After some soul-searching, I have decided that the only way to avoid 90% of the install problems that people have is to write an installer for windows.
This will be a program that you:
- Install once from our website
- Can be run manually to install the “latest” version or the “development” version
- Can be invoked by clicking a special link on our website to install a particular version using an custom URL (aka wowpro://v2.3.7)
It will take care of finding the right directory to install into (and support multiple installs of WoW), download the zip file, wipe the old version, and unpack the zip file in the right directory. It can also check the <WOW>/Account/XXX/<Realm>/<Toon>/AddOns.txt file to make sure that if WoW-Pro_* is enabled then WoW-Pro is enabled.
I may be even able to tell the curse client not to manage WoWPro anymore.
What do people think?
PS:
I would think about doing a Mac version as well, but this has the biggest payoff, as I think < 10% of WoW players use Macs.
Re: I would prefer if it wasI guarantee that the zip file will always be availible.Besdies, for us Mac folks, we need the zip files as doing an installer for us will be harder.
I would prefer if it wasI would prefer if it was still optional as I hate installers. I also already told curse client to ignore Wow-Pro and I’ve always done all my installations myself (that is till i got lazy and installed Curse). Still have to do some of them manually since I also use Ace and WowInterface.
How long for an installer? It depends on the weather! If we get two snow days this week, then I’ll need testers Monday or Tuesday, Jan 6/7.But for now, watch the video and tell me if that helps with your immediate problem.
That would be GREAT for theThat would be GREAT for the people like me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When will it be ready ? ??
