This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Leveling Guides into TourGuide Format, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.
Before you sign in for testing, revamping or writing a guide for the AddOn you should read the following two pages:
Now that you know what to do, you can take a look at the overview lists for the two factions. It might look a bit confusing on first sight but it’s really easy:
In the Status column you can see what the current status of every guide is:
N/A | The guide has not been written yet (not available) |
Testing | The guide has been written but not been tested by anyone but the author. |
Improvements | The guide has been written and tested, but it needs improvements. Numbers behind the status will forward you to posts with information on the needed improvements. |
Quality | The guide has been tested, revamped and has a very good quality. The stars indicate how well the guide has been tested. A quality guide with one star has only been tested by one person so there might still be some flaws. |
Now that you’re informed about what needs to be done, you have to look at the Progress column if the guide is already in work.
A indicates that there is no one working on this guide at the moment, so feel free to do it!
A tells you that there is someone working on that guide, if you click on the icon you will be redirected to the editors user-page.
Before you start editing a guide you should look if there are some edited files that are not included in the AddOn by default.
If the download arrow is green it means that there are files to download. Just click the arrow to download them. Put those files into the folder of the according Guide Package AddOn.
The little lamp will redirect you to a section on the “Mistakes” page. There you can see a list of known mistakes in the guide. You should take a look at this list even if the guide is not marked for Improvements!
If you found a guide that suits you and no one else is working at, you can either write a comment so that someone can add you to the list, or you can try to add yourself.
Please give us an update every week (at least) by changing the Last Updated column and giving some information about your progress in the Progress column so that everyone who wants to know can check how far you are. If we don’t hear from you in over a week, and someone else wants to take over revising/writing that section of the guide, it’s fair game! This way parts of the guide won’t be left unfinished.
If you’ve finished your part add a link to the file you edited in the Progress column and leave a comment!
The Tauren Starter and the
Horde:
The Tauren Starter and the horde DK guide downloads should also be taken down, as they are exactly the same as the files we already had in the previous version.
Alliance:
Should take down the downloads for the 40-50 and 50-60 files. They simply can’t be used in their current form.
ps: thanks for doing this Ji! <3
Barrens Guide UpdateI’m going to remove the old download links for stuff that was released in the new guide. However, I did just make a few minor updates to the Barrens guide, so download the new file if you are using that one!
NOTE: I only removed links for the guides Jame expressly stated had been included in the new version. Jame, let me know if the other guides with download links are included, and I’ll remove those links.
If you need to access the old links, the old version of this page can be found here.
I’ll be backI’ll be back looking for bugs at a time, my goal will be to have 10 chars above 70, maybe at 80, atm I have 5. Especially now when Blizzard don’t give us new contend for ages, I get bored easily and I tend to play on my alts 🙂
Well maybe I will!Well maybe I will! 😛 😉
But I’m too lazy to add it!But I’m too lazy to add it!

Thanks to the whole community, and especially to Jiyambi for the huge efforts on the horde side!
To upload groups of guides,To upload groups of guides, use a zip or rar file to put all the guide files in one folder. Just thought I’d mention that in case that was the reason someone grouped them all like that.
Hey guys, sorry for my lackHey guys, sorry for my lack of activity, I’ve been very busy with RL stuff. But I’m back now, so I’m going to catch up on everything and upload a new version of the addon tonight!
ps: There’s a problem with the 40-50 and 50-60 alliance files someone uploaded (sorry I’m not sure who did). All the zones are grouped together into one single .lua file for 40-50 and same thing for 50-60.
This is not good. We must split the guide by zones for several reasons
1. The file becomes too big and can create problems when loading
2. The longer the file, the harder it is for someone to jump in the guide midway.
3. TomTom requires the proper zone name in each .lua or it will give wrong coords in many cases.
Anyway, in the current version of the addon, the zones are properly split up, so if you are going to work on a section, don’t change that, don’t group them up into one big .lua, you will be wasting all the work you put on the files if you do that. Only change what’s inside the .luas
Oh and also, please don’t change the name of the files, unless you see a mistake in the zone name. And if you do, mention it to me because I’ll have to fix the mistake in the .xml file as well.
Thank you!
Eh, it’s still worthEh, it’s still worth mentioning that there might be crates down there. When I tested it, I didn’t go down there and just went to the ruins and couldn’t find enough crates, it took me forever to complete the quest because I was waiting for crates to respawn.
Thanks Lars! Once duel-specThanks Lars! Once duel-spec comes out, I suggest you go back and do the Northrend quests for monies 😉 and these guides still rock for that!
Hah, that’s fine. Have funHah, that’s fine. Have fun with whatever you are doing in RL!
Well, yes and no. The questsWell, yes and no. The quests are random spawns, they don’t always appear at the same locations, so that would just be misleading 😛
Bye guysRight, I’m now lvl 70, and going Northrend as resto, which, in my head, means that I will not be questing to level up mainly.
I’ve only been here a short while, but leveled from mid 30-ies to now 70, and I must say, I’ve really enjoyed it this time. I’ll use these guides for sure, when I’m leveling up my next character.
Keep up the good work 😉
Best Regards
Lars
FiguresSo, now that I’ve quasi-volunteered to do this real life is forcing me off of wow for awhile, if not for the long haul. Good luck with it.
Thanks Tz, can you listThanks Tz, can you list examples of the coords that are off? I took the time to validate each against Wow-head and Wow-DB, I’d love to correct ’em.
Can I ask a question, why “annoying” for the use of Kill quests? I’m genuinely curious. The genesis for these came from this line in Jame’s syntax guidelines:
“Anytime you can provide an arrow for the player to follow, it greatly improves the guide. Rather than making them read a huge block of text as directions, just have them ‘follow the arrows’ and list a series of coordinates…”
So, bearing this in mind, a couple of questions for my improvement:
* where the kill quests in bad order?
* did you ever have to go to a dual monitor to complete a segment?
* I’m assuming you have run these quests a million times, so from your experience, do you prefer to see one line and done?
* Do you ever need to hover over a quest to read its instructions/notes?
If the kill quests are slowing the guide down, they should be removed. It seemed logical to me that they would speed things up.
Thanks a bunch for the input.

Wait, isn’t there already aI was planning to write any unwritten guides as I cam across them. My test character is in Terokkar now, so it wouldn’t be too long from now. However if you would rather do it that’s okay too.
AgreeWell I think it being one of Jame’s guides, and it being listed above, that should be two good reasons why the addon version of it should exist 🙂 So go for it!
Horde Blade’s EdgeI was wondering if there was any interest in this guide actually being written up in addon form. I know I would like it, and would be willing to at least do an initial write up, but it only seems worth while if I’m not the only one.
Hey guys
Just completedHey guys
Just completed Terokkar Forrest on my druid. Overall I think it was great. I did not put in notice of any things which needed change. But it went quite fast as well.
So far Nagrand is looking good too.
I couldn’t get ahold ofI couldn’t get ahold of Hosho, so I went ahead and ran through the Barrens guide, the updated file is linked for download. It’s not perfect yet though and needs more testing.
I’ve messaged FreeDave and I’m hoping he’ll be done with 21-31 soon so I can speed test it, but at the moment no I’m not working on it.
For the quality stars: I agree, we need to be more clear. Right now, basically just leave a comment if you feel the guide deserves a star. This means you have run the most recent version and had extremely minimal issues, which you fixed, or no issues – it flows nicely, there are no spelling/language mistakes, and overall it’s something that WoW-Pro should be proud to show to the public.
I’ll see about writing a more specific definition for the stars in a bit, with input from the other moderators and of course Jame 🙂
Maybe we could use the bugMaybe we could use the bug report page not only for bugs but also for any other test runs. I don’t see any of the guides receiving (further) stars, although they are there for quite some time. Maybe clearing up the conditions under which the stars are given would help as well. I just think it’s time that some guides get their green hook ^^. It would make it more clear which guides still need work.
I just think there’s a lack of feedback currently.
Another question: Is Hosho still working on his Barrens guide? There’s no one listed for working on this. And instead of Jiyambi, Freedave is listed for 21-31. But as long as someone’s working on it it’s fine ^^
Alliance – Howling Fjord errorsI added a couple in the link, but when I went back to the page, nothing was there.
Can you check to see if the error is there for me?
James
Edit: I checked this morning and they’re there now.
Horde Levelling Guide Hinterlands (48-50)Very good work here – just wanted to add a little feedback.
Skull Rock. I think it is worth mentioning the cave under skull rock as it has 3 horde supply crates in it.
Agol’watha. Might be worth mentioning the crates are hidden a bit behind stone tablet/wall things and they should clear to the back.
After the Jintha’alor circuit there is a suicide run to the bottom. I find it is easier to clear the two guards from the tunnel leading to sharpebeake and then go through it, and jump down carefully, healing as necessary and then ride out. It is much safer!
Thanks for this – it’s wonderful!

Hellfire: The Foot of the CitadelHey again
I’m now lvl 63 on my druid. Going really fast with these guides 🙂 I saw a little author’s note in the Hellfire quest “The foot of the Citadel” saying that the quest is very difficult to solo: a DK might be able to easy, but not confirmed.
I can now confirm, to who ever put in that note: it is easily soloable by a 63 feral druid 🙂 using bear form only, did it when I thought I might as well try it before going Zangarmarsh.
—
What I did was: Hotting up, rooting 1 add –> bear form, then killing the other add. Then nature’s grasp the Elite guy (away from the rooted add) then charge up to the add and kill it. Afterwards if was basicly just using CD’s and made sure i had enough rage for my frenzied regeneration to heal me.

Snowflake’s Blood Elf Starter (1-12)Hey it’s me again, and I’m still online it seems. Anyhow, I’ve used the time to complete testing the Snowflake’s Blood Elf Starter guide and done some last changes. I’ve uploaded the most current version to my new Google Site: File download. Please test 🙂
I figured I spelled itI figured I spelled it wrong, but I wasn’t sure where to put the h 😉
Very unimportant, but hisVery unimportant, but his name is in fact “Khadgar”, not “Kadgar” 😉
Aldor vs Scryer updateWhoever was walking about the reps being disadvantaged if you were a draenei going Scryer was incorrect. Once you do the little quest for Kadgar, your rep goes to neutral with the factions of your choice (though not friendly, so this does make it harder to get the exalted rep but shouldn’t matter for quests).
I am updating the rest of the Outland guide to include a version for both factions.
Horde Zangarmarsh RevisedI just finished revising the Horde Zangarmarsh guide, the updated file is here. Very very little was changed, just adding a few more coordinates and making some more accurate where I though it would be useful to do so, and adding a few more use actions. Star of quality number 2!
Alliance DragonblightI’m working my Death Knight through one of the 2 Dragonblight guides posted here, can’t remember which. Does anyone know if Rob is still working on his version?
School was canceled today (and I work at the school) due to blizzard (not the company) conditions, so I spent the day getting my Priest through the rest of Icecrown. I went back and used the Dragonblight guide with my Death Knight. I’m about 50% through and should get through the rest of the guide tomorrow, barring “honey-do’s.”
Just curious what we need to do.
James
okay even betterokay even better 🙂
Snowflake_Blood_Elf_StarterHey folks, I have uploaded the revised version of Snowflake’s Blood Elf Starter guide which I have tested to only 85%. I fear that I will be offline for two weeks now and didn’t want you guys to wait. It should be of high quality, but still needs testing. Cheers
Eh, I think we’ll just addEh, I think we’ll just add the lead-in stuff in the 10-20 guides, since it’s pretty much assumed the user is going to Jame’s guide afterward.
Nice. Up to making theNice. Up to making the transition i was 15 minutes in level 21 and already 30-40% in that level, i think i could have made that level up with only 45 minutes played or even less, if the transition wasn’t so rough.
I’d suggest taking more care of the origin one comes from. Maybe you can do different versions of a .lua that only goes as far as you need until the guides are the same again and then let the barrens/silverpine/ghostlands guide each point to its own .lua. So the user doesn’t have to click half of the steps away.
You would make a Guide named [WoW-Pro | Barrens to Jame’s 21-31] Stonetalon Mountains (21-21) and include it like this:
TourGuide:RegisterGuide(“[WoW-Pro | Hosho’s] The Barrens (12-20)”, “[WoW-Pro | Barrens to Jame’s 21-31] Stonetalon Mountains (21-21)”, “Horde”, function()
return [[
or something similar.
Oooo thanks for the input! IOooo thanks for the input! I am planning on doing a revamp of the 21-31 guide next, I’ll use this advice to make a smoother transition between Hosho’s guide and the 21-31 guide. Just waiting on Dave to be done with his revisions so I can’t start hacking it apart 😉
Hosho + Jame 21-31I just completed the barrens guide. It was good, nice leveling speed. It’s getting revamped anyway but i found it quite good already. You just should pick up goblin invadors when you pick up avenge my village, because then you can directly fly to sunrock retreat after finishing the barrens. this way you have to walk, because you have to pick that quest up :jawdrop:
Jame 21-31 really need work. Some of the coords are of and what’s realy annoying is the use of kill objectives for EVERY quest even though there’s absolutely NO need for them, because the complete objective would do the job perfectly.
Then we fly to Splinter Tree to turn in one single quest over zoramgar, then back to zoramgar and then port to OG. Wouldn’t it be better to just do the stuff in zoramgar, fly to splintertree and then port? 😕
Levelingspeed: Using a hunter with nearly no rested XP it took me 11.5 hours to reach level 21.5 and finish the barrensguide. Took around 50 minutes per level in the barrens.
Thanks for the heads upThanks for the heads up Gethe. For those who were uploading there, I suggest Google Sites as an alternative, very easy to use and also free.
FileFront is closing upFileFront is closing up shop. If you have anything loaded up there that you want to keep I suggest you get it before they are gone on March 30. FileFront Farewell
Horde Hellfire Peninsula Tested!Hey folks, I just finished testing the Horde Hellfire Peninsula guide. I only added a few very minor things, such as coordinates for flight masters. I reworked one or two quests to flow a little more smoothly, but it was already at a very high quality and my changes were basically superficial. I would like to award it it’s second star of quality!
I’m moving on to the Zangarmarsh guide now with my pally – who is already level 65!
Gasp! I never knew aboutGasp! I never knew about that Paladin trainer!
But I’m a JC anyways so I always just went to Silvermoon.
Thanks very much Gethe, I will fix these errors sometime today and upload them 🙂
Alliance 50-60, and 40-50The alliance 50-60 has many important changes too many to count actually, the quality should be great, as there are no more errors and it should be up to Jame’s standards, and for the 40-50 I just fixed a few errors.
Alliance 50-60: http://files.filefront.com/000+50+60+Jamelua/;13518262;/fileinfo.html
Alliance 40-50:

Now to go work on to 60-65 guides for alliance 😀
Shinke’s Tauren Starter (1-12) UpdateHi,
Last update today i think. I improved the way i implemented the optional quest. I will stop working on the addon now, as I think there are no further mistakes. If there are, I can take care of it, or someone else can. I don’t mind.
glitchesAs i was poking around in the code (i’m nosy 😉 ) I noticed a couple things:
1 The optional silithus guide points to itself rather than outland when finished
2 There is a paladin trainer in UC next to Sylvanas, so you don’t have to go to the SMC trainer.
Aside from those it looks good as far as I can tell, great job 8)
Dragonblight 74-75Looks like Rob is only a level 20 Pally and not able to test his guide. not sure it has been written since its not in this list. so i worked on and made it myself. i don’t care about credit for it one way or another i would just like it tested and see it in the mod so here is a link. yes i played it once. if you dont like it please feel free to edit it how you want.
http://files.filefront.com/002+74+75+Dragonblightlua/;13512980;/fileinfo.html
Alliance 50-60, and 40-50Sometime tommorrow I plan to release the tested and revised version of 50-60 with alot of important changes to it and a high quality and I will be releasing the 40-50 guide with some error fixes.
I think you may have had theI think you may have had the misfortune to be the top post on this page when the troll who made that comment did it – they probably saw your name and used it. No worries, I figured it probably wasn’t you since you’d just been so polite in your previous post 😉
Yeah, all kill on sightYeah, all kill on sight notices should be clicked off after you read them. Perhaps I should make that clearer somewhere.
It was not. Dunno if youIt was not. Dunno if you believe me, but i can only give you my word (text 😕 ) because tbh, I did not even know that the mistakes page was there. If someone use “lars” again, please send me a notice, so I will create a new account for this website.
In Un’Goro 55-56 it saysIn Un’Goro 55-56 it says kill on sight all oozes ‘Kill on sight’, am I supposed to tick that or should it do that itself?
So far the guide is going great!
Someone (probably ) usedSomeone (probably ;)) used your name on the new mistaes reporting page to pick on Shinkes Tauren guide. If it wasn’t you, you can keep your name. 😉
