This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Leveling Guides into TourGuide Format, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.
Before you sign in for testing, revamping or writing a guide for the AddOn you should read the following two pages:
Now that you know what to do, you can take a look at the overview lists for the two factions. It might look a bit confusing on first sight but it’s really easy:
In the Status column you can see what the current status of every guide is:
N/A | The guide has not been written yet (not available) |
Testing | The guide has been written but not been tested by anyone but the author. |
Improvements | The guide has been written and tested, but it needs improvements. Numbers behind the status will forward you to posts with information on the needed improvements. |
Quality | The guide has been tested, revamped and has a very good quality. The stars indicate how well the guide has been tested. A quality guide with one star has only been tested by one person so there might still be some flaws. |
Now that you’re informed about what needs to be done, you have to look at the Progress column if the guide is already in work.
A indicates that there is no one working on this guide at the moment, so feel free to do it!
A tells you that there is someone working on that guide, if you click on the icon you will be redirected to the editors user-page.
Before you start editing a guide you should look if there are some edited files that are not included in the AddOn by default.
If the download arrow is green it means that there are files to download. Just click the arrow to download them. Put those files into the folder of the according Guide Package AddOn.
The little lamp will redirect you to a section on the “Mistakes” page. There you can see a list of known mistakes in the guide. You should take a look at this list even if the guide is not marked for Improvements!
If you found a guide that suits you and no one else is working at, you can either write a comment so that someone can add you to the list, or you can try to add yourself.
Please give us an update every week (at least) by changing the Last Updated column and giving some information about your progress in the Progress column so that everyone who wants to know can check how far you are. If we don’t hear from you in over a week, and someone else wants to take over revising/writing that section of the guide, it’s fair game! This way parts of the guide won’t be left unfinished.
If you’ve finished your part add a link to the file you edited in the Progress column and leave a comment!
Horde Howling Fjord RevisionHey all! Just finished playing through the Horde Howling Fjord addon version, it went very smoothly and I only added a few minor things such as coordinates for flight masters and innkeepers. I awarded it a star of quality. You can download the updated file here.

Revamp! Terokkar, Scryer and Aldor!I finished the revamps of the Terokkar guides for both Aldor and Scryer both are awesome qualties, but the Aldor version is missing a few repair locations, since I choose Scryers, but that shouldn’t be a problem at all. The guides can be found here:
Aldor: http://www.mediafire.com/?hnjzjmjnhm2
Scryer: http://www.mediafire.com/?yjmgwrnytqz
I Don’t Think So….I think this is one of the default guides that comes with TourGuide?
Although, I think this guide was still included in the WoWPro addon when Jahwo changed it to hide everything except for the WoWPro guides.

Wow-pro NLX3674 icecrown 79-80Is this a wow pro guide? It’s in the wow pro folder. If so I have a number of notes so far.
“No one impedes us…no one denies us….and if need be….no one survives us…,”
Alliance Hellfire GuideHey,
Just tested the Hellfire guide on my Death knight, I don’t think I found any mistakes, however I think there were one or two way points missing. Unfortunately my hard disk just mucked up and I have to reinstall the OS. This means I lost the nice little text file that I had with all notes (few though they were) on this guide. 🙁
Sorry that I cannot be more helpful.
Cheers
There is an option toThere is an option to display note coords in addition to lightheaded coords in TourGuide’s interface options.
Heh, well it’s not that IHeh, well it’s not that I mind staying in Outland so much, but I tried tanking UK with Nagrand gear on and got my face eaten off. So Northrend it is.
Heh, I don’t blame youHeh, I don’t blame you. I was 70 by Blade’s Edge too, and by that time Outlands was boring me.
Just a quick note:
Since myJust a quick note:
Since my testing character is level 70 now and I’m anxious to run instances, I’ve decided to skip on to Howling Fjord. I will come back and write the Blade’s Edge guide eventually if no one gets to it sooner. However right now I want to run instances, and mostly people run instances in Northrend at my level, and I just don’t have the gear to tank them properly with these low level quest rewards. So, on to Howling Fjord, and I’m sorry if you were looking forward to the Blade’s Edge guide!
First of all, have coordsFirst of all, have coords been working for other steps?
If so, then it is indeed a problem with Lightheaded conflicting with TourGuide, and yes, the only way to fix it would be to remove the quest ID. But please be sure that the coordinates for other steps are working correctly first, so we know that this is the cause and not something else with your user interface.
Off track but…i wanted a priest toon rely bad so i made a night elf one.
as i was running around i was told to complete(crossed swords thingy) the quest crown of earth part 1.
it had no note on it and no coords so finally i was reading quest descript and saw north of aldrassil and using my map(which was filled in by an addon) to find the well.
i checked in the guide and it had coords and a quest id. does this mean that Lightheaded is canceling tourguide out or what?
script:
T Crown of the Earth (Part 1) |N| (59.10, 39.40)| |QID|921|
should i just remove the quest id?
also if im posting this on the wrong page can sumone link me to the correct one.
As obvious as this might be,As obvious as this might be, I think it might still be worth mentioning:
When testing with client language versions other than English this happens too. But despite this message, once the quest is accepted it always worked for me.
Oh, I learn something newOh, I learn something new everyday 😀
No, unless it’s the factNo, unless it’s the fact that “part” isn’t capitalized. Multiple-part quests *have* to have the (Part X) in the title in order to keep them all from auto-completing when the first one does. Tourguide is programmed to ignore that when checking the title on the accept screen, but it’s possible that it’s caps sensitive and that might be the problem.
/cheer! /cheer!
Maybe it’s because it saysMaybe it’s because it says (part 1) in the title?
Revamp! ZangarmarshJust finished testing and revising Zangarmarsh for the Alliance and moving on to Terokkar Aldor and Scryer, the new version of Zangarmasrh can be found here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mzmjynrjgd0
The problem is in theThe problem is in the quest’s title, not the quest ID. TourGuide isn’t recognizing the title as belonging to that quest for some reason. Which faction are you, Horde or Alliance?
41-42 BadlandsI was questing and it told me to goto a NPC and pick up a quest.
I goto the NPC and when it goes to quest description thing(where u can accept/decline it) tourguide says this quest is not in your guide! but its the quest it is telling me to get. i went into the code and checked it the QID is correct and now im incredibly confused.
the object in question is
A This Is Going to Be Hard (part 1) |QID|734
o ok i kinda didn’t reado ok i kinda didn’t read through all the way and saw the thing about lightheaded after i had alredy posted. Soooo ill be testing!
Heh, well I’ll still goHeh, well I’ll still go through and make sure the “Parts” match up and that everything is a-okay 😉
Having done these missingHaving done these missing quests now, I notice that in a later guide file, 002_44b_45_Jame_Stranglethorn.lua these steps are included :O
Lines 11-15:
C Raptor Mastery (Part 3)|N|Jungle raptors are just across the road from the miners. Keep the Jungle Stalker Feathers you find too. | |QID|196|
C Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 2) |N|Keep killing raptors until you find 10 Jungle Stalker Feathers. (33,39)| |L|3863 10| |QID|572|
T Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 2) |QID|572|N|Back at Grom’gol|
A Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 3) |N|Get the follow up. | |QID|571|
Oh well, I guess I’ll have these done by then 🙂
Likewise, some NPCs moveLikewise, some NPCs move around so Lightheaded sometimes gives the wrong coordinates. In these cases you need to remove the quest ID and manually input the correct coords.
While most quests do notWhile most quests do not need coords for the quest givers, there are some quests that are received from objects such as signs, outhouses, or any of the other inanimate objects in the game world. These do not have coords recorded for them in Lightheaded, if you find any of these that do not have coords please do post them
While testing is alwaysWhile testing is always welcome and useful, we don’t really *need* coordinates added for all questgivers because Lightheaded does the job for us. So I wouldn’t waste the time if I were you. It would be better to just test the other facets of the guide – make sure coords are always provided when doing quests, for example.
Well ill tryI started using the add on today and started with your badlands guide.
I’ve decided to undertake the testing on it and i will try to add coords to all the questgivers.
Im not sure if i understand syntax yet 😕
but wish me luck!! 🙂
Thanks very much Skully,Thanks very much Skully, I’ll look into this when I have time. As I recall, this section was kind of a mess when I started revamping it, and it was also one of the first sections I edited so I was still learning 😉
Hope you can come back to WoW soon!
[WoW-Pro | Jame’s 41-51] Swamp of Sorrows (41)Hey guys, something seems to be mixed up in this guide and the previous ones…
In 002_38_39_Jame_Stranglethorn_Vale.lua you are e.g. told to Accept, Finish and Turn in the quest Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 1):
Line 6: A Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 1)|QID|570|
Line 11: C Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 1)|QID|570|
Line 38: T Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 1)|QID|570|
Then I am told to take the follow up:
Line 39: A Mok’thardin’s Enchantment (Part 2)|QID|572|
The next time this quest is ever mentioned is in the file 002_41b_Jame_ Swamp_of_Sorrows.lua:
Line 5: A Mok’thardin’s Enchantment |N| (31.13, 29.24)| |L|3862 1| |QID|571|
Nowhere in the guide files in between you are ever told to do the objectives or hand in part 2 of the quest line before accepting part 3. Not to mention that the “(Part 3)” part is missing in the A command 🙂
Unfortunately I do not have the time for WoW anymore and have therefore cancelled my subscription. So I will be off of WoW in 2 days 🙁 Still I will continue to watch the progress and thank you all for putting so much effort in this project! Good luck!
Horde Nagrand Update!Hey folks!
Made some very minimal changes and corrections to the Horde Nagrand addon file. Like all the Outland guides, it was already very high quality so only small changes were needed, and as such I’ve given it it’s first quality star. It is now available for download here.
Enjoy!
Big updates to come, real soon!
The other reason is, usersThe other reason is, users don’t always go directly from one step to the next. Sometimes they deviate from the guide, to quest with a friend, do an instance, or a group quest. If zone tags aren’t used, they will get incorrect coordinates.
Hmm, the zone name formatHmm, the zone name format used in your file is wrong:
Hellfire Peninsula (WoW-Pro | Jame’s 60-62)
It should be:
[WoW-Pro | Jame’s] Hellfire Peninsula (60-62)
That’s the naming format we’ve been using since January now, which makes me a little worried about the version of the file you used to make your revamp. You might have based your work on a file which was outdated and therefore probably missed a lot of fixes which had already been made.
So please from now on, before you start working on a section, download the latest version!
Now I’m gonna have to cross check your version and the current one to see if any of the previous fixes are missing, and that’s a lot of work :/
Yes, but I can’t used themYes, but I can’t used them in their current form. All the zone names (and consequently, coordinates are also screwed) are wrong because you bunched everything in one single file for each chapter 🙁
Please check your private messages.
Mucho awesome!Mucho awesome!
That’s not exactly true. That’s not exactly true. Tourguide will default to the current zone ONLY if the zone title you put in the file is erroneous, and it will give an error message everytime a new step contains a note with coordinates.
On the other hand, if you put the zone name properly at the start of the file, all the coords will point you to that zone, even if you are on the other side of the universe.
Conclusion:
1. Put in the correct zone name in the file at the start.
2. When we move to another zone, make a new file with the correct zone name again.
3. However, if you only have to do a few steps in another zone, use zone tags, there’s no need to create an extra file just for a few steps.
Example: Let’s say you are writing the addon for a big questing section in Duskwood, but a few steps make you go to Westfall to complete only 1 or 2 quests and then make you hearth to stormwind to train new skills and turn one quest in, before going back to Duskwood to resume questing. How many files will you need?
Just one in that case. Use Duskwood as zone name and add zone tags for Westfall and Stormwind to the corresponding steps.
FileFront is still up!!FileFront is still up!!
It was recently reacquired from the original owners of the site and will not be shut down!!!

Revamp! Hellfire Penninsula!Just finished the revamp of Hellfire on my mage and already started on the Zangarmarsh revamp. The new guide can be found at: http://www.mediafire.com/?xfazeum5xub
Cool!Cool!
Non-Leveling GuidesI’m currently running through the netherdrake/netherwing guide so I can get one of those cool netherdrakes 8) as well as achievements.
I’m going to make an addon version of this guide as I think that it would be well suited for the addon.
UPDATE! Horde TerokkarI’ve completed updates for the Horde Terokkar section. Again, I made a few minor updates and added a couple coords, but it was already very high quality. I’m giving it’s second quality star.
An addition I made – I created two separate files, one for Aldor and one for Scryer. The difference is not great in this guide, but I plan to follow this template for later guides (namely, the Netherstorm guide). If you choose to play the scryer version, you MUST also download the updated guide file. All three files (both guides and the guides.xml file) are contained in the zip, linked above and here.
Enjoy!
You should put some kind ofYou should put some kind of note to that effect after someone posts, I got confused too >_<
It did work, it just was inIt did work, it just was in a moderation queue 😉 Because we already had some name abusing and some advertising and mysterious links 😀
Bloodelf starterI just finished the guide with what i think is the latest version. It’s nice except the following:
Defending Morningbreeze should be taken later. You are told to accept it and then run back to the camp where you come from, afterwards you cross the quest giver again.
You should first finish the quests in the northeast (we are told to accept them (Willythen and the spire) and then go to silvermoon, just to return and finish them later) befor going to silvermoon.
the |Z|-Tag is missing for the Silvermoon steps
You should first kill witherbark the old and do the follow up quest for that while killing the other treants while doing that. Otherwise you end up killing more treants than you need and spending more time than you need.
I got the version from 1. of april.
(Adding class quests would be nice too ^^)
btw: i tried to enter that into the bug page for the guide but it didnt seem to work o0
Huh, I guess I should haveHuh, I guess I should have realized this. Well poo. Ignore all my silly comments then!
I have heard complaints of things pointing to the wrong place though, specifically for this section, so it’s probably best to include them. Just not as crucial as I made it out to be 😛
Also, I did well enough to pass, and that’s good enough for me 😉
LOL. I suddlenly rememberLOL. I suddlenly remember why I manage software testers and am not one; so I can be the one to write correspondence in all caps 😉
I will turn to the piece de resistance of any good tester ‘Huh? Works on my pc.’ …it does, I ran twice in testing.
FYI, as I’m sure you are aware, if the zone and the title do not match, Tourguide will default to the current zone. Because |Z| is hardly mentioned on the syntaz page, and, in the original 21-31 .lua files, was never even used. I did not use it either. Instead, I followed the written guide to a tee and pointed the user to the right zone via coord. Agian, this worked spledidly for me, but I knew what to expect. Obviously there is a way to break it.
No big deal. It’s your show. I”M JUST HERE TO PARTY!
BTW hope you rocked ur finals 🙂
—-DAVE
yeah, CAPTAIN CAPSLOCKyeah, CAPTAIN CAPSLOCK 😀
USE OF ZONE TAG!I am currently working on the Horde 21-31 guide, and the zone tag is not used AT ALL in this guide. This means all the coordinates that were put in that are not in the main zone point to the COMPLETELY WRONG PLACE!
You ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO use this tag when you are talking about a zone that is not the main “title zone” of the lua file you are working on. It makes all your hard work getting those coords useless to the user! Luckily it’s not hard at all to add after the fact, and I’m taking care of the 21-31 guide now, but please in the future use this tag!
EDIT: Also I didn’t mean to sound harsh, I made this mistake at first too. I just wanted to stress how important it was 😉
Snowflake GhostlandsI made a very small change to the Ghostlands guide, at the end, to help transition into the Barrens guide. The download is linked above and also here.
Done! And no probDone! And no prob 🙂
