This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Leveling Guides into TourGuide Format, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.
Before you sign in for testing, revamping or writing a guide for the AddOn you should read the following two pages:
Now that you know what to do, you can take a look at the overview lists for the two factions. It might look a bit confusing on first sight but it’s really easy:
In the Status column you can see what the current status of every guide is:
N/A | The guide has not been written yet (not available) |
Testing | The guide has been written but not been tested by anyone but the author. |
Improvements | The guide has been written and tested, but it needs improvements. Numbers behind the status will forward you to posts with information on the needed improvements. |
Quality | The guide has been tested, revamped and has a very good quality. The stars indicate how well the guide has been tested. A quality guide with one star has only been tested by one person so there might still be some flaws. |
Now that you’re informed about what needs to be done, you have to look at the Progress column if the guide is already in work.
A indicates that there is no one working on this guide at the moment, so feel free to do it!
A tells you that there is someone working on that guide, if you click on the icon you will be redirected to the editors user-page.
Before you start editing a guide you should look if there are some edited files that are not included in the AddOn by default.
If the download arrow is green it means that there are files to download. Just click the arrow to download them. Put those files into the folder of the according Guide Package AddOn.
The little lamp will redirect you to a section on the “Mistakes” page. There you can see a list of known mistakes in the guide. You should take a look at this list even if the guide is not marked for Improvements!
If you found a guide that suits you and no one else is working at, you can either write a comment so that someone can add you to the list, or you can try to add yourself.
Please give us an update every week (at least) by changing the Last Updated column and giving some information about your progress in the Progress column so that everyone who wants to know can check how far you are. If we don’t hear from you in over a week, and someone else wants to take over revising/writing that section of the guide, it’s fair game! This way parts of the guide won’t be left unfinished.
If you’ve finished your part add a link to the file you edited in the Progress column and leave a comment!
I had the same problemI had the same problem trying to download the morrisland files. If you go to http://public.morrisland.com/, they’re all located there.
Thanks Gethe! I think IThanks Gethe! I think I fixed that at some point but forgot to upload it. I’ll do a quick fix in a bit.
I feel obligated to pointI feel obligated to point out that the optional Silithus guide(horde) still directs you to itself, instead of Hellfire Peninsula, when the guide is finished.
Alliance Guide UpdatesHi folks.
I’m working on compiling a new addon version. Unfortunately, some of the guide updates linked above are not functioning properly. Specifically, links from Boston’s 20-30 to Jame’s 50-60, on the Alliance side. The user who uses morrisland.com needs to either re-upload or fix the links if you want them included in the update. Sorry about that!
It’s calledIt’s called “guides.xml”
But yes, when I release an update it should work since I will be updating that file.
Editing XMLThere’s a file that needs to be edited so that it shows up in the Guide list. I’m at work and can’t remember what it is. It looks like Jiyambi is working an an update for us.
James
Thanks, I just gotThanks, I just got permissions from Jame to do a version update for the addon. This weekend I’m going to make sure everything works and upload new versions for both Horde and Alliance.
Thanks for the hard work everyone!
Alliance Death Knightby the looks of it the Death Knight AddOn Guide looks great, other than the fact that I can’t seem to get it to work. so perhaps to resolve the situation you should put it up with the rest of the finished downloads.
downloading DKI’m having trouble downloading the half-finished DK Alliance Guide I clicked download then save then I saved to the Jame’s Alliance add-on leveling guide folder in the addon folder but when I restared Warcraft I could not find the guide in the list of guides giving you you in the interface –> addon section of the in-game main menu. please help if you can.
Okay, the links should beOkay, the links should be corrected now to not require a login.
They are all located under http://public.morrisland.com
That’s a Good Idea…..I’ll just add them as a note when you’re in the area and call it good.
James
It’s not supposed to requireIt’s not supposed to require a login. If I can’t get it sorted, I’ll post them somewhere else. Sorry about that.
I’m mixed with this… MaybeI’m mixed with this… Maybe just add them as you go past them while in the guides? I know in the Howling Fjord guide or the Horde version at least, there’s a note about the Friend or Fowl achi.
But I can also see how they aren’t important to the overall ‘Leveling Guide’ which is what these are. If they were to be included, I would perhaps include them as optional bonuses as you pass them, but not an actual required step in the guide, and nothing to go out of your way to do specially.

Jame had this exact questionJame had this exact question on his blog back when Wrath was coming out. I think in the end he decided not to have all these little achievements.
I think it would bog down the guide, because some people don’t care about achievements. For the exploratory ones, well, it’s a matter of going to one more area on the map for the most part, especially in the Northrend zones. It’s something that’s small and almost completely covered by the guide already. But I think it’s best to leave the other achievements out.
Still, it would be good to hear from others about this. Any one else have a comment/opinion?
Just a Thought…..Jiyambi, you made the comment about all the Achievements that you can get in the guide would be great, right?
I just uploaded the newest version of Alliance Borean Tundra, including all the points you need for the Exploration Achievement.
But I have been thinking……I know, scary.
What if I add the reading and “squirrel,” fishing, and pest stuff into those. Is that overkill? I can see both sides of it and I’m just curious. If you think it’s worthwhile, I can get in touch with Tekkub and see if there’s an event that’s fired within WoW that can have an automated step in TourGuide. Again, is that worthwhile, or just overkill?
My biggest fear is that I only have one more toon to go through and I’d need to do a “S.W.A.G” swing at the LUA before I went through with my last toon.
Let me know……
James
Broken Links…The guides that are linked to morrisland.com (ie. Boston’s Leveling Guide (20-30)) aske for a login. Is there a place to get these updated .luas that doesn’t require special access? Thanks!
Heh, I like that goal. IHeh, I like that goal. I would add to it – without ever having to read the text to know where to go next. I try to make sure there is an arrow for every step except some sell/repair steps, including flight point and innkeeper steps.
Alliance Hellfire PeninsulaJust uploaded a revised draft of the Alliance Hellfire guide. As usual, my goal was to run through the whole land without having to check off any objective or open my bags to complete a quest. The changes to the guide were mostly to add item buttons and auto-complete tags to the existing quests.
Alliance Howling FjordI just uploaded the latest version. It includes some small fixes and also adds the waypoints for the Exploration Achievement.
James
That’s because I coded them!That’s because I coded them! Bwahahaha! 🙂
Sorry, this is in theSorry, this is in the alliance guides. I just took a quick look at the horde guides and it seems to already be correct there.
Thanks for the info! Is thisThanks for the info! Is this Horde or Alliance?
Small fixThe file 002_54_56_Jame_Ungoro_Crater.lua has the name of the zone mis-capitalized in the registration line. This causes TourGuide to use the current zone to set waypoints instead of the Un’Goro Crater zone. The corrected registration line (first line of the file) is
TourGuide:RegisterGuide(“[WoW-Pro | Jame’s 50-60] Un’Goro Crater (54-56)”, “[WoW-Pro | Jame’s 50-60] Winterspring (56-56)”, “Alliance”, function()
The only change is capitalizing “Un’Goro Crater” instead of “Un’goro Crater”.
Janzert
FixedI’ve taken care of that for you.
James
I’ve decided to make theI’ve decided to make the alliance DK guide but i will need some to add in the picture to the section, i had some trouble with that.
That’s Funny!!!When my wife comes downstairs and I’m playing Warcraft (which is…..Pretty much as much time as I can), she asks me what I’m doing. I always say that I’m working.
If I give you her cell number, would you call her and tell her that I truly am working???? LOL
James
James, you are aJames, you are a hard-working and awesome person. Thank you!
Alliance DragonblightI uploaded a new Alliance Dragonblight section. I made a couple more changes and added in steps to get the Exploration Achievement.
James
So I have completed TerokkarSo I have completed Terokkar Forest part of the guide, I havent seen any errors. Although some quests should have some descriptions, because newbies could have been a little confused.
As for Nagrand part im in he middle of a guide, so far no errors.
Hello
Im leveling my warlockHello
Im leveling my warlock through Outlands and i’m going to test:
1) Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide – Terokkar Forest
2) Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide – Nagrand
I’m now in the middle of Terokkar quests, until now no errors etc.
PS. I forgot to write down few errors from Zangarmarsh part ( but it was only wrong or not correct coordinations). As for Hellfire Peninsula i havent noticed any errors.
Cheers,
Valexan

(Cant remember who made the bloodmyst guide) 12-20
Bostons guide from 20-30
And then Jame’s guides.
Right now im lvl 31 and at the end of Bostons guide.
Just wanted to let you know im testing Jame’s ally guides 😉
hey,i can start coding thehey,i can start coding the Manovan’s Night Elf Guide (1-13) if you want to. posting this so there won’t be any conflict with people doing the same thing
Grizzly HillsI’ve uploaded a new file for Alliance – Grizzly Hills. The Explore Achievement is taken care of by doing the normal quests, but I fixed a couple of problems that were pointed out and another couple that I found. I gave it a second star.
James
Probably just hasn’t beenProbably just hasn’t been coded yet. I’ll add it to the list above.
I was wondering why we doI was wondering why we do use Manovan’s Undead Leveling Guide (1-13), but not his Night Elf Leveling Guide (1-13)with the Tour Guide add-on? I mean Taralom’s Night Elf 1-12 guide isn’t bad, but I think Manovan’s Night Elf guide is a lot better.
Just a thought. 🙂
Thanks for the hard work! Thanks for the hard work!
Horde Dragonblight Revamp CompleteI have completed and uploaded the revamped Horde Dragonblight file, here. There were only a few mistakes, and I’m happy to award the guide it’s first quality star.
On to Grizzly Hills!
i have tested and revised snowflakes draenei starter guidehi, i have tested and revised snowflakes draenei starter guide and uploaded it to
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?hmxjdromzz2
More then happy to help out! 🙂
i will be testing thei will be testing the draenei start guide if noone else is at the job
I’m fairly certain it’sI’m fairly certain it’s always had to be capitalized.
Alliance Death Knight guideI know the coords don’t work right in the starter land, but since QuestHelper is able to put points on the map then TourGuide will eventually get it all together. So I uploaded my draft of the DK guide. It isn’t complete, since I generally run off to Outland before hitting the end of the text guide, but it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
Multi-part quest namesI just uploaded a large set of fixes to the Alliance guides (almost every one of them up to level 55). Most of the changes were obvious things, like adding item tags to hearthstone steps etc.
But one thing that surprised me was the number of quests that had ” (part 1)” instead of ” (Part 1)”. TourGuide 3.1.0.51-beta doesn’t recognize the string unless it’s got a capital “P” for part. It also doesn’t recognize other text, such as “follow-up”, as a multi-part quest. Was this working in a previous version of TourGuide, or is it just that I’m the only person it irritates?
Anyway, if this isn’t something generally useful I can back out those changes and just publish the other revisions.
Snowflake’s Draenei Starter (1-12)Hi, long time fan of this site. Figured I might as well start giving something back since I make good use of these guides. I played through Snowflake’s Draenei Starting Guide and made some improvements and corrections where I could. Uploaded the file here: https://sites.google.com/site/yakuko/Home/000_1_12_Snowflakes_Draenei_Starter.lua?attredirects=0
Going to tackle the Bloodmyst one next.
FixedThanks for the comment. I’ve fixed the 2 places where it was wrong and uploaded.
James
Not a contributor but…There are a couple typos in the Grizzly Hills guide, in the section dealing with Dun’Argol. One that I noticed in particular was where you’re supposed to take stairs to the “southest”. I couldn’t figure out at first if that was east or west. Turns out it’s west. 🙂
Oh yes it is. Don’t know ifOh yes it is. 😀 Don’t know if someone I know is gonna read it though. Most of them don’t play at all. 😛
Anyway, I guess I’ll try SilverKnights Silverpine Guide next. I’m 13 already (pally quest) but I guess that won’t hurt. 😀
Hah, nope can’t understandHah, nope can’t understand it but I looked at it anyways 😉 Blogging is fun!
Thank you. Glad I couldThank you. 😀 Glad I could help.
As I posted before I only added those zones that were not covered by simply doing all the quests in the guide. Otherwise it would be way too much. 🙂 But a few hints here and there don’t hurt. 😀
I hope someone else will test the guide again though. 🙂 I just tried to load it and clicked through all the steps once. It seemed to work okay but you never know. 😉
I haven’t decided which guide to use next but will have a look at the other guides next week when I start the next session of speed leveling. 😀 I’m blogging about it like Holyjame and Mokrana but it’s in german. 😉 So I don’t know if any of you understand it. Got some pictures in there as well so maybe you want to check it out anyway. 🙂
I Never Thought of That…..That’s just something that I never considered, but a great idea. When questing in Northrend I’ve made it a point of making sure I have all of the “zones” in a zone to get the achievement before I head to the next zone. It would be EXTREMELY easy to add that into the guide. I’ll keep that in mind as I’m revising…..Nice touch!!!!
James
Awesome, thanks so much forAwesome, thanks so much for the update! The achievement notes are a nice touch 🙂
