Preforming good in PVE is not just about gear, it is also important that you choose the right spec, that you are using the best spell rotation and that you gem and enchant your gear correctly.
For talent spec, i recommend looking up at some good specs at wowhead, wowwiki and other sites, but you can’t really go so much wrong in resto,
For gems you should be stacking Spell Power gems, forget the socket bonus, just throw in red gems, they will increase your healing the most. For totem you will be using Totem of Forest Growth which can be purchased for 15 Emblems of Heroism.
Thank you for reading and good luck raiding.
Needs an updateWe are recently working on improving the quality of content here on WoW-Pro.com, both by limiting low ranked guides and by moving out of date guides into archives. For more information, see the full news post detailing this process.
This guide needs an update to make sure it is current with patch 4.0. However it still has enough useful information that it will be left in it’s proper section as-is.
In Cataclysm this guide will be obsolete and will be moved to the archive section.
If someone else would like to adopt the guide, or if you have any questions about this process, feel free to comment here.
Any Update in SightWith the new badge changes to the Heroics, I was wondering if this guide would be updated to include the new gear that is available through heroics.
Another thingI also totally disagree on your gem advice. There are few healers who would stack pure SP with gems. Druids often do but that’s the exception (and even a lot of them won’t since the patch). I think its all about balance. Popular gems with raiding shamans tend to be Pure SP for red slots, Haste for yellow and SP/MP5 (purple gem) for blue slots.
Its quite simple. If you need a bit more haste or MP5 then go for those gems (if you have the correct coloured socket) otherwise go ahead and stack SP. Bear in mind that as your haste increases you MP5 needs to as well. As I’m constantly reminded by shamans haste = oom quicker.

Totem!Totem of the bay is a good choice if you don’t struggle for mana. Most shamans I know (admittedly they are well geared) go for this totem rather than the emblem one.

Well laid out, quick typoThanks and congrats on the Resto Shaman pre-raid gear guide! 😀
I’ve just noticed a small typo in your opening paragraph, where you’ve spelt ‘perform’ as ‘preforme’. 😕
My suggestions to make thisMy suggestions to make this guide better:

Make it clear that the guide is for Restoration Shaman. From the title picture, it seems like you cover all classes.

Read through the guide and fix your typos, such as “i” not being capitalized.

Make bullets for the items, like I used in this comment.

Finally, if you want to go above and beyond, get item icons for every single item. Here’s some examples of it in action: Kirin Tor Rep Guide, Frenzyheart Rep Guide
Anyway, those are my suggestions for you. You can choose to follow them or not, but I think it would make the guide better if you do. Overall I suppose it’s a nice guide, albeit rather misleading.
Hello, I am currentlyHello, I am currently working on a guide to get raid ready as a Warlock. In that guide I will add Gear, Glyphs, Spec and Rotation. I was wondering if you can add these too, if you already had this on the ToDo, then forget this 🙂
Good guide; a little bit of… ‘unedited’ but the info is good.

First of all, you shouldn’t vagualy(?) point where someone should get their specs. Just copy it and paste that here as a quote, that looks alot better and safes the hassle.
About gems, just create a little section for this, explaining why we would only stack this gem (A little bigger then just a few words, pl0x).
Then as last, for the totem or ranged slot, just add that slot to the gear list, I can’t understand why it isn’t there.
