You are currently viewing a Wiki Page. It can be edited by anyone who is currently logged in. Before you change anything, please make sure to read our FAQ, the editing guidelines of this post as well as its comments.

This wiki page will help us track who has volunteered to help translate sections of Jame’s Leveling Guides into TourGuide Format, so that we can finally publish an addon that will enable people following Jame’s Guide to do so without alt-tabbing.

Read Me!

Before you sign in for testing, revamping or writing a guide for the AddOn you should read the following two pages:

Now that you know what to do, you can take a look at the overview lists for the two factions. It might look a bit confusing on first sight but it’s really easy:

In the Status column you can see what the current status of every guide is:

N/A The guide has not been written yet (not available)
Testing The guide has been written but not been tested by anyone but the author.
Improvements The guide has been written and tested, but it needs improvements. Numbers behind the status will forward you to posts with information on the needed improvements.
Quality The guide has been tested, revamped and has a very good quality. The stars indicate how well the guide has been tested. A quality guide with one star has only been tested by one person so there might still be some flaws.

Now that you’re informed about what needs to be done, you have to look at the Progress column if the guide is already in work.

A indicates that there is no one working on this guide at the moment, so feel free to do it!

A tells you that there is someone working on that guide, if you click on the icon you will be redirected to the editors user-page.

Before you start editing a guide you should look if there are some edited files that are not included in the AddOn by default.

If the download arrow is green it means that there are files to download. Just click the arrow to download them. Put those files into the folder of the according Guide Package AddOn.

The little lamp will redirect you to a section on the “Mistakes” page. There you can see a list of known mistakes in the guide. You should take a look at this list even if the guide is not marked for Improvements!

If you found a guide that suits you and no one else is working at, you can either write a comment so that someone can add you to the list, or you can try to add yourself.

Please give us an update every week (at least) by changing the Last Updated column and giving some information about your progress in the Progress column so that everyone who wants to know can check how far you are. If we don’t hear from you in over a week, and someone else wants to take over revising/writing that section of the guide, it’s fair game! This way parts of the guide won’t be left unfinished.

If you’ve finished your part add a link to the file you edited in the Progress column and leave a comment!

    Testing of Snowflakes Blood Elf Levelin guide (DONE)I just finished my testing.

    I found a minor issue which i asked skully to change.

    The leveling time was quite nice, specially if you think about i lvl’ed up both Cooking, Tailoring and enchanting.

    It took me exactly 3 hours 30 minutes. Read more at http://belftale.blogspot.com/

    Snowflake’s Blood Elf Starter (1-12) ProgressI am making progress in testing and revising of this guide. I have completed roughly 65% of the guide now and should have already made many cosmetic changes. Additionally I have fixed several small bugs/mistakes and improved the flow in one situation (thanks to Hurjo for pointing this out).

    I have added a download to the current file version.
    Please continue testing with that version of the file.

    I have now played throughI have now played through the Orc/Troll 1-12 guide with all Orc classes (Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman & Warlock).

    It worked well, nothing really to report over what I have already posted.

    As I see it the following still needs to be done before it can be classed as ready:
    – Testing for Mage and Priest.
    – Adding the continuation of the Rogue, Warrior and Shaman class quest chains to the Barrens guide.

    Revised 21-31 Horde nowRevised 21-31 Horde now available.

    The changes are mostly Superficial.

    * changed download loaction and file name
    * changed zone/level descriptions to match Jiyabmi’s format
    * tested to be sure link to 31-41 functions properly
    * re-tested links between all 21-31 guides

    Still needs to be done:
    * combine/correct/create better notes from the previous AddOn and written guides

    Thanks everyone,

    Revised Horde Feralas 51-52I revised the Horde Feralas lvl 51-52 part of the guide. The updated file can be found here. I’m not really sure the “Again with the Zapped Giants” part works correctly, but I tweaked it and I *think* it will work.

    I’m writing the next section now.

    I havent played longer thanI havent played longer than lvl 8 yet (around 50%) and the only annoyinig so far is when you forget to ”tick off” the non-auto steps, but you quickly lerans to remember.

    Also i must say that Jiyambi and Jame inspired me quite alot with their blogs, and i decided to make one myself 😀
    Feel free to check it out at http://belftale.blogspot.com/
    Its probably not as well written as the others… Probably because im a student in Denmark 😛

    The blog is called Tales of a Belf. It’s not really a ”tale” but i think it sounds cool 😛

    Difficult bitShinke, I’ve gotta say the guide is really good. However when you send us into the mine at level 8, that is really early and very difficult at that level. Though I am pretty experienced with playing a hunter I found it very difficult, especially because of the rather quick respawns. Might it not be better to send us to do that quest one or two levels later on? Maybe you could re-arrange it a bit. I am level 12 and roughly 80% to level 13 at the end of the guide anyways.

    Mar 9, 2009 @ 4:08 am

  • img

    Hmm

    I wonder if theHmm 😕

    I wonder if the wrong file is linked. The file I show is named “Jame_Horde_31_41_Changed_Files.zip”. It contains:

    * 002_35_37_Jame_Arathi_Highlands.lua
    * 002_37_38_Jame_Desolace.lua
    * 002_38_39_Jame_Stranglethorn_Vale.lua
    * 002_39_40_Jame_Dustwallow_Marsh.lua
    * 002_40_41_Jame_Arathi_Highlands.lua
    * 002_41_41_Jame_Badlands.lua

    Another good possibility is that I’m missing the boat here. 😉 I do see all of the files listed in Horde download file. However, the file dates are all 2/16/2009. Are those correct and the above files are just updates?

    Lemme know. Rock on. 8)

    My mage is level 47 atm, and will soon be done with the 41-51 guide 🙂

    As soon as it’s done with it, I’ll be waiting for your addon version to come out, and I’ll check for every mistake there is,

    Then maybe it can get a Quality star 😉

  • img
    Mar 8, 2009 @ 4:01 am

    Couple SuggestionsThanks for the updates! I’ll be at level 35 in a couple days, so I’ll test them out soon. Just a couple suggestions:

    – Notes for levels: Could you add notes for when you’re supposed to level? I find them very reassuring that I’m doing things correctly, or when I find I need to do some grinding before heading elsewhere.

    – 32_33_Thousand_Needles_Jame_3141.lua: I’m not sure if I have the latest version of this file, but the version I have has one Note called “Things to know” and no notes on each quest. If you’re also updating this file, could you take out the one Note and add notes to each quest? Jame’s guide has a specific path he recommends following and it would be nice to have TourGuide mirror that.

  • img
    Mar 8, 2009 @ 1:05 am

    Thanks for pointing out toThanks for pointing out to me how to do that ^^

    I was going to implement it. I already had uploaded an updated file, before you changed the link and now i noticed that. I changed the link back, your additions are included. I added this feature to the Dwarven Digging Quest as well. I didn’t do the druid quest, but if i remember right you had to use something to summon the last enemy, too. I will figure that out soon and then add it to the file. I also fixed the Thunder Bluff coordinates and added a line that tells you to go to the next step to all non-autocompleting objectives.

    It’s nice you already did some testing. Please try to use my updated file for the rest of the guide and keep me informed about how it’s going. Just write me a PM or post a comment here.

    Shinke’s Tauren Starter (1-12) UpdateHey, I managed to upload the .lua now finally. 🙂

    I still got something to do though. Some of the coordinates in Thunder Bluff get displayed wrong and one or two other things. And I wanted to add a line to objectives that don’t auto complete.

    Cleaned up.

    – Please don’tCleaned up.

    – Please don’t use the icon. It’s only for three star Quality guide, to indicate that there is absoultely no work needed on it.

    – If you’ve finished a work you don’t have to put that into the Status column. Just remove yourself so that other people can continue to test or work on that guide. The green download arrow is enough to indicate an update on the guide, as they will be removed after an update of the “.zip” files…

    Horde 51-60 GuideHey folks,

    I’ve decided to take on writing the 51-60 addon guide for Horde. I noted it in the table, but wanted to post here just to be clear and so that we don’t have people overlapping their work.

    I’ll be busy this week, but plan to get it done pretty quickly once I’m done with finals! 🙂

    Horde 41-51 UPDATEHey folks,

    I just finished testing and doing a massive revamp on the Horde 41-51 section. It’s far from perfect, but also much better than it was. This shouldn’t receive the “quality” sticker just yet, but it’s definitely play-able now and shouldn’t have any major problems. Most remaining issues are stylistic and will be fixed slowly as folks play it through.

    The file can be downloaded here, is linked in the table above, and will be part of the next addon release.

    Seems to be trueThat seems to be true, as there are no guide files available in the addon folder for that level range either! :jawdrop:

    There comes 002_51_52_Jame_Feralas.lua, and next up is 002_60_63_Jame_Hellfire_Peninsula.lua 🙁

    Surprising nobody noticed that before…

    Would be great if you were willing to work on that section! 🙂

  • img
    Mar 7, 2009 @ 4:17 am

    It really depends. If it’sIt really depends. If it’s something the player will *probably* be killing anyway, and not something that needs a forceful reminder, I just add it as a mouse-over note along with whatever quest objectives they are completing while killing. Then at the end I leave a “complete killing quest” note with a mouseover saying “kill whatevers until you complete killing quest”.

    However, I think I know the notes you are talking about – when Jame puts a special warning saying “Kill on sight” and has a list of mobs, which are killed throughout a large quest circuit. For those notices, I think I would make a “Kill on sight” or “Things to do” note tag that the user has to manually click off when he or she reads it.

    IMPOTRANT: 52-60 guide not written?Does anyone have any information about the 52-60 Horde guide (for the addon)?

    Valtimus just finished testing the 51-52 section, available here. He has implied that the 52-60 section has not been written yet.

    I just want to make sure this is the case. If it is, I would be very happy to take on writing this part of the addon guide, since my pally is just coming in to this level range. If you know anything about this, please post ASAP. Thanks!

    Hiya Dave!

    We want toHiya Dave!

    We want to minimize the number of note tags as much as possible, because we want the guide to auto complete whenever possible. Use a note tag when advising people to look for multiple quest completion items as they go, or for important warnings that must be read before doing a quest (such as for a difficult escort quest). Otherwise, whenever possible, just use the mouse-over text to convey information.

    Mar 7, 2009 @ 1:49 am

    Thank you freastro. I agreeThank you freastro. I agree and appreciate your suggestions.

    I did my best to incorporate as much from Jame’s original guide as possible. Also, I mostly used the written guides for guidance. I plan to go back and incorporate both the written and previous AddOn notes into a next revision.

    Also, a question for you: When going through the guide, did you prefer to have a “Note” tag ahead of certain quests, or was it ok to mouse-over the quest for notes?

    I used a mixture of both where it seemed appropriate. I’m curious, from a game-play point of view, which was notation system most helpful.

    Thanks,

    74-75 DragonblightI’m not playing wow anymore, but I thought I’d let you all have chance to make use of this guide I formatted for myself. It features all of Jame’s notes and a few added coordinates to help make finding objectives easier. I’ve played through this once making a few corrections as I go so it’s probably far from perfect. Whoever is working on this guide can free to use this however it would be of help (I noticed the link for the individual working on this guide is broken).

    (I’m not sure how long i will be able to leave this file on the server it’s on) -just fyi 😉

    TG Horde – ZangarmarshI just completed the Tour Guide Horde Version for Zangarmarsh and I found the following things that I think should be addressed.

    1 – A Note may want to be added to “Report to Shadow Hunter Denjai” to say that he is above the inn. Just for clarity and to stop those like me who are a bit slow.

    2 – At Swamprat Post: After picking up the quest “Nothin’ Says Lovin’ Like a Big Stinger” add the turn in for “Withered Bastridium”

    3 – After turning in “Saving the Sporeloks”, can a note to turn in more of the plant parts for “Identify Plant Parts” as a reminder to get them out of you bag? The only other place may be right before the end of the guide where is says to fly to “Shattrath”.

    4 – After completing “Us or Them”, the next step is to hearth to Zabrajin. I still had 22 minutes left on the CD. I just ran to Zabrajin. Took about 2 minutes.

    5 – For the turn in of “Now That We’re Friends…”, there is no arrow/directions from TomTom or TG (not sure which actually places the waypoint). Also, the tag does not auto complete when the quest is turned in.

    6 – Lastly, following this guide I completed the achievement “Mysteries of the Marsh”.

    On to Shattrath and Terrokar Forest :>

    Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (31-41)Hey everyone, I have just finished revising Jame’s Horde Leveling Guide (31-41). I have made changes in a total of six files, from level 35 onwards. Before that were no fixes required.

    Now test away 🙂

    Thanks! Once I get to thatThanks! Once I get to that point, I plan to put all class quests into the guide. I’ve done that in the troll/orc starting area, but I’m waiting to continue to the barrens and onward until Hosho revises his guide. However I’m considering running an undead character through or something so that I can move on to the next section.
