📰 2023: please check out our recently updated WoW Classic Leveling Guides page.

Now also available as an in-game leveling addon. Please check out the following page to try the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon!

Tips
If you don’t want to try our WoW Leveling Addon, here’s how to enjoy the paper guides as much as possible, even if you don’t have a 2nd monitor, you can either:

1. Print the guides. There is a “Printer Friendly Version” link at the bottom of every guide, you just have to click on it. However, that might be expansive (and probably expensive), because the guides are big, very big. Another downside is that my guides are updated very frequently, so if you print it you’ll miss the latest updates.

2. Playing WOW in Windowed Mode feels very comfortable while following along with this guide.

  • Keep the guide opened in an internet window
  • Log in to World of Warcraft, press Escape and go to Video Options, tick the following boxes:

Untitled-4.jpg

Click on “Apply“.

Your screen will look exactly as if you were playing wow in full screen mode, besides you will be able to ALT-TAB to the guide INSTANTLY.

This is how I play wow while following my guide, when I don’t feel like booting up my 2nd computer 🙂

Great guidesJame your guides are fantastic. I used your alliance guide (30-60) to get my human warrior to 60. Now I’m using your horde guide, and got my undead warlock to lvl 48 so far. Can’t wait for the level 60-70 guides, then I can finish getting my warrior to 70!

Do you have a paypal account where people could send you donations? I can’t believe your guides are free 😀

Too fastThis guide is great, but when you include instances and class quests your level goes way past the level where you left the guide. I am now doing lvl 50 quests at lvl 53. Cant really complain though, Im really surprised that this guide is free. All I need now is a lvl 60 to 70 Alliance guide. Id be willing to pay for it if it is this good.

Do you get better XP in a PvP?

    Level 36 Step 1Level 36

Step 1: Take a gryphon ride to Ironforge, go to the hall of explorers northeast of the Gryphon master and get the quest from Roetten Stonehammer [33] Reclaimers’ Business in Desolace. Also turn in the quest [34] Letter to Stormpike at Prospector Stormpike in the Hall of Explorers, don’t get the follow up. Then go to the inn of Ironforge and bind yourself there.

It is really easy xp if you take the follow up Further Mysteries anyways since you simply have to give the letter to Magistrate Henry Maleb in Southshore, where you’re going anyways if you’re going scarlet monastery later.
It isn’t more than round 500 xp you get for completing this quest but it’s 500 free xp so why don’t get it.

A couple of small pointsI have only just begun following this guide, but so far it’s doing what it’s supposed to. I’m following it closely and I am progressing very nicely. Thanks for writing it up.

I would like to point out, however, that if you are a Caster, the grind from 30 to 31 in the Roguefeather Den and Screeching Canyon will not be as short and sweet as if you were a melee class. The Harpies have a Silence (“Deafening Screech”) and the Windcallers have a stun (“Gust of Wind”) that will take their toll on a cloth-wearer (especially in the cave where the respawn rate is extremely high).

It’s not impossible, but prepare to spend more time than anticipated in this area because of Silence.

Also, at the start of L32, when you are turning in the quests at Booty Bay and making it your home, please remember to take all the quests at that time, rather than going to Stormwind to train like in the guide. If you follow the way it’s written, you will make Booty Bay your home, travel to Stormwind, Hearthstone back to Booty Bay to grab the quests, then have to walk all the way north for the other quests, since the guide starts questing up there. Of course, you can always fly from Stormwind to Darkshire, walk to Northern STV for the quests, then Hearthstone to Booty Bay for the other quests, then have to walk back north to begin the guide (or fly to Darkshire and walk back down). *shudder*

Grabbing the quests from Booty bay before training is the easiest way, since you can fly from Stormwind to Darkshire, walk down, and begin.

This Was AwesomeI dunno about that other guy but the guide from 30-60 worked great for me. I followed it all the way and did some instance runs when I had the time and by the end of it all, I was lvl 61. This was perfect man, all my rep was up, I got a lot of my flight plans and it was all soloable for the most part. Dude, I need a 60-70 guide, lol. keep up the good work!

Great Guide 🙂 I want to let people know that this guide is great. 🙁 I’ve seen others that you have to pay for that do way too much running around. 😀 Jame found quest circuits that hit all the major quests in a given lvl range, instead of running back and forth.

:jawdrop: And for everyone crying about PvP in Stranglethorn Vale. I reached 60 on my first character ever, in 10 days /played. 😕 Yes PvP is a little hotter in STV. But the guide gets you through it quickly. It can be done. }:) I’m enjoying it more with my 2nd toon now though with prowl and tracking, (druid).

😉 Thanks for the guide Jame.

    Jame’s Guides Kick AssJame,

Great work on the guides. They saved me from wasting time running around finding what to do or where to go next. My one struggle, (and this may be a personal one since my friend does not agree), has been leveling from 20-30. I like to roll new toons to check out other classes and I have lots of fun, right until I get to 20. Then I’m like, WTF do I do now? This is on the Alliance side too… If there was any way possible, I would totally love a 21-30 leveling guide. Do you have one in the plans? I’m sure you are working on the 61-70 right now. Is it in the works? Thanks again for this totally awesome free guides. They are so much better than the guides that people are charging for. Let us all know how we can show our gratitude. Take care!

Alternative To STVYes there is one – that I know of…

It’s a hellishly boring, grayscale, seldomly visited and often forgotten pit of despair known as Desolace… LOTS of quests. on my first chr all my friends were laughing at me and taunting me about my upcoming adventures in STV. I searched and searched until I found Desolace… It’s a LONG run from Astraanar and you will instantly long for the lush greenery of STV, BUT, I leveled about 9 lvls there! – then I went to STV where the first half of the quests were green but once to booty bay I was back in the yellow!

    About quests in Desolace:
Here is my basic rules for whether or not to do a quest:
    1. If it involves killing stuff – DO IT (kills + quest = EXP!)

    2. Accept EVERY quest you can (regardless of color) and dump them as needed.

    3. I dont do quests that are gathering quests unless they are red OR involve killing for the collection (eg: Crunchy spider legs)

    Thats about it…

Desolace tip, Choose Ghelkis Clan… it’s a hair easier IMO.

I know that these guides pretty much do the dirty work for you. But, I never got cosmos due to my CPU not liking it (IDK why but it wont work) so I take a look at the guides to tell me what I am missing then I find it. like a tip guide and not a hand holding walkthrough.

Anyways, if STV hates you like it hates alliance on my srerver (Dethecus PVP US) then take the long rediculous walk to Nijel’s Point in Desolace and get to questing!!! Good Luck!

P.S. I actually found a Desolace ANTI STV guide online… I font remember where though…
Search for “Anti STV Desolace” you should find it

STV on a PVP server… npmy pvp toon is now 45+ hunter on a pvp server to prove to some friends its good enough there, and they told me id never come out of STV alive due to Ganking…
True i died like 10 times from Ganking and 3 times from mobs while running from a Ganking MOFO,
    lvl ??= Chicken 😉 …
Just use the vegitation to ur advantage, and just hide in it… most gankeres dont have the patience to w8 for u to show urslef even if they know ur around. it took me very short time to go trough STV and my friends dont say to much these days about the lvling capabileties of this guide…

    Rock on Jame!!!

P.S. BTW my main is still w8ing for ur 60-70 guide, 😉

2 lvl 60, and 3 in the making following ur guide 8) I have used this Guide on 2 chars to lvl 60 Hunter & Mage (btw such was the xp rate with em both that i never got past lvl 54 in the guide when it dinged 60) and im currently at 40 with my second Hunter on a PVP server, since after a friend and coworker told me it didnt work on a PVP server due to all the contested area Qs…
Well after the first 10 lvls he shut up… 😉
And plan to have his played time under 7days, with 5 proffs maxed, skinning Herbs first aid cooking and fishing }:)
So to all u who r having any doubts or problems, with this guide, just begin reading it again, ur missing something, when u find out what, u will go ahead and lvl like mad again.
Just remember what he said, kill all in ur way, preferably yellow…
And also look at ur specc on ur chars since it matters a whole lot while lvling…

P.S. PingPong try a 8) frost specc 8) and u have better controll due to slow mob speed and also its a bit mana friendlier…and look at the mage guide in here some where, i did alot of AOE killing while grinding, wich is very fun and made it very fun being a mage

P.P.S. Jame! PingPong asked a question that i thought was a good about the shopping list, what r those things used for… (i know after reading the guide so often)
But it would be very good for new players and seasoned players (who think they know it all) following this guide to know what those things r and specialy what qs they r used for and possible what lvl to use em in at the beginning…
Maybe even color code the names of the items or enhance em abit in some way.

    anyways enough of my rambling

THX for a gr8 guide and boosting my WOW exerience
if i hadnt found it i would have stopped along time ago

    Best regards

Just got a Dreanei to 60 using nothing but these guides!!I have just finished getting my Dreanei to 60 (/played approx 7 days). I used nothing but these guides. There are very good, however I do have some concerns:

    1) Groups are almost impossible to get for some instances, ST, Maraudan you can forget. Everyone and his dog is in Outlands. As such I didn’t (couldn’t) do the instances and had to grind. So prepare to grind if you’re planning on doing these guides.
    2) Some of the grind spots you claim to be good are just dreadful. But then again some are just awesome, the blood elf camp in Azshara (never heard of it before the guide) was just brilliant. But now that TBC is here, many old places that use to be farmed are no longer occupied. I grinded for hours on the Incendisiours (sp?) in Searing Gorge because no-one cares about TB rep anymore.
    3) Killing the guy in Felwood that drops the Flute is BUGGED if you are a Dreanei. This has been confirmed by GM’s. I killed him continuously for an hour and nothing. So you can forget that quest line.

Some tips for people thinking of doing this guide:

    1) Do exactly as Jame’s tells you to do, at times you might think “but surely he’s got it wrong there blah blah blah”. He hasn’t just read on and you will see why you have done something that appeared pointless at the time.
    2) There are many times when you might be grinding out a few final bars of a level, but have 5+ quests to hand in. It will be very tempting to hand in the quests to bring the grind to an end. DON’T. It just messes stuff up (personal experience).

Gratz Jame, thanks to you Im only a few weeks behind the rest of my guild who are due to start Karazhan next week. If it wasn’t for you I would probably be months off, or give up all together and go back to my old main.

STV can be a challenge yes. But I find gankers will give up at some point.. I always try to do STV late and night or early in morning. NPC’s will stay online forever, gankers will not.

    Feb 4, 2007 @ 8:29 am

Sorry but,There is no alternative to STV at this level range, simply because there aren’t any other zones with quests to take you through those levels. So you’ll either have to play at low peak times, or have a high level player as bodyguard while you do STV.

If you can’t do that, only way to avoid STV is to grind or do instances repeatedly.

    STVThe guides were excellent, overall.

The only MAJOR stopper is STV (Stranglethorn Vale) and BB (Booty Bay).

No one..and I mean *NO ONE* on a PvP server should *EVER* have to go through this abysmal hole of scum. This is where level 60s and 70s come to utterly ruin level 30 and 40s play time by incessantly griefing.

The only reason to go to STV is to get your butt kicked repeatedly and come to the realization that Blizzard has no concept of ‘value for your money’ or ‘fair play’, hence the UTTER lack of rules, guidelines or restrictions on how you can be screwed over by PWNL (people with no lives).

For the love of all thats good, please come out with a NON STV version of your guide.

Sincerely, someone who has been stuck at 43 for two weeks because STV sucks.

just used a night to go trough the whole guide from 30 and pick up all the Qs i didnt know of, which was alot, it took me about 1 1/2 week to finish the rest to 60 RL time not played…
and did alot of soloing DM SM and other instances to make money, and helping guildies with alt boosting…

Thank you!Propz to James and writing this guide. My First 60 took me almost 4 months to level on my own. Having that charachter in end-instance raiding, I decided to create a Gnome Warlock with the goal of 60 before TBC expansion. Thanks to your guide I managed to go from 30 to 60 in 6.3 days /played.

I literaly went from 46 to 57 in the course of 2 days while I was sick at home.

Most of this guide was easy as pie. There were a few things I did out of order (Like the dino you bring the meat too in ungoro) because I knew as a warlock I could solo these at a lower level then the guide recommended. Little things like that made for good XP.

I personaly did not have to “grind” any one spot JUST for XP. The only grinding I did was for quest items.

I look forward to hopfully seeing a TBC expansion 60-70 guide soon!

ExcelentHi and thank you for the time and effort you have put into this guide. I have not been playing wow for long. I was getting very frustraed before finding this guide. I was spending more time running here and there to finnish a quest.

I have just finnished the 31-40 Alliance guide. Opps im 42.

I had alot of fun with this. I did the guide with a friend YUP! the whole thing. We killed everything we saw. We did some grinding when we were waiting for one another to get on and quest again. But i went from 30-42 In 5 days. But most important i had fun.

Im just printing off the next guide!

    Thanks once again!!

Brilliant guide!Just wanted to say thank you Jame for writing such a good guide. I only discovered it when I was lvl52, and I followed the steps from 50 to about 57, in the process going from lvl 52 to 60, which I dinged last night! Yay!

Found the overall quality of the guide very good, and would heartily recommend it. It’s fun, efficient and easy to use, and it’s free!

I also found that being a couple or three levels higher than the section I was following made some encounters a fair bit easier than they would be at the ‘correct’ level, and I didn’t feel that the XP/hour I was getting suffered too much as a result. I’m a casual gamer, so having an easier time of it suits me fine. Being a bit higher than the recommended level also helped me by allowing the option to skip over instance runs and crack on with the next solo stuff, which saved me time too. I’ve done some of the instance stuff before, and will go back to do it later as it is fun, but because you can waste a lot of time doing instances with PuGs that fall apart or have people who quit half way through, it’s nice to have the option to skip them.

Overall, a fantastic piece of work.

Great guide!I am currently at 46 now, and this seems to be the longest grinding section – I have 6 and 1/2 bars to grind to be 1 bar before 47.

Great guide – I love it. I agree with Jake, there are a few additional quests that have been added to the game since the last patch.

Additional point to note to those that are not getting their level high enough, I wonder if you are doing this in a group? I think that is quicker and easier, but you do not get quite the same amount of xp when you are grinding for the quests, hence the additional grinding required.

I am looking forward to using the rest of your guides to hit 60! 🙂

Possible Update for lvl 46?I’m not sure if you know about this Jame’s, but either recently or just after this new patch, there was a Draenei placed in Aerie Peak with 3 quests of relative ease, and rewarding some easy experience. One of them, which asks you to find Furrolborrow or some odd Dwarf’s house, is just South of Aerie Peak and all that is needed is for you to right click on the book on the table in the house and it rewards an easy 3k experience (possibly more, not sure if quests lose total xp or not for higher lvl, I did it at 49 to hit 50 rather than grinding).

He also gives you another one to kill a Witch Doctor and his pet spider, which at 46 at the time I found to be extremely easy (then again i’m a hunter and just used my pet as bait :D).

The third quest is just killing Wolves which actually fits in nicely with the circuit, since the wolves are right along the way and is a good easy quick grind.

But anyways, just thought i’d let you know. 🙂 I’m pretty sure you have a grinding session in the lvl 46, and could replace it with those three quests for a real easy 7-13k exp.

    No problemTo: PingPong

During Jame’s Guide he uses quest grinding rather than straight up grinding most of the time, and it could be that you’re only grinding and not quest grinding. Follow his circuits and do the quests, kill everything along the way and don’t waste time at all running to and fro handing quests in, do that in the end. 🙂

Great Guide!I must say, when I first looked at the Guide with my 42 Priest, I didn’t think I could do it. I stopped playing for awhile, but then decided to try with my 30 Hunter. In under a week and a half i’ve gone from level 30-48 using this Guide and averaging about 5 hours of play a day. It’s detailed to tell you exactly where to go, when to go, and in the end gets you a hump sum of experience in a short amount of time.

Great Guide Jame’s don’t know what we’d do without you. 😀

Wow that must have been oneWow that must have been one hell of a day!

These guides are pretty good. I have used them 30+ a couple of times now, and while I do miss something here and there sometimes do to formatting, they are awesome. I would have to say that post 2.0.1 there are a good deal of extra quests here and there around the world that might be added. To the Swamp of Sorrows walkthrough in particular.

A 20-30 guide would be a very good addition if that could be done. With the extension of Forest Song there could be a good deal of different locales to level. Would be nice to know what the most efficient path was.

I can’t seem to make it but i believe that it worksHi, first of all this is my first char and I play a mage. I don’t seem to notice that my lvling is so fast since it takes me about 7 hours per lvl following this guide. I have to admit that in SVT I get kicked by hordes cause I’m on a PVP server so I went Grinding to get lvl 34 in sargeron just beside the next location you said for lvl 36 lvling. It’s safe out there and there are plenty of lvl 32-33 demons, easy killing. At the beginnning you said there wouldn’t have a lot of grinding but i kind of get 30k grinding expi every lvl and that’s what makes it long. Am I supposed to have so much grinding to do? There’s also the fact that I’m not able to get over 5k grinding expi per hour and that is long too. 5k to 30k makes it 6 hours. If anyone could give me an advice or whatsoever on how to play my mage or I don’t know what i’d be thankful.

PS. One reason why my grinding expi is slow is that I’m always drinking water for my fire built mage spends it all on two demon killing. I use to Pyroblast, Fireball, Frost Nova, Fireball again and end it with a Flameblast and that kills it. (Usually they don’t die if I Screech’em for the last hit)

    Briefly
1)Am I supposed to always have around 3/4 of a level to grind?
2)Is there a way to have a mana/kill efficient rating?
3)What’s the use of those :

    1. 1X Patterned Bronze Bracers ~50 Silver
    2. 1X Frost Oil ~ 2 Gold
    3. 1X Gyrochronatom ~1 Gold

    Early thanking

Best level 30-60 Guide i have Ever Read.James, i worship you. Your guides are so greatly detailed and shows exacually where i need to go and who to talk to, i have a level 46 Night Elf hunter, started guide at level 32, i have never leveled so fast, if it wasn’t for your guides i would of probally not even be level 40. Thank you for taking the time to write these guides. I also have one question.
Do you plan on making a level 20-30 Alliance guide? i looked at some alliance guides on here for 20-30, but their not really any good. And at 20-30 is usually the level i start to struggle with. Just was curious if a 20-30 was on the way or not. Either way, Very nice job on the current guide i give u a 10/10.

    eh? 😛

    If you follow myeh? 😛

If you follow my guide correctly you should be at the level my guide says you should be o_O

I calculated the XP given by the quests in the guide and for the missing XP I said you should grind. But in total you should be lvl 40 at the end of chapter I of my alliance guide, I don’t understand how you “only got to level 37” 🙂

it was okTHis guide was ok, but i did everything you said and i only got to lvl 37. Idk if it’s my fault or not but i was really wanting to get to 40 for my mount. I am a lvl 37 Hunter and i started at 30. But all in all pretty good guide.
