I love your addon. I’veI love your addon. I’ve been using it since I started my death Knight and LOVE IT. I’m in Grizzly hills now and notice that it’s not quite polished as the others. While doing the Take their Rear there was no cords just a description to go look for them east. There are a large collection of Bears at 29, 56.
    Hope that helps

    Hi Jiyambi.

    Your level 60Hi Jiyambi.

Your level 60 optional circuits are present – it’s just that the files are not named as expected (the files are named “003_…”). But they are present 🙂

Thanks for adding back the default guidesThanks for re-adding the default guides. I seem to be spending a lot of time in areas that don’t have a Jame’s guide, and have been disabling the wow-pro guide quite often as a result. I had just gotten a friend to start using Jame’s guide as well (he hated alt-tabbing so didn’t use the old version) and now he’s off to areas that don’t have Jame’s guides as well.

Most Recent Horde VersionJame, it looks like some files didn’t make it into the most recent Horde Version. Specifically:

The Hellfire Peninsula files seem to be a bit screwed up. One is labeled 60-62 and one is 62-63. I see that that these are the files I originally had labeled 60-63 and 60-63 part 2. There was a reason for this, the part 2 section was for those who went to Outland at 58, it was not intended for everyone to do after the “normal” 60-63 section. This will definitely show the wrong behavior and confuse users, please fix it ASAP. My files can be downloaded at my google site still if you need them, as far as I have tested, they show the correct behavior. If you don’t like the way it’s set up, that’s cool, but we’ll need to talk about how to fix it, since it’s currently broken.

Looks like you did a lot of renaming for the 51-61 files, and that’s fine, I’ll stick to that convention in the future (there were some in the 41-51 section named with just one level and they worked fine, so I figured that was okay, everything worked okay with that naming convention but I’ll keep it with two levels if you like in the future).

You seem to have left out the after 60 optional circuit. Was there a reason for this? It works great, I tested it all with Deedlet. If you would like the files, they are also still on my google site. Hope you add them in, don’t want my hard work to go to waste!
Sorry I didn’t bring this up sooner, only just noticed it!

MisspellingWhen using your Alliance guide, the one “Jame’s 30-40 Stranglethorn Vale” has a misspelling. Tourguide comes up with an error: “Tourguide: Cannot find zone “Strangethorn Vale” using current zone.” The correct spelling is “Stranglethorn Vale” I contacted the author of Tourguide, who told me “None of my guides have this misspelling, inform whoever wrote the guides
    you’re using.” So that’s what I am doing 🙂

    Thank you

    Short answer: No.

    LongShort answer: No.

Long answer: This is not just a mod site. This site has a huge wealth of non-mod guides. In the past, people would come here to use Jame’s “paper” guides and also discover all the other guides on this site. If Jame’s guides become available elsewhere, we will lose a ton of traffic to this site, and also Jame will lose the revenue from the adds on this site, which would make it hard for him to continue supplying these awesome guides.

You can subscribe to Jame’s Blog to receive notification of when the addon is updated, if you like.

While a few of the quests inWhile a few of the quests in the addon guide may be missing coords, almost all of them have coords. There are a couple possibilities:

You may be mistakenly using the default guides that come with TourGuide instead of our guides (ours are the ones with “WoWPro” in the title).

You may not have LightHeaded and TomTom installed, which greatly reduce the usefulness of the guides.

You may have an older version of the guide which does not have as many coordinates.
Please check each of these possibilities. If you still notice a lot of missing coordinates, please report them on our Bug Reporting Page. Thanks!

First of all, the last thingFirst of all, the last thing you describe, where checking off an “Accept” step causes the “Complete” and “Turn in” steps to check off, is intended behavior. TourGuide does not see that step in your quest log, so it assumes that if you have accepted it, you’ve also completed and turned it in already.

The “bug” you are having will occur when you force quit the WoW process in any way, such as alt+F4 or ctrl+alt+delete –> force quit. Basically WoW does not save your settings, so Tour Guide resets to where it was before you did whatever you did. When you log back in, some steps may auto-complete based on what TourGuide sees in your quest log and inventory, but others will not.

If you think this might have occurred, then that explains the problem. If, however, you are sure you did not force quit the process, let us know and we’ll look into the bug.

    Apr 3, 2009 @ 21:48 pm

Interesting GlitchI’m not sure if this is a bug with the Northrend Guides or with TourGuide itself, but I’ve seen it in both the Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra guides (and I did not see it happen with any of the Outland guides).

This is the scenario: I log in, complete a bunch of quests and check off notes as required. I log out and later log back in only to see that some of the quests that I completed before are not checked off. The odd thing is that it occurs seemingly randomly (that is, quests/notes I completed/checked after the quest that is incorrectly unchecked are marked correctly). When I manually check them off, it updates correctly, though. For example, if a glitched-quest has an Accept tag, a Complete tag, and a Turnin tag in the guide, when I check the Accept portion as complete, the other 2 are updated correctly automatically.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

About the notesHello. Haven’t been very active on the guide writing part lately, but I sure have been active on my alts.

I noticed when leveling one of my many characters that I enjoyed a system used for an old version of the guides better than now (even though it was more buggy at the time) because the fact that notes have been broken down into more parts, subparts and subsubparts is complicating the flow and not making it better.

Example taken from experience: I just recently updated to the latest version and tried one of Jame’s early Horde parts (Hillsbrad/Stonetalon something). What read before me as notes what to kill with a sweet arrow to point the direction has now been changed to single notes telling me which mob to kill, one at the time. Then what about the boss mob I should do at the same time? Or the loot I should I get from around the corners? Surely this is explained in a previous hint but the hint does not remain during the gazillion subparts of the quest that pops up in TourGuide as I’m progressing. I have to mark for read, right-click and go back to a previous entry and be annoyed in the process.

The towns are the same. I only need one note to tell me to repair, sell junk and train. Now I’ve got three, telling me which vendor to go to and in what order. People don’t need that. Flagging more notes to get to the next part of the guide isn’t necessary.

    Just my two coppers.

However, there’s a little issue with it.

The guide picks up quests for Wailing Caverns, but there’s no note that tells those that haven’t read the web version that they’re supposed to finish those quests by themselves without TG.

Howling Fjord GuideI just completed Howling Fjord, and one thing I noticed that would be quicker:

When you do the quest [71] Trident of the Son, you are sent to kill Rotgill who is right next to Explorer Jaren.

You are then sent back to turn in [71] Trident of the Son, then back to Jaren to turn in a couple quests, then hearth.

It would be faster to add a note to complete Jaren’s quests BEFORE picking up [71] Trident of the Son, then when you kill Rotgill, turn in

    * [71] And You Thought Murlocs Smelled Bad!
    * [71] Bring Down Those Shields
    to Jaren,

Then go back to turn in [71] Trident of the Son, and then hearth.

What awesome timing!!I’m kinda hooked on using the add-on, and I JUST finished Howling Fjord, and realized there was no Dragonblight guide, so came to check here, downloaded the new version, and lo and behold – I can see the default guide for Dragonblight again, which I can use until I hit Jame’s Grizzly Hills. :jawdrop:

I have a toon that is about 2 weeks away from hitting WotLK content, so as I’ve just done this will try to help contribute with anything I can help with now that it’s all ‘fresh 🙂

Thanks so much for all your hard work Jame and everyone else who is helping!!

    Back to questing… cheers!

Problem with the horde version of the Howling Fjord GuideI just brought my Lvl 70 Lock to Northrend and following James guides started here. When I tried to select the Howling Fjord guide it had 100% complete in green next to it and would not let me select it. I haven’t completed this area in fact I’m just getting started. I believe I have the latest versions of the addons and the 4/1 version of the guide. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Sorry if this has been covered before but I didn’t see it in the comments I read and if there is a search tab I didn’t see it.

I also made a discovery recently that you may want to mention somewhere Jame.

There was a user complaining about Tourguide using the default UI’s quest tracker system, because it interfered with his or her UI. I discovered that the addon simpleminimap, while being sexy and useful in and of itself, also allows you to move the default quest tracker to wherever you want!

Bloodmyst Isle Addon GuideIn the guide to Bloodmyst Isle I found a error:

When you first arrive at Blood Watch you are told to (amongst others) to take “Know Thine Enemy” and “Bear Neccesities” (sorry for the spelling). Now, I was level 12 when I arrived there and I couldn’t take it. It’s greyed out!

EDIT: It seems I have made a mistake here. This does not apply to your guides, but the “default” ones. I apoligise for the misunderstanding.

  • img
    Apr 1, 2009 @ 0:03 am

Zangarmarsh guideIn the Zangarmarsh guide you are told early on that you should have 13 quests in Zangarmarsh, but you only have 7 quests.

The 5 remaining quests are picked up near the end of the Hellfire guide. And if you like me, did not play through the Hellfire guide, then it poses a problem. There should at least be a check of if the player have the quests in their quest log.

The quests should be moved to the Zangarmarsh guide, so it can be played through stand-alone! (And btw it makes no sense to place the pick ups in the Hellfire guide as you never do any of them in that guide).

Jame’s Horde Terokkar, v0.5, AyitSame, waypoint marker slightly off, should be at 59.36,23.47.

Ashkaz: 49.05, 16.92 (marker in-game might point to the second bridge to go up into the trees though, apologies if that is the case)

The Eyes of Skettis (leg 2), no marker: 50.18, 19.32

Restoring the Light: Northern Altar at 50.73, 16.72

Jame’s Horde Terokkar v0.5 – SuggestionWhen the player is in Shattrath and gets sent to the Cenarion Thicket to turn in “What’s Wrong with Cenarion Thicket”, I suggest inserting “! Adal” before getting sent to the thicket proper. The quest is grabbed from a hagard war veteran on a bridge which is definitely on the path eg (72.87, 47.11), and it saves a (short) detour.

I’ve also finished testing Zangarmarsh Horde v0.5 and didn’t find any issues aside from those already reported.

  • img

Still Horde Zangarmarsh, Step A Spirit Ally (Action)This one’s marker is only a tiny bit off but a PITA because you have to drop a totem in the right smallish area. Suggest pointing the marker to 44.36, 66.28 and rephrase the mouseover comment text that you have to be smack in the middle of the lower stairs to place it.

Jame’s Horde v0.5, ZangarmarshStep to get quest What’s Wrong With Cenarion thicket (right after accepting Watcher Leesa’oh) appears to point to the Cenarion thicket itself in Terokkar instead of the quest giver Lethyn Moonfire (78.58, 63.13 in Zangarmarsh). The waypoint arrow text further refers to Tooki as the person you should talk to, which I recon should be the person you turn the quest in in the Terokkar guide instead.

    Enhancement shammy ftw

    ButEnhancement shammy ftw 🙂

But yeah, I can understand where you’re coming from with the low level enhancement difficulties. We’re just a little toothless until a certain point, then things start getting fun.

At your level, you’ve basically got earthshock.

But when you reach the higher levels, you get more totems, stormstrike, maelstrom, lava lash, feral spirit, etc.

This slow progression of skills is why hancy is so great for new players, but can be frustrating for more experienced players (and why I always take ele until 40, or at least I would if I’d ever been bothered to get past 36.

Anyway, don’t get disheartened, and goodluck with the next installment, it can only get better from here.
