You want to contribute but aren’t sure as to how? Follow this step by step guide on how to contribute correctly:
- There are three types of contributions you can make, a guide book page, a guide project or a news post:
- A guide book page – short explanation: This is ONLY for people who have a guide already worked out in their head and want to dedicatedly work alone on a guide with the sole purpose of finishing it as soon as possible. This basically directly adds a page to the existing Guide Books that we already have. Guide book pages may only be edited by their respective author and no one else.
Long explanation:This is called “book page” because all the guides that members of www.wow-pro.com ever submitted are organised into 5 books: General Guides, Guides in Other Languages, Instance Guides, Leveling Guides and Tradeskill Guides. Basically writing a guide book page adds a page or a chapter to these books. The advantage of this system is that it allows printing the guides belonging to any book or chapter as a whole. For example instead of having to print all pages of “Alliance Leveling Guides” you can just print the whole chapter which will give you all guides ever submitted as “Alliance Leveling Guides”. - A guide project – this is a collaborative writing effort meaning that you start out a guide as an idea and every member of the community can edit your guide and help building it. If you aren’t sure about what exactly you want to write or how it’s supposed to look at the end, if you need help or if you haven’t got enough time on your hand to finish your project, choose this content type.
- A news post – if you have any news that are related to Blizzard or World of Warcraft you can post them by using this content type.
- Make up your mind about what you want to write. Be as specific as possible (for example “Guide to WoW” would be way to general) choose a small topic, work out a guide properly and then expand it as you see fit or as you get time. Once you know what type of information you want to share with the community choose one of the above mentioned content types.
- What if someone already made a guide about the topic I chose? First see if the existing guide is a guide book page (non editable) or a guide project (editable). If it is a guide book page either make an addition to the already existing guide by choosing “add a child page” (at the bottom of the guide) or if the already existing guide isn’t compatible with your work at all, start a new book page. If the guide that already exists is a guide project, contribute by editing the already existing work (scroll down for guidelines on this). Don’t just blindly create 1000 versions of e.g. Alliance Leveling Guide x/y, try to expand the work of other people by adding child pages or editing.
- Save your work in progress frequently. Make sure to never trust browsers to keep your work safe until the end. From experience on editing dozens of guides I can tell you that a quick misclick or a weird move with your hand can screw up the work of hours, so do yourself and us the favor and submit your work in progress as often as possible, you can always come back and edit later.
- DO NOT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES COPY WORK OF OTHER PEOPLE TO OUR SITE. This is very important for us, whatever you do either don’t use copyrighted work from other people or ask them before posting here. If problems with posted content arise you will at the very least be banned from our site. We take no responsibility whatsoever for posts/guides made by members, each post is entirely the responsibility of the respective poster.
- We want no guides/posts on anything that might violate World of Warcraft’s/Blizzard’s Terms of Agreement. This includes botting, cheating, hacking, selling of ingame objects or any other activity forbidden by Blizzard. Also posting of any advertise, abusive/racist/shocking/adult material is COMPLETELY forbidden.
- We reserve ourselves the right to at all times to edit or delete posts/guides/comments that we judge improper.
Once you’ve chosen how you want to contribute, a few guidelines:
Guide Book Pages: these can only be edited by you and administrators who normally won’t touch your work unless it violates our rules.
1. Add a title (be specific)
2. Under “Parent” choose the book or chapter that the guide should belong to (only create new chapters/books if absolutely necessary, you can do this by selecting [this will create a book] or dropping your guide directly into one of the 5 existing books [this will create a chapter]).
3. Write the guide, you can also add attachments (100 KB is the max file size and 550×550 the max resolution for images) by scrolling down, below the text boxes and clicking on the link “file attachments”.
5. To format your guide use bbcode.
4. After finishing your guide, hit submit.
Keep in mind that if you browse through our guide book pages and if suddenly you wish to add a guide you can also scroll to the bottom of the guide or the chapter you were reading and use the “add a child page” link.

No axiome, can translateNo axiome, can translate right away 🙂
translating guidesI want to translate some guides in dutch to post here and I was wondering if I need the authorization of the author to do translate the guides?
Great tips. I have read someGreat tips. I have read some of Jame’s guides and they are fantastic to play along side not to mention that fantastic details and yet so simple. But he lacks one area, personaly. Guides 20 – 30 for Alliance, but I under stand why he hasn’t since you would have to write 4 guides for each race, Draenei, Dwaf/Gnome, Night Elf and Human.
I’m thinking of going to have a go at making a guide 20 – 30 for the new Draenei race and starting area because I have just made a Draenei Shammy (Khaz Modan) and I was looking around on here for a 20 – 30 guide though its easy enough as it is. Plus its so much fun, but anyway I would love to have a go at making a guide for it and woulnd’t mind help.
P.S. (Contact Tic782@gmail.com if you would like to help me)
At the moment the moduleAt the moment the module that makes people accept the ToA doesn’t work because the CMS we use for the site released a completely new versions and modules still need to be updated to be compatible 🙂
