More than just a Walkthrough

This is the ultimate guide to complete 100% of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

This is more than just a Platinum Trophy guide, we’ll get everything.

  • All 61 Trophies including The Planet’s Hope platinum trophy
  • All items, even the not important ones, every Potion will be looted! Every Gil will be collected!
  • All Side Quests

Basically, we’ll farm everything, every Gil, material or consumable will be found and looted if you follow this guide. You’ll finish your first playthrough with plenty of materials to do anything you want in your New Game+ (Hard Mode Playthrough).

I’ve planned this guide to do everything in the most efficient order, so that we never hit difficulty walls and complete the full game with as little deaths as possible. Every upgrade that can help will be obtained at the right moment, you’ll be warned in advance of every ambush and trap, there will be an optimal strategy for each of the enemies and Bosses which require one.

  • If you’ve never played a Final Fantasy game before, I guarantee you will Platinum this game without any problems if you follow my guide.
  • If you’re a casual gamer or 70+ year old with bad reflexes, I guarantee you will Platinum this game too.
  • If you’re a veteran FF player, I guarantee you won’t regret following this guide, it will save you a lot of time and you’ll probably learn a few tricks and hidden game mechanics.

We’ll start the game with a few basic combat mechanics, get some early upgrades and progressively add more tools to our arsenal and explore some advanced combat tactics as well as new combat mechanics which only exist in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

I have thousands of hours of experience with Final Fantasy games. I’ve completed them all, including the old games. You can rest assured these guide will be very optimized and will provide you the best path to power up your team, master the best combos, and defeat the hardest challenges.

If you want an example, here’s a guide I wrote for the hardest battle in FF7 Remake: Top Secrets. Thousands of players were able to complete this tough challenge thanks to my guide:

Before we dive into the guide, let me answer the most frequently asked questions.

FF7 Rebirth Walkthrough FAQ

Q: This is my first Final Fantasy game ever. Is it ok if I start with this one?
A: Yes! Each Final Fantasy game has it’s own story and characters. What they have in common are some battle mechanics, monsters, magic, items and music. So you can start with this one and you’ll be fine, especially if you have me as your guide 😜. However, I do recommend playing FF7 Remake first, because it’s the first part of the story taking place in FF7 Rebirth. The remake of Final Fantasy 7 will be a trilogy:  FF7 Remake (2020), FF7 Rebirth (2024) and FF7 ???? (Yet to be announced).

Q: Can I follow this guide if I’m on PC / PS / Xbox?
A: Not yet. This is a PlayStation exclusive for now, but there will be a PC release for sure and my guide will be 100% compatible with the PC version. The achievements will be the same.

Q: Will I get all trophies, including the platinum, if I follow your guide?
A: Yes of course. But much more than that. You’ll get everything you can possibly get in one playthrough. All items, weapons, spells, etc. Everything.

Q: Do I have to follow your builds and party layouts exactly ?
A: No. You can follow this guide and do your own thing and you’ll be fine. However, this is a very optimized guide and I believe the tactics I’ll use are very optimized and powerful. Some strategies in the later part of the game are specific and will require certain Materia Levels and Weapon Abilities to work properly, so you’ll have to find your own strategies if you don’t have the same gear and materia loadout. However, FF7 Rebirth is very flexible with respecing. You can reset all your Folios at any moment for free, and you can grind to catch up on your Materias at any points as well, so you can copy my party setup at any point if you’re struggling.

Q: Can I follow your guide if I’m on PC / PS / Xbox?

A: Not yet. This is a PlayStation exclusive for now, but there will be a PC release and my guide will be 100% compatible with the PC version. The achievements will be the same.

Q: I love your guides! How can I support your work?

BEST SETTINGS FOR FF7 REBIRTH

If I don’t mention a Setting, it means I just leave it at default and that I don’t think it’s worth explaining.

Gameplay

Difficulty: Normal
You can play in Classic Mode on your first playthrough if you want, but you’ll need to do a 2nd playthrough in hard mode anyway if you want to unlock all the Trophies and the best gear, so I recommend playing in Normal Mode to learn the battle system and prepare for hard mode. In any case don’t worry, I’ll make sure everything goes smoothly. I’ve got some 69 year old guy with arthritis to 100% Elden Ring in the past, so everyone can do it😉

Combat Style: Active
Same as above.

Cursor Position: Out of Battle: Remember
Quality of Life change. When you’re outside of battle and want to heal up your party with Cure several times for example.

Cursor Position: In Battle: Remember
Quality of Life change. This will be increasingly useful as we progress to the game. Some Materias such as ATB Assist trigger when you use the same ability twice in a row.

Combo Targeting: Free
Makes a big difference when you fight multiple enemies, allows you to switch freely from one target to another, which can be very useful in some situations.

Camera

Camera Distance: Out of Battle: 3
You’ll get a better view of your surroundings this way.

Camera Distance: In Battle: 3
You’ll get a better view of your surroundings and see what you’re doing. Very important in battle.

Lock-On Controls: Menu Controls & Auto-Camera
We want to be able to control our camera independently from switching targets. It’s much more convenient that way, especially when surrounded by multiple enemies.

Screen Shake: Off
It’s kinda cool, but it makes it harder to see things and you get bored with it pretty quick.

Graphics

Optimization: Performance
Playing in 60 FPS will help you a lot with battle, and overall everything will feel more fluid. The game is already beautiful in 60 FPS.

Brightness: 5
Some areas are quite dark, I feel like I can see everything better with Brightness set at 5, while still having everything look “normal”.

Main scenario: The Mission Begins

Follow Tifa, press L3 to toggle on sprint mode. You can also activate it by holding R2, but just toggling it on is more convenient most of the time.

  • Smash all the Shinra Boxes on your way to get extra items.
  • Don’t bother going off the path, there are no items, I’ve checked everything thoroughly.
  • The only thing you can find sometimes off this path are a few Shinra Boxes, on very rare occasions. Not worth your time. We’ll get plenty of items in this walkthrough, you won’t ever lack of anything.
  • Everytime you attack something, smash a box, loot an item, your Sprint will be Toggled off, so remember to toggle it back on. Sprint mode makes you automatically climb stuff too.

Keep moving up
CUTSCENE: I think I got this

FIGHT: 2x Insectoid Chimera
Combat tips:

  • Blocking
  • Operator Mode
  • Holding Square in Operator Mode (sweep attack at the end groups up small enemies, great to combo with follow up AoE damage moves)
  • Building ATB
  • Triple Slash

Bronze Trophy PlaystationBronze Trophy Unlocked: I Got This
Total Trophies Obtained: 1/61

CUTSCENE: You Leave It All to Me

Main scenario: Happy Trails

Heal yourself up with Cure outside of combat. We’ll only use items when we’re low on MP.

Move up until you get the Initiating Combat tutorial window. Get your 1st First Strike.

Total Trophies Obtained: 2/61
CUTSCENE: Well done, Trooper
FIGHT: 2x Velociwing

CUTSCENE: Clearing the Way

Main scenario: Clear the Way

MATERIA CHANGE

EQUIP Assess Materia

Move up
FIGHT: 3x Insectoid Chimera
Combat tips:

  • Assessing
  • Launching Enemies in the Air

After the fight is over, on both sides you can find:

  • Shinra Boxes

Move up, look to the right up on the rocks:

  • Shinra Boxes

Move up
FIGHT: 2x Velociwing
Combat tips:

  • 3 ways to Pressure Velociwing:
    • Dodge their “Charge” move. If you don’t feel comfortable with Dodging, just stay in Punisher Mode and hold Block to retaliate. This won’t Pressure them, but it will count as a Block and do some damage.
    • Hit them with Aero. Except we don’t have Aero yet.
    • Do enough damage to break their “Pressure Threshold”. ALL enemies have a damage threshold which puts them under Pressure. You just have to do enough damage in a short time window. Normal melee combos will achieve that, especially in Punisher Mode.

After the fight, look on the ground for:

  • Shinra Boxes

Move up, look to the left and right:

  • 2x Shinra Boxes

A few steps further is a chest:

  • 2x Mixed Hi-Potion

A few steps further, before the stairs:

  • Shinra Boxes

Here’s a recap of our current setup

MATERIA LOADOUT

Weapon:
Level Boost
Fire

Armor:
Ice
Healing
Wind
Assess

Take the elevator
Get out and go left:

  • Shinra Boxes

FIGHT: Screamer
Combat tips:

  • Precision Block / Parry
  • Ranged Attacks or Retaliation to build ATB
  • Assess: Fire Weakness. They are resistant to frontal melee attacks when swinging their maces.
  • Easiest strategy is to use ranged attacks to build ATB and then cast Fire or Fira (but Fire is enough to Pressure, so save on MP)

Bronze Trophy PlaystationBronze Trophy Unlocked: Exploitative Practices
Total Trophies Obtained: 3/61
Move up, on the other side of the stairs is a chest:

  • 1x Ether

Go upstairs:

  • Shinra Boxes

Take the Elevator

Get out and check left:

  • Shinra Boxes

Move up and check left and right:

  • 3x Shinra Boxes

Move up to the helipad
CUTSCENE: C’mon

EPISODE 03: TEXT GUIDE

Main scenario: The Mission Continues

Climb up the wall, don’t rest on the bench yet unless you’re very low on HP/MP.
Loot the purple materia on the floor next to the bench:

  • HP Up Materia

MATERIA CHANGE

EQUIP HP Up instead of Level Boost
Note: for now we don’t need a Level Boost for our materias, we’d rather use a slot to Gain AP for all our materias.

FIGHT: 3x Insectoid Chimera
Sephiroth Combat Tips:

  • Zanshin / Zanshin Rising

Rest on the bench

Enter the cave
FIGHT: 2x Velociwing

  • Hell’s Gate / Infernal Gate

Look for crates in the middle of the first room:

  • Shinra Boxes

A few step NorthEast should also be blue crystals, a new type of destroyable object which can give you MP back:

  • Mako Crystal

A few steps further North is a green materia on the ground:

  • Empowerment Materia

MATERIA CHANGE

EQUIP Empowerment instead of HP Up Materia. It will be more useful to us in the near future

Go west and down towards the objective
CUTSCENE: Mako Spring

Move up North, Mako Crystal to the right.

FIGHT: Screamer, Velociwing
Combat tips:

  • Hold Square on Sephiroth to do ranged attacks on the Screamer. The use Fire to pressure.
  • Switch to Cloud to use Void Shatter, a Synergy Skill he has with Sephiroth (HOLD R1, then HOLD Square or Triangle to charge up, then release). Void Shatter significantly fills up the stagger bar, and costs no ATB, unlike Focused Thrust. But it does require a little more time to be executed.

Bronze Trophy PlaystationBronze Trophy Unlocked: Team Player
Total Trophies Obtained: 4/61
Move up and look to the right:

  • Mako Crystal

Also to the right you should see a dead tree against a rock platform, climb it to find a Yellow Materia:

  • Spare Change Materia

Note: we’re not gonna start wasting Gil now, we’ve got other ways to deal damage

Further up, in the middle of the rocks:

  • 2x Mako Crystals

Move up
FIGHT: 2x Insectoid Chimera, Twin Brain
Combat tips:

  • Switch to Cloud, Assess Twin Brain
  • Defeat the 2x Insectoids First
  • Twin Brain becomes Pressured when they use “Screech”. Save ATB to Focused Thrust during that.
  • You can also use the Synergy Skill: Counterfire if you stand close when they use it. It will Counter the Skill and also do a lot of damage and fill up Cloud’s Limit by a decent amount.

Climb up 2 walls
FIGHT: Twin Brain, Velociwing
Combat tips:

  • Switch to Cloud, build ATB and Focused Thrust the Twin Brain when he’s Pressured.

Shimmy accross the plank, drop down to the left to find a Blue Materia:

  • Magnify

MATERIA CHANGES:
EQUIP Magnify instead of Healing Materia
SWAP Magnify with Fire Materia
Sephiroth has a Healing Materia equipped, we just need one. Plus he has very high Magic, his Cure heals for a ton of HP.

MATERIA LOADOUT:

Weapon:
Empowerment
Magnify

Armor:
Ice
Fire
Wind
Assess

Climb back up and move up
FIGHT: Zu
Combat tips:

  • As a general rule, if the enemy is targeting the character you’re currently controlling, it’s best to switch out. That way you can be offensive while the AI will decently defend with the other characters.
  • Also, try to spread out and fight the enemy from Behind or the sides if possible.
  • Open up the fight with Sephiroth to get the aggro, then quickly switch to Cloud, do Aerial Attacks until Zu is pressured. Then Focused Thrust to Stagger. Then build ATB quickly in Punisher Mode to Assess.
  • Switch to Sephiroth to finish with Zanshin / Rising Zanshin or Hell’s Gate / Infernal Gate

Move up the small stairs:

  • Shinra Boxes

Climb up the rock for a chest:

  • 1x Mega-Potion

North, climb up the platform for a Purple Materia:

  • Precision Defense Focus Materia

Note: we can’t equip them all, it’s a good materia but heavily reliant on your ability to Parry. Not for everyone.

Climb up the ladder
FIGHT: 2x Kyuvildun

Near the next ladder:

  • Shinra Boxes

Climb up, boxes ahead:

  • Shinra Boxes

Climb up the stairs to find a Blue Materia on top of some crates:

  • Auto-Cast Materia

Note: for the lazy kind of players, we won’t use it in this guide. We have much better options.

Move up, look to the left:

  • Bunch of Shinra Boxes

Climb up the ladder, turn to the right and drop down over the railings to find a green materia with shinra boxes:

  • Comet Materia

MATERIA CHANGE:
EQUIP Comet instead of Wind Materia
Note: a very powerful materia to deal heavy damage

Get back up, go behind the fence and open the double doors
Then grab the Hoover, suck in the nearest Mako Fumes
Then go through the double doors we just opened to hoover the other 2 Mako Fumes

Take the elevator
Exit and go right inside the fenced area to find some boxes and a chest:

  • Shinra Boxes
  • 1x Elixir

Move towards the bench, drop down to the right to loot a chest:

  • 1x Elixir

Get back up and rest at the Bench

COMBAT SETTINGS
Set Cloud as Leader, it’s part of our opening strategy against the upcoming Boss.

EPISODE 04: TEXT GUIDE

Open the door and enter

CUTSCENE: Wait
BOSS FIGHT: Materia Guardian
Check the video for the detailed strategy to defeat the Materia Guardian easily.
Combat tips:
Phase 1:

  • Start on Cloud, switch to Punisher Mode, hold R1 to Retaliate and build one ATB.
  • Right after blocking an attack: Assess.
  • If he does Seizing Claw, let yourself get caught the first time:
  • Quickly switch to Sephiroth, build 1 ATB and cast Fire on the Hindleg to free Cloud, which will unlock another Trophy for us.

.
Bronze Trophy PlaystationBronze Trophy Unlocked: Unfettered Friendship
Total Trophies Obtained: 5/61

  • After that, you can try to Dodge the next Seizing Claws:
    • The best way to Dodge it is to be in Punisher Mode and Swinging, then switch back to Operator Mode to do a slide. You’ll end up behind the Materia Guardian, check the video to see exactly how this combat mechanic works.
    • Dodging it successfully will put the Boss in a Pressured state. Destroying the Hindleg will also apply Pressure. Doing a lot of damage in a short time window as well (but that applies to all Enemies).
  • While the Boss is Pressured, build 2 ATB on Both Characters, then back to Cloud and use Voidshatter if still time.
  • Try to always keep at least 1 ATB on each character, ready to either Cure or use Fire when needed.
  • When you have 2 ATBs: buff up with Bravery (Magnified), and with Sephiroth, either use Cure if needed, or cast Fira.

Phase 2 (Materia Guardian jumps to the ceiling)

  • Fire on either Leg with Sephiroth
  • Dash in with Cloud: Punisher Mode, Berserker Buff, Voidshatter.
  • Switch to Sephiroth: Build 2 ATB, Fira.
  • Switch to Cloud: Build 2 ATB, Fire.
  • Build 2 ATB again on both characters and save it

Phase 3 (Materia Guardian jumps above the pipes)

  • 2 options to counter it:
    • Use Synergy Ability: Double Helix immediately
    • Or get ready to use Counterfire (Hold R1 + Circle) when Trine is about to hit you. Counterfire is very powerful, it negates all projectile damage if timed properly, it does a lot of counter damage and stagger damage, and it boosts your Limit significantly.
    • In any case, use your Synergy Ability: either immediately to get the Materia Guardian back down. Or after getting it back down thanks to Counterfire.

Bronze Trophy PlaystationBronze Trophy Unlocked: No “I” in “Synergy”
Total Trophies Obtained: 6/61

  • Then Fira, Fira on Sephiroth / Fire, Fire on Cloud
  • This should Pressure him before he gets a chance to do anything.
  • Stagger him with either Character who is closest to filling up the Limit Bar (Staggering an enemy fills up the Limit Bar by 1/3 for the character who landed the Stagger blow)
  • Use Limit Break on either character to finish the fight.

It’s 80-90% done but I now have to do a full re-check and optimization before I start publishing. Also, I’ve been busy lately with work and other things so please bear with me. It’s coming as soon as I can 🙂

Just curious as to where you’re at with the guide. Your guides for remake and intermission are probably the best guides I’ve used for any game ever. Pretty excited to use your guide for rebirth as well.

Hey Jame, love your work. When you’ll put out a guide for this? Doing my best to avoid spoilers as I know many who completed the game already. I’m currently on Ch 5., had some difficulties but your guides really help
