You are currently viewing a Wiki Page. It can be edited by anyone who is currently logged in. Before you change anything, please make sure to read our FAQ, the editing guidelines of this post as well as its comments.

This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Leveling Guides into TourGuide Format, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.

Read Me!

Before you sign in for testing, revamping or writing a guide for the AddOn you should read the following two pages:

Now that you know what to do, you can take a look at the overview lists for the two factions. It might look a bit confusing on first sight but it’s really easy:

In the Status column you can see what the current status of every guide is:

N/A The guide has not been written yet (not available)
Testing The guide has been written but not been tested by anyone but the author.
Improvements The guide has been written and tested, but it needs improvements. Numbers behind the status will forward you to posts with information on the needed improvements.
Quality The guide has been tested, revamped and has a very good quality. The stars indicate how well the guide has been tested. A quality guide with one star has only been tested by one person so there might still be some flaws.

Now that you’re informed about what needs to be done, you have to look at the Progress column if the guide is already in work.

A indicates that there is no one working on this guide at the moment, so feel free to do it!

A tells you that there is someone working on that guide, if you click on the icon you will be redirected to the editors user-page.

Before you start editing a guide you should look if there are some edited files that are not included in the AddOn by default.

If the download arrow is green it means that there are files to download. Just click the arrow to download them. Put those files into the folder of the according Guide Package AddOn.

The little lamp will redirect you to a section on the “Mistakes” page. There you can see a list of known mistakes in the guide. You should take a look at this list even if the guide is not marked for Improvements!

If you found a guide that suits you and no one else is working at, you can either write a comment so that someone can add you to the list, or you can try to add yourself.

Please give us an update every week (at least) by changing the Last Updated column and giving some information about your progress in the Progress column so that everyone who wants to know can check how far you are. If we don’t hear from you in over a week, and someone else wants to take over revising/writing that section of the guide, it’s fair game! This way parts of the guide won’t be left unfinished.

If you’ve finished your part add a link to the file you edited in the Progress column and leave a comment!

    Snowflake Bloodelf Starter Guide changesHey,

I have edited Snowflake’s BE starter guide and made the following changes: Changed typos and added short descriptions where necessary: sometimes the coords would mix up in my german client due to zone problems. So a short note where to find an npc or where to go next helps a lot!

Also removed the “optional” from the first opt. quest circuit in snowflake’s guide. I did it with a pally and just dinged lvl 10 in time to go to the trainer when the guide sugested to do so. Without the circuit I would still have been lvl 9. Also you get a small bag which is always a good thing in the beginning if you can’t afford to buy one. 🙂

Apart from that I just added two small notes for explorer achievement that are not covered by simply following the guide. It’s Elrendar Falls and the Azurecoast which is hard to find if you don’t know about it. I added them when you’re near the location anyway so it doesn’t interfere with the rest of the guide. 🙂

Hope it helps to improve the guide. I’ve uploaded the new version here.

The guide is very good. I made it to level 12 in about 3 hours and 14 minutes. 😀

Any of the guides not markedAny of the guides not marked “Quality” are in need of testing/revising, and even those marked “Quality” can always use more testing. If there is someone signed up for one, though, you should wait and test a different one so we aren’t having editing collisions.

Just leveled throughJust leveled through Zerinj’s and Snowflakes guides (1-12 Durotar & 13-21 Ghostlands) and asides from 1 or 2 very miinor spelling errors, they are both complete I think. I can fix the typo’s myself and re-upload it or make a note of them and pass them on if you’d rather?

    Let me know 🙂

Horde Borean TundraJust finished updating the Borean Tundra section.

Unfortunately I got a little lazy towards the end and didn’t add a few coordinates that probably should have been added. The guide works fine as is, the descriptions are plenty to find the necessary quest mobs/flight points, but it really should have those coords. So, I can’t in good faith give this a star, it’s not perfect yet (even though it’s my own fault). But, then next person to edit it should have very little to do.

The file can be downloaded [url=http://sites.google.com/site/jiyambi/horde-leveling-addon-revisions/002_71_73_Jame_Borean_Tundra.lua?attredirects=0]here[/url].

*Pop*That loud pop you heard was me pulling my head out of my ass.

I’ve been taking my mage through Borean Tundra over the last couple of days. I was around halfway through before I realized that I was using on old copy of the file. It won’t be receiving a second star on this pass. Fear not, I still have a warrior and a paladin to go through the zone so hopefully it will be in good shape by the time Jame gets there.

Hah, I’ve noticed this too.Hah, I’ve noticed this too. I do know that, at least on the Horde side, some of the later guides (60+) need little to no revisions, they are really high quality. But the 30-40 section needs a lot of work.

I myself have been less active with this of late, due to RL and other WoW commitments, but once summer rolls around I should be back to my old activeness.

Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (21-31)As discussed with Jiyambi, I am taking on Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (21-31) for testing. I have done and will be doing revisions as I go along, as I see fit.

On another note: Is it possible that not many people are still working on the guides? It seems as if quite a number of helpers have disappeared 🙁 I loved to see several posts here every day, and now it’s only ever my own posts I get to read here 😀 🙁

Come on guys, give us a hand here! 😉

Thorough? That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever called me…..I appreciate that….LOL

I wouldn’t say I’m thorough, I just know that I never get anything right the first time…..Or the second time, or the third time, etc. A wise man once said that practice makes perfect. I’m just hopeful that I will have gone through enough times that Jame will be able to run through it once and give it a perfect and be able to go to the next step.

BTW. I just noticed that whoever did the original Howling Fjord put a version number (and date) at the top of the file. I’ll be adding that to the rest of the files I’m going through. I’ll also note that in the above list so that Jame can see what the current version is.

    James

  • img
    May 7, 2009 @ 11:31 am

Alright, good to hear. YouAlright, good to hear. You really are very thorough with testing, I like that! 🙂

Concerning the “removing yourself” I didn’t mean the download link of course. That should always remain linked to the most up to date file version. What I meant was when one person is finished testing & revising and has uploaded the most current file, then they should remove their name as being the current person in charge. That way everyone knows which guides can be picked up for revision, and which ones cannot (because they are currently being worked on by somebody).

  • img
    May 6, 2009 @ 0:03 am

Hmmm, that could be theHmmm, that could be the problem, I’m not sure since I don’t have experience with other language clients, but it seems plausible.

  • img
    May 5, 2009 @ 23:08 pm

Well in that case it shouldWell in that case it should have worked since the two steps are just behind each other in the order that I quoted it in…
Maybe the problem is that I am using the German client version. Is it checking for the exact quest name? Since these would obviously not match…

  • img
    May 5, 2009 @ 19:58 pm

This only works if TheThis only works if The Lady’s Necklace was turned in during the same guide, because it only checks if there are any steps in the guides completed. It can’t access your invisible list of completed quests that I really wish Bliz would make visible >_<

  • img
    May 5, 2009 @ 15:12 pm

Work in Progress….I still have 3 toons to go through that zone (in steps). The second time you get Fjord Grubs (I think that’s what they’re called, the step where you have to get 10 of them) didn’t auto complete. I looked and looked and couldn’t figure out why it didn’t. I’d like to go through at least one more time. There was one other step that I can’t remember (it’s on a notepad at home and I’m at work) that wasn’t correct and I’d like to go by at least one more time.

I did put another star up and my mage is working his way through Borean Tundra now so that should have a second star shortly. I think Jame is downloading all the “works in progress” files and putting them into the “current” release when he posts that. If that’s not correct, let me know.

My wife is going to go across the state to visit her daughter this weekend which I thought meant I’d have the weekend to play. 🙂 Apparently, I’m going along….. 🙁

Need help with codeHey folks, having just encountered this bit in the guide I am just revising, I am not sure how to fix the problem.

    The code:

    T The Lady’s Necklace |QID|9175| |O| |T|
    A Journey to Undercity |QID|9180| |O| |PRE|The Lady’s Necklace| |T|

The behaviour we [b]want this to have[/b] is:
If [i]The Lady’s Necklace[/i] has been completed, take the follow up [i]Journey to Undercity[/i].

However it is completely ignoring the second step, since we already turned in [i]The Lady’s Necklace[/i] and it doesn’t seem to determine that it [b]was[/b] completed. 🙁

    Any help?

ThanksWell thanks a lot James for doing this! Sounds like it’s worth a quality star then 🙂
Now have you already added that quality star after posting this? Yey, I love stars! 😀

Also, are you still continuing work on this or did you just forget to “remove yourself” from the list and change the status to “free for testing”?

    Anyhow, big thanks!

Alliance Howling FjordI just finished the second run through of this section and uploaded it.

There wasn’t much to fix, found another typo and added the coords for the jump off point before the Eyes of the Eagle quest.

    I think it’s pretty close.

You need to open theYou need to open the “Guides” file with a text editor (like notepad). You’ll see a long list of guides. Just copy+paste one of the lines to the space where the Dragonblight guide should be, and change the name to match the Dragonblight file. This should make it appear in game.

Downloading dragonblight addonHi, first time poster but longtime fan of your guides (and now using the addon). I have tried to install the Alliance Dragonblight chapter and I’ve put it in the wow-pro folder in my addon’s folder like all the others are, but when I log into wow the chapter doesn’t appear under the guides list like the others. I couldn’t find any info on here that addressed my problem, but I would love some help.

Can you check on that Jahwo?

Bug sorted / I was using the first guide that was relevent to me when the select guide window opened, it didn’t occur to me there might be several version covering the same area.
The problem is with the guide listed at the bottom, not Jame’s! I could have gone to Howling Fjord after all, if I had scrolled up the list. It’s too late for me now, just dinged level 75 after Borean Tundra and moving onto Jame’s Dragonblight guide.
    I must declare, I love this add-on

Have played through theHave played through the Snowflake’s Blood Elf starter with some characters, and it seems mostly fine, except for the following:
    – Coordinates for steps in Silvermoon City are sometimes in wrong zone.
    – It’s annoying in Fairbreeze village to have to run up-hill to get a quest, then run down and buy fireworks, and then again up to do said quest.
    – Lack of class-quest integration.

Making Money while guide testingHey folks!

I know some of you are taking a page from Jame’s (and my) book and trying to level brand new characters on brand new servers to test this addon.

I have been doing this (as most of you know) to speed test the addon. I have been absolutely shocked at the amount of money I have been able to make with pretty much zero time and effort.

To shamelessly plug my blog, [url=http://fiannaguild.blogspot.com/2009/04/making-money-as-lowbie.html]go check out my most recent post[/url] to see how I do it. You should have no problem at all getting 16 slot bags and your mount by level 30.

I might make this into a gold guide here someday, but it’s really a very simple set of tips and I don’t think it’s guide worthy. Perhaps one of you gold guide people will incorporate it into one of your guides, that would be excellent and you have my full permission and support 🙂

Snowflake’s Ghostlands Guide (13-21)I have picked up Snowflake’s Ghostlands Guide (13-21) for testing and revision. To start with I have downloaded the newest version from Jiyambi which was linked for download. I have already started to make improvements as I came along (e.g. adding locs for innkeeper, flight master, and fixing some quests which should be racial). The newest file version will be linked above or can be [url=http://sites.google.com/site/skully0815/horde-leveling-addon-revisions/001_13_21_Snowflake_Ghostlands.lua?attredirects=0]downloaded here[/url].

Manovan’s Undead StarterI have played through Manovan’s Undead Starter Guide and made several improvements, fixed a few things and added more info where appropiate. Overall the guides flow is very good and I would like to award it it’s first star for quality. The revised file is linked above and can be [url=http://sites.google.com/site/skully0815/horde-leveling-addon-revisions/000_1_12_Manovan_Undead_Starter.lua?attredirects=0]downloaded here[/url].

This is a bug that happensThis is a bug that happens occasionally with the Howling Fjord guide, and I just have no idea why. We have had several people with this problem, but also lots of folks who have gotten through the guide fine without any problems. Try Shift-clicking the guide to reset it, this may help but it also may not.

    Shadow Moon ValleyHi Jame,
The guides I have tried are so good it’s hard to imagine not using them whenever I want to level a character!
I jumped into Shadow Moon Valley guide as I had already done a few of the quests before I decided to give your add-on a try. I just finished the guide and tried to select the next part “Howling Fjord”. It automatically came up as 100% completed and loaded Borean Tundra. I have a level 72 character, should I proceed to Borean Tundra, is it a fault. Your advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    G

Yes, I’ve come across thisYes, I’ve come across this already. A few missing quest IDs, and some quests even with IDs didn’t show coords, I added them. Also the note step you are talking about just had it’s auto complete thing entered incorrectly, fixed it. I think I’m around halfway done with the zone now.

I agree that it was veryI agree that it was very smooth. However, in the Borean Tundra Guide, you’ll find many more errors than before! Haha, I was too tired to report them, but things to watch out for are missing coordinates and missing quest turn-in steps, or for that matter, glitchy complete steps.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just that I checked off a step when I wasn’t supposed to, but they were “note” steps! I didn’t think they were linked to quest turn-in steps! :O

Anyway, I’ll start going through the Dragonblight guide soon, and this time I’ll report EVERYTHING. 😀
