Joan’s Leveling Guide, Chapter 1 Part 1 – Human lvl 1-12
Introduction:
This guide starts at level 1 when you create a new character for the humans, you can run someone from the other starts to follow this guide if you really want to.
I wont take the quests that’s specific for the class, but I recommend you to do them. They are most often worth the trouble.
I won’t say “sell and repair” or “visit the class trainer” just do it when you think it’s proper, but try to keep them when you are in the area of a vendor or a trainer.
This guide is maybe not the fastest way to level but it’s a fun and works…
Color key, as follow:
- Level
- Location
- Quest
- NCP’s
- Items / Mobs
Recommendations:
When I’ve done this guide I’ve used the add on “Titan panel” witch is very useful and I recommend you to use it.
Titan panel: It’s a very useful addon with may different features. But it’s mostly because I sometimes use locations in my guide with coordinates (x,y), and the panel shows them. But it’s also shows you a lot of other things. Download the lates version here.
Chapter 1 Part 1
Level 1
You will start in a valley called North Shire Valley in the province Elwynn Forest. You will see some people and a church. But go past this and look for the wolfs, when you find them start killing them until you hit level 2.

Go back and turn in that quest, and take the two follow ups,
- [5]Bounty on Garrick Padfoot

Then go to Milly, she is at the other side of the church building at loc (50,39) . Turn in and get the follow up, [4]Milly Harvest. Once again cross that river and go in to the field, and take 8 of Milly’s Harvest, but be careful, some of them are guarded.
When that is done, go to the very North east corner of the field, and just a bit further northeast until you are at loc (57,48) where you find Garrick Padfoot and one guard. Kill them and loot Garrick’s head. Then go back and hand in the quests, don’t get the follow up if you don’t want that specific reward. By now you should be in level 7 but if you aren’t it’s not a problem, just go and kill some Defias Thug until you hit it.
Level 7
Now it’s time to get moving to Goldshire, just follow the road around the wall, and get the quest [5]Rest and Relaxation at loc (45, 47). Keep following the road until you are in Goldshire, hand in [5]Report to Goldshire, and [5]Rest and Relaxation. And make Goldshire your home.

When you are done, you should be in level 10 but if you are not just kill some more gnomes.

You should have this quests for Elwynn Forest:

1.Go to The Jasperlode Mine, go inside and as far in as you need to complete the quest, then go outside again.
2. Trun in the quest to the guard, and get:
- [10] Find the Lost Guards
- [10] Protect the Frontier
3. It’s a half-eaten body that you need to “take”.
4. The next dead body, is just a little bit away, by the a lake. Be on your guard for the murlocks, they are aggressive and they often kill you if you don’t take them one by one, or two at a time.

10. On the field in Brackwell Pumpkin Parch goes 3 boars, on of them are called the Princess. Kill the 3 of them, they shouldn’t be a problem for you by now, but have some potion just in case.
When you are done, warp back to Goldshire, or walk.
1. Walk to The Stonefield Farm and turn in the quest, [9] Princess Must Die! Then walk over to the fort.

It’s a rather old guide, andIt’s a rather old guide, and come on, the english isn’t that hard to understand. 😉
Anyway, it was the only human starter guide we had for a long time, so it was already nice to have one, even if it wasn’t of the highest quality.
Now we got Maw’s Human Starter guide, which is great. So it’s all good.
However some people still want to use Joan’s guide, because they are familiar with it, therefore I’m not unpublishing it, at least for now.
this one’s a joke..I’ve been more than delighted with all the guides so far.. but c’mon, this one’s barely in English! The descriptions are puzzling and barely decipherable. The images are confusing and hard to follow. Nice attempt, but fail.
Great guide collectionI think that this+the other guides from 1-80 are great.
I have become a great level in not much time! Thanks!
GrammarI don’t want to be too picky, but for 1-5, when you say ‘wolfs’ the plural form of ‘wolf’ is ‘wolves’ 😉 Otherwise, its a great guide!
Kobold LaborersHelpful tip. At level 5 you say after you are finshed killing the Kobold Laborers for the quest to grind them until ding. I found that going back and fighting wolves or the lower level Kobolds gives faster exp rate.

Remys quest isn’t availibleRemys quest isn’t availible until level 7. I have tried this on two humans with no luck until that level. Grinding a level at level six seems a bit extreme considering James guide does 50 levels without grinding 😛
nice guide but it´s a waistnice guide but it´s a waist of time to run to kharanos 😛
I’ve just finished levelingI’ve just finished leveling a human paladin using your guide and I must congratulate you on your quest circuits. While leveling human characters on my own I would often die a lot after the first 5 levels or so, but this hasn’t happened while following this guide.
Although the content is very good, the quality of the guide is not as great. The maps are hard to read, some objectives are not clear enough, not to mention the many grammar errors. I understand that English may not be your mother tongue, but you could at least run your guide through a grammar check.
It’s a pity, the content is great, and this guide could be a great one with a few formatting and map editing. That’s why I have a suggestion for you: send me the raw version of the guide via the PM (complete with bbcoding) and I will format it for you, correct all the grammar errors and add new maps and screenshots. Then I’ll re-send you the new guide and you can publish it as a different version.
If not interested, please reply to me in a PM. Hope to hear from you soon.

Mod suggestionI really enjoyed working through this guide. Even if it isn’t the most effective guide it kept me entertained. I would like to suggest another mod to add to the list for many of these guides, that will help people like me who don’t read ahead and have to alt tab all the time to check what quest they should have.

TourGuide is the mod that I want to support. It allows you to write a script that will help guide you through quests. It will display your current objective (accept quest so and so, run to Ironforge, turn in quest and so on). I have written a script that has all the quest in this guide in the order listed. If you have TomTom or Catographer you will get map way points for all quest areas and NPC’s when you are on that quest. I would suggest installing catographer from the WowAceUpdater as it needs external lib files.
Here is a link to my script, just extract it like the mod. Please tell me what you think. After this load tourguide and load “Joans Human 1-12” as your guide selection. I would also like to add more notes from the guide, but don’t want to infringe on Joan’s copy write or take credit for anything in the guide.
MISTAKEMate, you made a mistake – he says that u should take a FIGHT not FLIGHT path, which means to kill some mobs to get extra xp…
hw ment fight path he didn’thw ment fight path he didn’t say flight. Al he means is go through th wilderness so u will run into animals so you can fight them. :jawdrop:
Thats me ^^Just wanted to shine some light on who posted the comment up there. lol.
Daelas – 70 Warlock
Great guide.I have lvled over 5 characters to 70, and probably several dozen to 40+. Great guide I must say, really nice way to start up for new players. It shows them the whole point of the game, and introduces to 2 major areas (SW-Stormwind, and IF-Ironforge). And that is a huge plus!
Critisizm:
A little remake of this guide would be nice, change a few minor points to make it easier to read.
1. Use the same maps (meaning arrows and colors you use on maps)
2. Be more specific on where to go and how to get there (etc flight paths, and tram)
Great guide!
Thank YouI just wanted to post to say thanks. I made a Human Mage, and I never played a Human past level 6. I used this guide and leveled to 13 before the guide said that I would. So I was 13 1/2 when I was done. Getting ready to start 13-20/21 tomorrow. Thanks again
~Boxy~
Just wanted to say a bigJust wanted to say a big THANK YOU for this guide. I stopped playing WoW almost a year ago because I got bored.
I had a hankering to play something over the Bank Holiday, reinstalled Wow and followed your guide. It’s really sparked a renewed interest in WoW for me.
Following your guide has made playing WoW fun rather than a chore. Many, many thanks 🙂
Just a thought
You say toJust a thought
You say to kill wolves until you’re 3, but you don;t mention anything about getting the quest. I’m not sure if you meant for that or not, but if you grind out wolves then thats just extra experience from the quest.
-Blade
Have to disagree with you.‘First of all, staying in the Northshire Valley until you hit leve 7 is timewaste.’
Have to disagree with you. Joan starts the best how you can start, grind. The first 2/3 levels are jokes, just kill 20 boars and you dinged already. When you start at level 2/3 with the quests, you end up being higher level, and then finished all the quests. Still questing is more XP then grinding. When you leave northsire at level 7, you abit stronger for the higher level quests. It’s no time waste.. walking to your dead body is. Spec new players will have duo-pulls etc.
Now, go to Brewnall Village,Now, go to Brewnall Village, take the fight path, so you get some extra xp.
There is no flight path here, and it doesn’t guve extra xp. What do you mean by this?
I have to say that this is aI have to say that this is a great guide to the game, not just to leveling. I’m brand new to WoW and I really appreciated the guide.
The Vineyard can be hard, not because it is hard, but because so many other characters are overrunning it 😉
Also, it helps to know that to get to Kharanos what you do is go to Stormwind, ask a guard for directions to the tram, take the tram to the land of the dwarves and then it all makes sense.
Life was alot easier once I realized I could just click on a guard and get directions.
Too bad many towns lack guards …
i’d like to say good job alsoHi
The guide we’ve seen is very appropiate for new playres as it gives exact locations of quest items and where to go for your level however i would like to add a bit of constructive critism.
Firstly it is easily possible to lvl up to 11 in elywnn forest for humans, dwarfen quests are some what slow in exp while human quests, some argue are the fastest out of the 3 starting areas.
Secondly leveling is faster than grinding, or vice verser arguments are a common opinions but the fastest is a mixture, Say the quest red linen goods, u require 6 leather head bands, apart from the very effective way where u did 3 quests in that same area, if u kill enough mobs for 6 headbands but then kill the same amount of mobs as the quest objective,
e.g for this quest u need 6 armbands so kill 6 mobs after, not only is it grinding for a little bit, it also helps tremdously if they’re all added up on the way to 60.
Just 1 more point about grinding, most quests involve grinding, if we take another example,
The people’s milithia
This quest is obtained in westfall for allaince and u need to kill 30 mobs total for the first 2 parts, not only if u kill a few more like 45 mobs which is considered grinding u also get the 1000exp for handing in the quest, so questing is faster fundimentaly because of the extra quickly added exp at the end
Thirdly, just before i finish i agree with an earlier post that grinding lvl 2-3-4 mobs in elywnn is a time waste when u can esily grind lvl 6-7 mobs outside.
Thx again for this superb guide
Zillian
:)Just a quick note to Deak’s point.
Grinding may appear faster, and sometimes nice drops but
1) This is perfect for new players to keep them interested in the game
2) Alot of quest rewards give you good weaps/armor which saves you more money in the long run and keeps your weap/armor pretty much up todate, leaving you more money for spells and better armor out of the AH
Kissy 🙂
I’d like to say GREAT JOB,I’d like to say GREAT JOB, just finished leveling up to 13 today, and i must say this was certainly a efficient method. It may not have been the absolute fastest way , but i kept my sanity thanks to the quests (which kept it fun), additionally the rep earned from these early quests can only help later- e.g vendor discounts at all major cities. The only criticism i have of it was the pictures: you used red numbers on a green map. While for the vast majority of people this is fine – i’m color blind and had to get some help to read it. If you could change the numbers to black – that may help some color blind people… Other than that – really good job.
Bravo
Well… I don’t want to haveWell… I don’t want to have the grinding insted of the trip to Kharanos, it’s the quests that are intresting for me and also for the guide.
And I have followed my guide in in Northshire Valley and done it all in 45 minutes so it’s not alot of wast of time there.
But you have right as well but I’ve never said it’s the FASTES way to do it, it’s just a way to do it!
:)My intentions on this comment is NOT offensive in nature, purely constructive.
First of all, staying in the Northshire Valley until you hit leve 7 is timewaste. It’s way more easier to grind seven when you exit. Start out grinding until you hit level 2 1/2 Then do the quests. And don’t grind on workers from 4-5 that will take a looooong time.
My record on reaching level 6 and finishing all in Northshire is 48 minutes, with serious powergaming, but i know it can be done faster.
And heading up to Kharanos as a human is ALSO a timewaste. Instead, grind wizards on the island in Elwynn, as they die fast, drop good loot and damage output is not among the highest at that level. Do this from level 11-13 then do the hogger quest, if possible.
