weapons and the best PvE shoulder enchantments (for non-scribes).
This guide will take you through the quest chains and give you the fastest circuits for dailies, and a few other tips.
This guide assumes you have an epic flyer, but it really doesn’t matter if you don’t. When I say ‘Fly back to Thorim’ and you’re at, say, Dun Niffelem, you may wish to fly to the Grom’marsh Crash site, and then fly from there. Your choice.
Also, this quest chain (and a few of the dailies) will also be included in Jame’s Storm Peaks guide (when it comes) so if you decide to wait for that for the rest of the zone, doing this will give you a (slight) reduction in speed in parts, and you’ll have to go through and tick what you’ve done already.
Oh, and try not to think too hard about the quest names.

K3
1.Fly to K3. Get They Took Our Men from Gretchen Fizzlespark
in the inn.
If you lack a flying mount, talk to “Honest” Max, next to the flight master.
2. Fly to Sifreldar Village at 41,70. Kill the Storm Maidens for keys, and free 5 goblins from cages.
NOTE: Keep your Relics of Ulduar
Go back to K3 and turn in at Gretchen Fizzlespark.
3. Get the follow-up, Leave No Goblin Behind.
Vrykul Mine
Fly to 42,70. Enter the tunnel. Walk forward a bit then look on your left. Turn in at Lok’lira the Crone.
1. Get The Crone’s Bargain.
Go up the stairs to the east then take a right. Kill Overseer Syra and loot the runes. Head back to Lok’lira the way you came and turn in.
2. Take the follow-up, Mildred the Cruel.
Combat animations on this rock, by the way.
Go up the stairs. Take a right, then a left, then another left and one more left.
Turn in at Mildred the Cruel.
3. Get the follow-up, Discipline.
Walk through the side tunnels, looking for Exhausted Vrykul. Use the rod on them. They’ll either work or attack you. Once you’re done, head back to Mildred the Cruel.
4. Get Examples to be Made.
Go directly east, then turn right and kill Garhal. Your ‘sisters’ will help you kill the other captives (who will become friendly when Garhal dies).
5. Get A Certain Prisoner.
Head back down the stairs and west to Lok’lira to turn in.
6. Get A Change of Scenery.
Brunnhildar Village
Head all the way east through the tunnels to Brunnhildar Village. Lok’lira will be waiting immediately to your right. Turn in.
1. Get Is That Your Goblin?
NOTE: This place is a fully functioning town, with an inn, repairs, vendors etc.
Go a short way to the east and challenge Agnetta Tyrsdottar (she’s standing next to the goblin). Straight forward fight. I’d love it if the ‘bosses’ of non-group quests were just slightly tougher than average. Turn back in at Lok’lira.
1. Get The Hyldsmeet. Talk to Lok’lira. Turn in. World saving. Cool.
2. Get Taking on all Challengers.
Go around the village and challenge and kill 6 Victorious Challengers. They’re pushovers.
Admire the bears, and get a nice sense of forboding (not necessary for quest completion). Try mounting. Seems like riding a toy to me, although that could just be because I’m used to playing a Tauren.
Turn in at Lok’lira (47,49).
3. Get You’ll Need a Bear.
Turn in at Brijana at 53,66.
4. Get Going Bearback.
Use Ability 2 at the start and end (or if you’re finshed). The bear steers for you. If you’re being chased, shoot slightly in front of yourself.
Turn in at Brijana.
5. Get Cold Hearted.
Fly to 64,59.
Fly up to a drake, before you mount, read this:
Keep moving. Target the prisoner you want to free, and strafe + x down, then use Ability 1. Once you have them (the quest tracker doesn’t show anything) fly low near the arch at the west side of Dun Niffelem, and the drake will autopilot back. Repeat three times.
If your drake gets low on health, strafe + space to rise (although this doesn’t heal your health) and go make a cup of tea while your health regenerates.
On the flight home, check your claws out 😛
Turn in at Brijana at 53,66.
6. Get Deemed Worthy.
Turn in to Astrid Bjornrittar in the house at 50,72.
7. Get Making a Harness. Your disguise will go when you leave the village and reappear on your return.
Yeti are in the hills around 47,73.
Go back to 50,72 and turn in.
8. Get The Last of Her Kind.
9. Get The Slithering Darkness.
Note that the second quest is not actually required to advance with the quest chain, but you’ll be killing enough mobs to complete it anyway as you go.
Go to the Hibernal Cave (56,63) and kill Jormungar as you go. Make sure to complete The Slithering Darkness before you mount up on the large bear at the end of the cave (reachable from either way), as it carries you back to the village.
Turn both in back at Astrid (you’ll be on her doorstep).
10. Get The Warm Up.
Head towards the large yeti at 50.70,67.50. Mount up on your bear, and /growl.
Read this before starting combat:
At the start of the fight, use Ability 6 to stun him. It is basically a Warrior’s Charge.
Spam 4. Whenever 6 comes off cooldown, hit 5 (to knockback) then 6.
Eventually he’ll run out of space to be knockedback into, but by then you’ll have him.
Turn in at Astrid at 50,72.
11. Get Into The Pit.
Enter the pit and bear up. Similar tactics as the last time. If you get knockbacked, run towards who ever did it to avoid being charged.
Head back to Astrid at 50,72 and turn in.
12. Get Prepare For Glory.
Turn in at Lok’lira at 47.50,69.
13. Get Lok’lira’s Parting Gift.
Turn in at Gretta the Arbiter at 51,65.60 (Just past the Proto-drakes. Feel free to get more foreboding.)
14. Get The Drakkensryd.
You’ll be flown to the Temple of Storms. Harpoon other drake riders, kill them and then take their mount. When you’re almost done, grab a drake circling high, aim at one of the lamp things on the Temple’s pillars and turn in at Thorim.
Thorim and the Temple of Storms
1. Get Sibling Rivalry.
Chat with Thorim.
Turn in.
2. Get Mending Fences.
Fly to 61,60. Get a granite boulder. Hurl it at a giant and kill it. Repeat 5 times.
3. When one drops Slag Covered Metal, get The Refiner’s Fire.
When you’ve killed the 5 giants, pick up another boulder and fly to 77,63.
Use the boulder on Fjorn, then kill him.
Turn in The Refiner’s Fire at the anvil (quickly!).
4. Get A Spark of Hope.
Fly back to Thorim at 33,56.
Turn them both in.
‘Grats on Neutral Sons of Hodir 🙂
5. Get Forging An Alliance.
Dun Niffelem
Fly to King Jokkum in Dun Niffelem (65,60).
1. Chat with him, and take his quest, You Can’t Miss Him (you can’t turn in. Confusing, I know).
Head to Lillehoff (Hodir quartmaster, just behind the king). Turn in what relics you may have.
Fly to Fjorn’s Anvil (75,63).
Turn in at Njormeld.
2. Get Battling the Elements.
Mount Snorri (I’m sorry, it’s the quest names…).
Head to the piles of snow on the ground and use ability one.
Target a Seething Revenant, make sure you’re in LoS and use 2.
Turn in at Njormeld when you’re done.
3. Get the quest complete for Forging an Alliance.
Fly to 63,63 (Njormeld is near the anvil) and turn in there.
4. Get A New Beginning.
5. Get Hot and Cold from the anvil.
6. Fly to King Jokkum (65,60) and get In Memoriam.
NOTE: Look for Everfrost Chips on the ground. 1=350 rep.
7. Go east to the frozen lake and kill Brittle Revenants until you have 5 Essence of Ice.
8. Go to 75,65. Use the Essences on the scraps on the ground, then collect. Fly north to 71,50. Look around the (Narnia-esque) giants and dwarves for little grey cells fragments. Easy to spot, they’re all over the place.
Temple of Storms Again
Fly to Thorim at 33,58. Turn in.
1. Get Veranus. Fly to the area near 53,35. The nests you will want to look at will have lots of little dragons around them. Some nests will have non-interactable ‘scenery eggs’. Some eggs are also found at 41,65.
Fly to Thorim at 33,58. Turn in.
2. Get Territorial Trespass
Fly to the nest at 37,56.
Use the egg then mount up and fly back a bit. You can either just wait for the quest update, or wait and watch Thorim tame the drake. I can’t tell you what it looks like, since I left when I got the quest reward, and just heard the shout.
Fly back to 33,57 and turn in.
3. Get Krolmir, Hammer of Storms.
Back to Dun Niffelem
Fly to 63,63 and turn in Hot and Cold.
Head to King Jokkum at 65,61 and turn in In Memoriam. You will now be friendly if you have turned in at least one lot of relics.
1. Get A Monument to the Fallen.
2. Get Jormuttar Is Soo Fat…. Your mum jokes. Wow, this just gets more and more mature.
Go to Njormeld at 63,63 and turn in A Monument to the Fallen.
3. Get Forging A Head. (Non gutter-humour. Extraordinary)
Head east to the frozen lake. Find a giant and mine with the Diamond-Tipped Pick.
You will either get two eyes, or three dwarves will appear, some of which may drop eyes.
When you’re done, fly to Njormeld at 63,63 and turn in.
4. Get Mounting Hodir’s Helm. Hohoho…
5. Go slightly SE and get Blowing Hodir’s Horn. My eyes… My sweet, innocent eyes…
Head to the sparkly tip of the ice spike at 64.20,59.20.
Read from the tablet.
Head back to 63,63 and turn in at Njormeld.
Fly back to the helm at 64,59.
46. Get Polishing the Helm. Do children play this game?
6. Fly to the Hibernal Cavern at 56,64.
Use your Everfrost Razor on the first dead bear you see.
Keep doing this until you get a flank. Head to the back of the cave, while gathering Viscous Oil.
Once at the crater, use the bear flank and kill Jormuttar.
When you’re done, head out, fly to the helm at 64,60 and turn in.
Then, fly to Jokkum at 65,60 and turn in Jormuttar is Soo Fat…
Talk to Jokkum about Krolmir.
The King will carry you to Thunderfall. Turn in at Thorim.
NOTE: At this point, it could be argued the chain ends. However, if you want to continue with it, get The Terrace of the Makers and read on. You’ll get 500 more Hodir rep and a couple of blues. I’d continue on, the end is pretty good.
If you don’t want to, skip down to step 48.
The Terrace of the Makers
Go to 56,51 and turn in at Thorim. Get The Earthen Oath and Loken’s Lackeys.
Summon your Earthen crew and go on a rampage to these coords: 56,43 for Eisenfaust. 48,45 for Halefnir. 44,37 for Duronn.
When you’re done with both quests, head back to Thorim at 56,51. Turn both quests in and get The Reckoning. Head to the temple at 36,32. Awesomeness. Also, the bit Loken says about the mine, well, someone clever speculates on Wowhead that Loken (master of shapeshifting in Norse mythology) was Lok’lira. Makes sense.
Turn back in at 66,60 and get Whatever it Takes!. Complete that on your next trip into HoL.
Finishing off…
9. Kill 5 Niffelem Forefathers and 5 Restless Frostborn. After each kill, use the horn on them.
Fly back to Dun Niffelem and turn in.
Congratulations, it’s daily circuit time. (Or, just ignore all this and buy their love with relics of Ulduar.)
Daily Circuits:
Friendly:
1. Pick up Blowing Hot and Cold.
2. Pick up Polishing the Helm.
3. Pick up Blowing Hodir’s Horn.
Head east to Frostfield Lake. Kill elementals until you get 5 Essence of Ice.
Fly South-West to the scraps at 77,64. Use the Essences, loot the scraps. Be quick, if someone else is around, or they might be able to loot it before you.
Fly North to Thunderfall. Kill 5 giants and 5 dwarves and use the horn on their corpses.
Fly to the Hibernal Cave (56,63) and kill oils for the quest.
Head back to Dun Niff (as the cool kids call it) and turn in.
Other Things to do:
- Look for Everfrost Chips. Comb the ground, especially near cliffs for them.
Farm relics. Remember that mine with the Vrykul in that we were in at the start? Try there.
Honoured:
At Honoured you’ll get the quest Raising Hodir’s Spear. Pretty simple, head to the Valley of Ancient Winters and kill mammoth, and head to the Hibernal Cave, go to the back and get your Everfrost.
After doing this, the quest Thrusting Hodir’s Spear is now available. Whoever created this quest chain is worse than Linnaeus…
Also, the quest Spy Hunter is now available. Here’s a new daily circuit:
1. Pick up Blowing Hot and Cold.
2. Pick up Polishing the Helm.
3. Pick up Blowing Hodir’s Horn.
4. Pick up Thrusting Hodir’s Spear.
5. Pick up Spy Hunter.
Head out in the valley and use the tooth near the wolf corpse. Don’t bother mounting, as the wolf runs at your speed, and for a set time.
Keep your eye on the sky for a protodrake. When you spear one, start off by using dodge, then the big stab, then grip. This can be hard with latency, but time your dodge so it goes off just before he hits you. Keep gripping, and feel free to occasionally small stab. The big stab resets your dodge timer, so only use it straight after a dodge. With practice, this becomes a doddle. Now, head back and turn in.
Head back to Dun Niffelem and turn in.
Revered:
Great, you’re… Oh, half way there. Gee, isn’t that depressing. You’ve been questing here for a few weeks, and you’re only half way there. /cut
You’ve now got Feeding Arngrim, a quick and easy quest you can do while you’re doing Spy Hunter (a slow and annoying quest).
Here’s your new circuit (if you choose to accept it):
1. Pick up Blowing Hot and Cold.
2. Pick up Polishing the Helm.
3. Pick up Blowing Hodir’s Horn.
4. Pick up Thrusting Hodir’s Spear.
5. Pick up Spy Hunter.
6. Pick up Feeding Arngrim
Head out in the valley and use the tooth near the wolf corpse. Don’t bother mounting, as the wolf runs at your speed, and for a set time.
While your wolf runs around chasing its tail, use the tooth on a Jormungar, then try and kill it. When you hit around 20%, Arngrim comes and eats it. Rinse and repeat. You’ll be done around the same time you’re done with Spy Hunter.
And there you go. You’re exalted. Go pick up your super mammoth (three seats, no vendors) for half the price of a tundra. Oh, and your shoulder enchants. Yeah, if you’re a scribe, you just wasted your time. No point coming to do this, you get better shoulder enchants 😛
Grats on the grind, and enjoy your phat loot and daily gold!
TourGuide AddonHey!
I downloaded the TourGuide version, it shows up on the Character login Addon menu, but not the in game TourGuide guide list. That’s a weird sentence. lol. Not sure why it shows up on one and not the other, but thought I’d let you know. 🙂
Version from wow-pro.comDownloaded the version currently hosted by wow-pro from the needed guides wiki (Addon Completed link, for this guide). I can’t find it anywhere in the TourGuide Guides listing. Is the URL above more up to date?
Halp?
Thanks.
EDIT: I was able to get it to work by hacking it into the wow-pro addon. There are some issues tho. The quest pick-up and drop-off are linked in such a way that it wants you to turn in the quest as soon as you pick it up (it doesn’t tell you to go do anything). I might play with the TourGuide config and see if I can figure it out well enough to tweak it, if no one else is working on it.
Didn’t load?Hi!
I tried to use the TG format of this and it didn’t load up. I’m playing on Alliance side if that matters. Installed it just like I do Jame’s guides. Is this correct or do I need to move it somewhere else? Just wondering, thought I’d give it a quick playtest as I’m doing the dailies on my DK anyway. 🙂 Thanks for the another great guide!
Great guide!Yes, the mounts and the shoulder enchants have the widest appeal.
But I like the Spaulders of the Giant Lords for my pre-Naxx gear on the Ret half of my schizophrenic paladin, and only revered is required! Woo Hoo. These are great DPS shoulders.
And JC’s would be interested in the recipe for Smooth Autumn’s Glow at exalted, too.
So, I think the Sons of Hodir exalted status has excellent rewards and is well worth the grind.
Also, a scribe may also be a JC and may be a DPS and may collect mounts and may like to add an achievement, so they may not have wasted their time after all.
Great guide, and I love the ‘asides’. I, too, was looking for the rating next to the names of these dailies.
Paleolf
Haha, I was thinking aboutHaha, I was thinking about commenting the same thing and thought it was unusual for Brune to have that many typos. I thought it could MIGHT have been some awkward joke i didn’t get so I didn’t want to embarrass myself by commenting it 😛
I was on a DSi in mcdonalds.I was on a DSi in mcdonalds. The on screen keyboard is tiny! >.<
Sounds like a planSounds good.
I’m almost done testing the Icecrown dailies unlocking guide (as attument was indeed too ambiguous.)
*eyes weird typing errors**eyes weird typing errors* Are you using a different keyboard? 😛
Agreed, it should be part ofAgreed, it should be part of our WoW-Pro addon, that’s what I’m doing with my Midsummer guide as well.
Also, fixed your double fail Brune 😉
oh, and just a pedanticoh, and just a pedantic little thing, but to me an attunement is something you have (had) to do to enter a raid instance, whereas soh is mor of a reputation. i supposeyou are getting attunedto thefaction, that doesn’t really iclude dailies, so i think rep guide would be a better ame 🙂
my suggestin would be to go my suggestin would be to go to the page where the levelling tg guides are, and post your guide and get it added to the list for review, and iclusion in a later addition, after a little testing and polish.
SoH TG attunement guideThe Sons of Hodir TourGuide Attunement guide is finished. I’ve checked every till the end and tried to place helpful comments where needed.
Check it out here
I’m not sure how to handle AddOn guides like these. Perhaps we can make an ‘daily / attunement / rep / achievement’ guide bundle for Horde and Alliance next to the leveling guide sets, or do we have a sort of thing already?
Enjoy!

Thanks for theThanks for the feedback.
Not sure what i did with mending fences, but with Territorial Trespass I accidentally mixed that up with the previous quest. Oops.
Yeah, the eggs can be found at a few locs, so I’ve added yours in 🙂
Good spot on the typo.
Glad you find it useful 🙂
Wrong Coords?Great guide but the coordinates for Mending Fences seems to be off. Shouldn’t it be 69, 60? Or thereabouts. Also, Coordinates for Veranus seem to be wrong. I found eggs at 41, 65 or thereabouts and there is a follow-up Territorial Trespass where you put the eggs on the Broodmothers nest. Additionally, a typo on step 6 of back to Dun Niffelem, “fly back to the horn ” should be fly back to the helm. Great guide though and I am garnering lots of $$ in addition to getting my rep up. Thanks for the work on this!
TG SoH updatedHaha, no biggy. I should have looked at the best guide site in the first place 😀 my bad
Hope you don’t mind putthing the TG guide up here. I think with some joined effort we can make a good quality guide.
I’ve tested up until accepting ‘Mending Fences’ and improved 2 steps so far. I think I’m gonna double check your quest order, because I don’t know if mine is any good at the end and I don’t feel like having to lvl my warrior 3 more lvls just to test my guide again 😀
Again, feedback is welcome 😀
What can I say? Guides inWhat can I say? Guides in progress page FTW 😛
Yeah, it sucks when that happens, but what you’ve done will still be useful, as Ji was thinking about TGing this herself, so as long as it works, there’s no problem 🙂
Well, I’m thinking ofWell, I’m thinking of starting up again.. (With WoW-PRO AND WoW, that is)
TG for Sons of Hodiromg :jawdrop:
I just hit 79.5 yesterday after finishing the GH guide (thanks Jame, YTM!) so I figured I’d tackle the rest doing the SoH quest chain… no TourGuide… (thanks Jame, you got us addicted 😉 lol)
so I figured I’d wowhead the bunch, put them in a TG format and whadayaknow… another guide is posted on wow-pro.
Mine is not the same – I’m not even sure at the end if the order is correct (being friendly or not and all) but I did borrow some quests after I saw it here.
I’ve put my guide here http://jfreak.nl.eu.org/wow-pro/SoH/Sons_of_Hodir_Tourguide.zip, but I have NOT tested any of it. I don’t even know if it loads yet.
Feedback is welcome 🙂
If my order is wrong, or you prefer the order of this guide – let me know. ATM my eyes hurt too much to go through both guides again 😀
For the Horde
zyzx – Orc DK – Alterac Mountain
zyzx – Orc Warrior – Wildhammer – Pink n Pwning
Diskspace – Troll Priest – Wildhammer (guide test char)
Okay. Shouldn’t take tooOkay. Shouldn’t take too long, and also it’ll make the maps look a little better.
Ooo, looking MUCH nicer TheOoo, looking MUCH nicer 🙂 The only other suggestion I would have is to start over numbering for each new little section, kinda like Jame does in his guides, but that’s very minor and really a preference thing.
Great job!
Thanks for the complimentsThanks for the compliments 🙂
I do agree that it looks better now with more line breaks.
An addon version of the quest chain would definitely be good, as it would make questing through the chain even more atmospheric.
That means that you can justThat means that you can just buy all the Relics of Ulduar from the auction house in order to power through the reputation. You can turn in 10 relics at Lillehoff in Dun Niffelem. It takes 1560 relics to go from Friendly 0/6000 to Exalted so hopefully you have a lot of money to spare.
/agree with all of the /agree with all of the above. Overall much needed guide and it looks pretty good, thanks very much Brune!
For structure, specifically, I recommend using lines to separate sections with [ hr ] and larger section titles. Also, as Maw mentioned, maps would be nice.
Perhaps we can even make an addon version of this guide? I think that would be fantastic, I have yet to get this rep with my druid main OR my pally alt, so I would definitely use it. I might look into coding this later if no one else does.
Shika! *hug attack*!Shika! *hug attack*!

Just skimmed through, other than that it’s looking great 🙂
Changed publishing date toChanged publishing date to today so that it now appears on front page 🙂
Great guide which I’ll give a rating 4 for now, but I’ll give it a 5 if you get some more structure to it so that it isn’t just a huge wall of text, and also adding some maps and helpful images as well as some better headlines and sub-headlines.
Okay, I’ve had a look, and aOkay, I’ve had a look, and a lot of the guide is done in various zones (for example, step 3 to about step 20 or so is in the same small area). So I’m going to try and get maps for each for steps, however instead of a number for each step, I’ll highlight a zone, then list on the side what steps take place there.
That sound feasible?
Hmm, good idea. Might startHmm, good idea. Might start work on that 🙂
EDIT: Got any idea why this isn’t appearing on the front page?
Would be awesome with mapsWould be awesome with maps 😉
This is the first time I’veThis is the first time I’ve ever posted a guide of this complexity, so I’m sure it’s going to be riddled with mistakes. If anyone reads the guide, would you mind letting me know if you spot any mistakes?
Also, anyone got any good ideas for a pic at the top?
Hope people find this useful 🙂
