๐Ÿ“ฐ 2023: please check out our recently updated WoW Classic Leveling Guides page.

Now also available as an in-game leveling addon. Please check out the following page to try the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon!

Tips
If you don’t want to try our WoW Leveling Addon, here’s how to enjoy the paper guides as much as possible, even if you don’t have a 2nd monitor, you can either:

1. Print the guides. There is a “Printer Friendly Version” link at the bottom of every guide, you just have to click on it. However, that might be expansive (and probably expensive), because the guides are big, very big. Another downside is that my guides are updated very frequently, so if you print it you’ll miss the latest updates.

2. Playing WOW in Windowed Mode feels very comfortable while following along with this guide.

  • Keep the guide opened in an internet window
  • Log in to World of Warcraft, press Escape and go to Video Options, tick the following boxes:

Untitled-4.jpg

Click on “Apply“.

Your screen will look exactly as if you were playing wow in full screen mode, besides you will be able to ALT-TAB to the guide INSTANTLY.

This is how I play wow while following my guide, when I don’t feel like booting up my 2nd computer ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks a ton!Jame, Thanks for the spectacular guides. I can’t even begin to wonder how many people I’ve recommended it to, and how many characters I’ve used this guide for!

The first time I used it, I got a rogue from 1-60 (Pre BC, almost a year and a half ago) in 10.5 days /played time!

I literally swear by this guide, and am more pleased than ever to see that you’re still at hard work making it better, and making new guides! (I’ve been deployed for the last 14 months)

Keep up the great work, and I’ll keep throwing your name out there to my fellow WoW-ers in leveling despair!

Why these guides are so goodI see a good lot of praise for these guides, both here in the comments and on other sites/forums. I just wanted to give my take on why I think they’re such good guides.

First: They’re easy to understand. There’s very little discrepancy about where you should go, or what you need to do in a certain situation (and, as people experience problems they say so, which leads us to…)

Second: They’re updated. This game changes – a lot; and those changes can easily break things in the game. Also, the author recognizes that he (i think he? apologies otherwise!!) is quite human, and that not everyone thinks exactly the same. So instead of getting all defensive, it’s “thanks – fixed!”

Last, but not least: They’re modularized. These guides can be used by anyone, whether you’re on your first character or you have eight 70’s. This means much different playing styles (people throw in dungeons, or questing with friends, or they don’t get on much so lots of rested xp.) Personally, I’m leveling a number of toons at the moment, so I’m winding up with a lot of rested. So, after following boston’s guide thru 30 (i finished it at 32 or 33 or so on one guy, due to rested xp) and toss in some runthroughs sm for some gear I got, I’m on step 32 or so, but my toon is more than halfway into 37. So if I decide to skip a zone, or a few steps, it’s very easy to do this and not get confused about where I’m supposed to go.

So please, as you continue to improve these guides, make sure you keep these attributes, both with updates to existing ones, and new ones (you know you’ll be burning to make one when WotLK comes out!!)

Thanks again for these amazing guides,

    Cors

YOUR GUIDE RULES!Hey, just need to say thank you so much for this awesome guide, I don’t think I would ever have the patience to finally get to 70 without this, it made the whole thing a lot easier and quicker, not to mention more fun.

Great work mate, and keep it up for the sake of all players who find levelling very long and sometimes boring!

Small CorrectionAfter you kill tethyr in part 1, you state you should talk to sergeant hamelyn when it is really Amelyn. Very small correction, just thought i might add it incase people were confused when they look him up in thottbot or w/e.

    Leveling a druidHi,

I’ve leveled my druid with balance speck from 1-50+ and respecked to feral after that. I can honestly say that feral is much, much easier to lvl with, as you virtually get no down time at all. Being balance is enjoyable and totally different but you will constantly be running out of mana and risk dying if that happens while you still have mobs on you. If you are interested in leveling speed then feral is definitely the way to go. I recommend you try balance until lvl 20, which is when you get cat form. That way you will have gotten a bit of a feel to what balance is about. I’d also recommend that you keep 2 or more gear sets, (feral DPS, feral tanking, balance, healing) and try respecking a couple of times as you lvl. If you for example play moonkin at lvls 40-45 and a couple of lvls between 60 and 70 then you should be able to get a proper idea of how it is to lvl and instance with a moonkin.

Just Wondering.Hey James, first of all great guide, got my first character to 70 by following this guide.
What I wanted to ask though was I have a 40 Allaince shaman and was following the new 30-40 guide and now can only use the old 41-50 guide. Should I just wait for the new 40-50 guide or try to adapt the new guide with the old one? Also, when about is the new 40-50 guide coming out for Alliance.

Another MethodAWSOME guide. Use it all the time. I have found another way to kill off the courier, and ALL of the body guards. Guessing that if you’re looking at this you’re a draenei shaman (hopefully enhancement), so here’s how it goes. Drop your stoneskin totem when you’re just in range for lightning bolt, lightning the courier (which aggs everything). Activate your Draenei healing ability, drop healing stream and magma totems, flameshock the courier. Kill that npc off first, loot incase you die, flameshock whenever you’re focused. Keep dropping magma totems, hope for crits, and you should be able to kill everything off without too much trouble thanks to your healing ability and healing stream (and shamans rock). Use a healing potion/mana potion if you have to, though I had a few windfurry procs so didn’t have to. By the time you start killing the guards they should be at least half dead, so no biggy!

DruidI’ve yet to use your guide but it looks very nice, however I have a question. I plan on rolling a druid alt soon and I will be following your guide with that and you said to always spec for the most damage. As a Druid would speccing for the most damage be as a Balance druid for the spell DPS, as a Feral druid in cat form for melee DPS, or would they be close enough that whichever I want to play would be fine?

    Thanks a ton.

Hi JameThank you a trillion times for this guide, I’ve used it over and over and this time it’s with a Draenei Shaman ๐Ÿ™‚ So I’d like to offer the tactic I use to get the Sealed Folder for the Forsaken Courier.

Basically, you want to keep the bodyguards away from you while you pund on the Courier, this is how I do it:

Get about 40yds from then and let them patrol to you, during that you you put out a stoneclaw totem and a magma totem. Before they get to the totems you pull the courier with a Lightning Bolt to ensure the totems won’t pull her. This will separate her from the bodyguards, once you’ve got her you put an Earth bind totem down to slown down the incoming body guards. After that you just nuke down the Courier who should be down to about 30% by now (I never got a Windfury proc, so it’s alot faster if you do). Loot the folder, set down a new Earthbind Totem, cast Ghost Wolf and run away. ๐Ÿ™‚ Obviously this was done as an Enhancement Shaman level 35 but I don’t see a faster spec to level with.

Also, is there an estimate on the 40-50 guide?

    Thanks,

    Dylan B.

Curious if you’re taking into account the new quest hub in 2.3.x (forgot which exactly), that goblin town in Dustwallow? Wondering if I should go there myself with my 40 shaman or wait till chapter 2 where you’ll have it covered. I just want to experience the content as I haven’t seen it yet.

Thanks for yourThanks for your suggestions.

The cloth donation quests already have been added in the horde guide, and will also be added to the alliance guide when we revamp it.

About the map thing, we’ve already found a temporary fix: we simply stopped making huge maps with 20 steps. We generally split circuits in 2 maps or more, so that there isn’t ever a need to scroll back up a lot.

2 Small suggestionsGreat guides, love them, impressive you did all that work for no pay! Thanks so much.

Cloth!!! As leveling my shaman i noticed i could get a few thousand exp when i passed through a main city by handing in 60 cloth. It might be worth adding this to the guides at the top, as a small suggestion. You could always buy the cloth from the Auction House, gold for exp.

Maps!!! Is there any chance you could have a 2 column format on your guides? Some of the longer routes can be difficult to see because there are 12 or more points, and the map is way off up the page, nowhere to be found.

I’ve also been around withI’ve also been around with WoW since the beginning and was fortunate enough to be able to play the hours needed to level without guides at first but i’m talking serious time put in, I have a few online business run from home so I get to play however often as I want. With all the changes over the years i’ve read some guides and have to say your’s is hands down the greatest and proved to be the best for leveling. I haven’t played as much lately as I got sucked into the online poker and backgammon world were you can win a few bucks for the time spent playing which is always nice in comparison to playing WoW, while leveling in the game is always a good feeling so is winning a game or hand and getting paid hehe.

awesomethis is an awesome guide… only had to make one change. Instead of grinding at expedition armory in the 60-65 guide, i preferred grinding at legion front, the wrathguards there. They give a tad lower exp (i think 50 or so a mob) but they are MUCH easier to kill (averaged about 8-15 seconds on each mob) more mobs in a single area but still easy to single pull. Plus you dont have to deal with knights charge and the casters bolts..

    just a suggestion

    keep up the amazing work

RevampJame, let me start by saying that I loved your guide. I used it for all my characters, 2 of which are now both 70. The others, sadly were deleted when I got bored of them, only to recreate another of that same class once I actually started to understand the game mechanics.

I recently got my Paladin to 32, and am waiting for the revamp of the alliance versions. I have been using the horde revamp for my BE hunter (now 25). Any idea when we might start to see the revamped guides going up for Ally?
