Ptch 5.4

This guide will be obsolete with the next patch and all my hard work will go to Hell. Well done Blizz. *transforms into the Sha of Anger*

The Golden Lotus Dailies will get a severe revamp just like the entire Vale of Eternal Blosoms; I'll probably have to do them all over again to write a completely new guide. I just leveled my Warlock to 90 so I'll probably use her to write the new guide once the patch goes live.

Official Confirmation

There we go: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/blog/10624922

The last paragraph of that blog article confirms my worries: Almost no more Golden Lotus dailies in the next patch :(

Blizzard continues to taunt

Blizzard continues to taunt me... I just read in this article (german) about the PTR that there probably won't be any quests replacing the Golden Lotus dailies; instead, the zone will be plastered with elite-rare mobs that grant reputation when killed. Those mobs are even more noticeable than the ones on the Isle of Thunder, because they don't require players to yell their spawns through the chat, but instead appear with a blinking icon on the map and minimap.

Guess we'll have to wait and see if there's any Golden Lotus daily quests left at all once 5.4 goes live. All this hard work I did goes to waste *cries*

I better get my ass in gear and finish up on those two and get my horde Blood DK Ready for level 90 when 5.4 hits.

Blizz knows how to annoy me...

Wow, that's typical, right after I had decided that they will probably never fix this bug and queued for the Kotmogu BG (where they can also be found) just for this achievement. I really hate PvP (might be from the fact that I really suck at it and never win) so I had to break my iron rule never to set foot in a BG so as to not embarass the pro-PvP players with my meager performance.

And a week later, Blizz fixes the bug? I'm annoyed :P

Problem located?

Great, now the revision history of this guide is totally messed up ;)

I think I may have located the problem that causes the Whitepetal Lake (attacked) quests to show up in the guide at seemingly random times: When I turn in one of the "Go to" quests that sends the player from one quest hub to the next, the guide always seems to jump either to the Whitepetal Lake (attacked) quests or simply to the far end of the guide. However, when I then reset the guide and check off the steps I have done so far, the correct questhub shows up instead. So my guess is that the addon somehow jumps to the next step in the guide before the "go to" quest is registered as completed by the game, thus not counting the "go to" quest for the |PRE| tags of A steps in other questhubs.

Maybe Ludo could take a look at that if his time allows it (and if he understood my clumsy interpretation of why the problem occurs :P).

reset

That makes sense with what I've seen other places too.  Either the daily reset doesn't work right. or I have the wrong expectations of it.  If I come back to use the guide the next day, shouldnt it start at step one? (i.e. usually a N step) None of the dailies guides seem to be resetting that way, but I may be expecting something that is not what was designed??

I do not get the N End of Guide message on most (all?) dailies guides unles I choose reset guide off of the menu.

I just saw the two changes you made to the guide recently. Damn, I wish I would've known about the Golden Water Skimmer before I did the questguide, now I have to do the ach on a toon :(

But as to the change of the LEAD tags on the last questhub, I don't really understand why we suddenly get these steps shown. I never had to click off these steps manually when I used the guide back in the day... Maybe some recent changes to the addon code produced this as a side-effect. If that is the case, I don't think changes to the numbers in the LEAD tag will remedy the problem.

Anyway, I guess your intent was to put the, let's say, "Final Boss Quests" of the questline each day in there? If so, you made a couple of mistakes: 30264 (Enemy at the Gates), 30277 (The Crumbling Hall) and 30280 (The Thunder Below) are NOT among these final boss quests, especially since the player can only get The Crumbling Hall and The Thunder Below after reaching Revered. And I guess 30255 is a typo, since that is the quest "Learn and Grow III: Tending Crops" which has nothing to do with the Golden Lotus.

Since I'm not sure if these final boss quests WERE your intent, I'm just listing their correct QIDs here in the comments and you can correct the guide itself accordingly if my assumption was correct: 30225;30227;30233;30234;30235;30236;30239;30248;30249;30251;30296;30297;30302

In the research I did for

In the research I did for the dancing water skimmer (apparently I tried to unilaterally change its name to golden.. its actually dancing).  I found that there are several ways around it.  If you are into pet battles, you can do battles in the vale and have a good chance of getting the golden water skimmer to show up as a secondary, then you can tame it and /love the captured version.  Other options include having a druid (who hasnt yet done the golden lotus quests)  with glyphed charm woodland creatures drag one out of the phased area,  having anyone else iwth critter snacks who hasn't done the golden lotus quests lure one out.  Some people reported finding the golden water skimmer after exalted with Golden Lotus, others said no. I /loved it before I started golden lotus, so cant personally comment. The last option is they are found around a small pond in the  Battleground - Temple of Kotmogu

As to my other change.  The reason I did it was after several days of having to manually check them off, I mapped out all the possible paths and came to the conclusion that the best way to fix it was use as leads all the final quests (for the other areas), with the logic being that if you have done the final boss quest for another area, you won't be offered whitepetal under attack after that.  I thien implemented it on my own copy and ran with it 2 or 3 days, it seemed to work, altho I never got sent there to completely test it (i.e. see if the guide would tell me to go there) At least the guide didn't tell me to get those quests when they wern't offored.  That being said... I'm still not sure this is the best solution.

As to the reason I didnt use all the final boss quests, I was trying to use all the ones for the OTHER areas, I would have to agree that 30255 is a typo (probably should be 30225 at a guess)

What follows is speculation and ramblings. I am working on proving or disproving, but do not have enuough data points for a conclusion.

I have been pondering the fact that there are multiple go to quests for the various locations.  I suspect, but havent been tracking it long enought to be sure, that one of the seemingly duplicate quests is given only at friendly, and is the pre-req telling the game to only offer you one more quest hub instead of the 2 more you get at honored.  I will have to track which one a char gets next time I take them thru and see if that is consistant.  31242 Mistfall Village was given at friendly the one time I checked... more research is needed, just thought I'd share what I have found. Also, its possible (but RNG is ... RNG. so I havent got enough for a pattern) that you only get Whitepetal Lake attacked while at friendly.  At least that is the case for both of my characters so far. one exalted, one honored).  I need to start writing down which hubs I get each day at each faction level to know that... And since my time isn't infinate, I don't know when I will get around to it ;)

oops. wrong spot

i made a nice reply... then realized I had it as a reply to my own post, so meant to copy and paste it to new one... but it seems I just deleted it :(

Estelyen's picture

I hear you, you ran into the

I hear you, you ran into the same problems I did when I wrote the guide :P I simply ignored the problem with the multiple go to quests for each location, since as you said RNG is RNG, so I guess one can never be sure if there isn't another quest that only happens at a specific reputation level that you never got yet. I simply put ALL of the various quests (looked them up at wowhead in the hopes that at least a database where so many players pour data into is exhaustive) without any |RANK| tags into the A steps, so that whichever reputation the player is, whichever quest the game offers him, the guide should recognize it and send them on the correct way. So unless you really want to take that tedious bit of work upon yourself, I suggest you ignore the problem, as I did; the guide should work fine as it is xD

Btw, I still get Whitepetal Lake (attacked) at exalted although pretty rarely.

As to the final boss quests: Yes, I already realized that you only meant those from the other areas, otherwise it wouldn't have made any sense at all :P But as I said, besides the typo you made some mistakes there and I looked up all the correct QIDs for the boss quests (except Whitepetal Lake attacked) and put them in my last post.

I still don't really see the need though, since the |LEAD| numbers I had used were those quests with which Leven Dawnblade sends the player away from the Golden Pagoda, which naturally means that after having done one of them, the player won't be getting Whitepetal Lake (attacked) that day. Both methods should work the same... But as I said, maybe some recent code changes caused a problem with my previous method that I didn't see yet :P

well theories rarely survive exposure to the real world :(

I started a new char (Rogue) on GL dailies yesterday and I got 31242 Mistfall Village, so far my theory was working.  Then I went to my hunter who is currently honored and she also got 31242... my theory was blown out of the water. :( *now I wonder if 31249 Mistfall Village actually still exists* I didnt try it with my pally who is exalted since I ran out of time (I wanted to do ShadoPan and AC with her)

As luck would have it, for reasons I truely can't explain, the guide showed my rogue should go to whitepetal lake attacked (the chain I was trying to fix...) thus showing my fix failed, so I will be reverting it and will ponder some more.  I really don't know whyt it had that effect, but it showed the A steps checked off (after she turned in Loe-Fe-the boss quest for mistfall) and had the C steps listed for me to do.  It didnt behave that way with my characters who had 3 quest hubs and I really don't know why it does for 2... but having to manually check off(skip) 4 quests is better than having the guide showing you picked them up and that you should now do them..

I have not been watching any

I have not been watching any conversation with this.  However, I did extensive work with the Golden Lotus dailies for Grail.  Both 31242 and 31249 did exist and were obtainable before patch 5.1 (I have not been back to check for a while because other things occupy time now).  Grail marks them as:

[31242]={[0]='Mistfall Village',[1]='K0902 L090 A:58408 T:59338 I:31131,31243,V0231 P:30307+W0041+W0061+W0031+W0051'},

[31249]={[0]='Mistfall Village',[1]='K0902 L090 A:58408 T:59338 P:W0234 I:31248,31250 V4F550999'},

For 31249 you need to have Honored repuation with Golden Lotus (V4F550999) and you need to have completed the four Whitepetal Lake invasion quests (P:W0234), and not accepted (or completed) 31248 or 31250 (I:31248,31250).  However, for 31242 you need to have not accepted (or completed) 31131 or 31243 or ANY of the Whitepetal Lake invastion quests (I:31131,31243,V0231), and you need to have completed all of the starting quests at the pagoda (P:30307+W0041+W0061+W0031+W0051).Note that Grail still has an issue with a couple quests I never experienced and I will eventually get back to those.  And a late discovery that needs verifying will make one of the rules change slightly (but should not really impact anything else).  As far as I know, Grail's Golden Lotus rules are the most accurate.  If you want me to explain how Grail believes the quests work there, let me know.

I forgot to mention that if you are using Wholly and Grail, you should be able to select the quest in question and get a tooltip that shows prerequisites and incompatabilities with the quest.

Emmaleah's picture

my head hurts :)

I expect once I process what yiou said it will make total sense. I just spent 5 hours doing data entry from numbers excel on one side of my not big enuf monitor to an application on the other side and my brain is a bit frazzled I'm afraid. and allow me to set LEAD/PREs correctly and solve this delima (no I don't obsess over stuff... not me)

I had looked in grail. but for some reason it was only showing me 31242 (one of the reasons I thought maybe 31249 was deprecated) I guess I have some option set wrong.  (but... I was on the right track... 31249 does require honored, its just that 31242 is not limited to neutral-friendly)

The hard thing to do is to

The hard thing to do is to determine how to represent the "real life" rules that we experience in game play to codes that the addons can interpret.  What makes it even worse is to try to guess why we are experiencing something in the game.  I have made assumptions in the past and later had them disproved.  For example, I used to have a whole bunch of rules indicating that specific quests at MIstfall Village were not compatible with others based on what I had experienced.  But over time I was able to finally disprove assumptions, and then decided just to group them and deal with group counts.  (The best example of group counts is the Anglers where you get three from twelve.  Grail has no idea what ones you are going to get, but once you have accepted three all the rest are no longer available.  (But you can have some from a previous day which is really annoying.))

If you are trying to do analysis using Wholly to examine the Grail data, make sure you turn on both prerequisites and unobtainable.  One of the reasons is the reputation requirement for the Golden Lotus data will make quests unobtainable if you do not have enough rep.  I think I will be changing the data to make it so they appear to fail prerequisites instead.  However, that will not be until next release at the earliest.

Rewrite

My mother's on the road to recovery, but now my father's fallen ill, so christmas got even further postponed and I found time to do a thorough rewrite, in which I did two things:

1. I compressed each instance of multiple accept steps with different |PRE| tags into a single step thanks to Ludos changes to the code of the addon.

2. As WoW Patch 5.1 changed a lot of daily quests concerning how many mobs a player has to kill, I had recently done some revisions to the guide, but while doing this rewrite, I decided that it's kind of stupid to leave the numbers in the |N| tags, since the addon provides them in an extra line of text anyways. Also, Blizzard might change the quests again in 5.2, then I would have to go through those numbers AGAIN. So I removed them entirely-

The only thing that worries me a little bit is here:

Previous code:

A Lao-Fe the Slavebinder|QID|30239|PRE|30237|LEAD|30639|N|Accept this follow-up from your questlog.|

A Lao-Fe the Slavebinder|QID|30239|PRE|30237;31245|N|Accept this follow-up from your questlog.|

A Lao-Fe the Slavebinder|QID|30239|PRE|30237;30282|N|Accept this follow-up from your questlog.|

New code:

A Lao-Fe the Slavebinder|QID|30239|PRE|30237|LEAD|30639|N|Accept this follow-up from your questlog.|

A Lao-Fe the Slavebinder|QID|30239|PRE|30237;31245+30282|N|Accept this follow-up from your questlog.|

First of, in this particular case, I was unable to compress all three steps into one, as on of them deals with a |LEAD| tag instead of just another |PRE|, so I left it in two seperate steps. Second, I'm not quite sure if the second step in the new code will work correctly. In this case, the prequest logic should look like

"Quest30237 AND (Quest31245 OR Quest30282)"

but I'm not sure if the code will interpret it like that.

If a "+' is found, then it will split the tokens up along the '+' characters and then interpret the tokens as quest IDs.So this will look for QID '30237;31245' and fail.  Handling both ;'s and +'s is cosiderably more complicated, but if it is needed, I'll add it to the queue.

I would back this out for now and double up the 'A" step like you did before, but using the ';' for PRE|30237;31245| and PRE|30237;30282| .

Estelyen's picture

Ok I reversed those steps to

Ok I reversed those steps to the previous version. Not a very aesthetic looking code, but at least it'll work like it should.

Complete boolean logic would be really helpful here, as you could probably even compress all three steps into one if the logic would include a NOT tag:

"Quest30237 AND (Quest31245 OR Quest30282 OR (NOT 30639))"

Damn, I think I need to resume my online C++ lessons, now I'm really eager to continue real programming. Problem with that is, that the tutorial is really long and every time I intend to really get into it this time, I'm always losing interest after a few days again :P

The Calculus of Questing

I was thinking that what I really want is something that can query the state of a quest (Not on, Active, Complete) and do the boolean logic.

So your expression would be C30237&(C21245+C30282+(~C30639)) in the context of a PRE tag, which by default wants ALL quests completed.

But this syntax would let you roll ACTIVE, PRE and a bunch of other stuff together and more by using the other state tags.  We could say "do this quest if you have completed quest X, are on quest Y and are not on quest Z".

Hmm, but I think this is what Tepes proposed a while back, because that is what he does in Grail.

More thinking needed.

Guide skips A steps?

I don't know if its always been this way, I dont remember it, but the last few times I have run through the golden lotus guide, when I pick up the first quest at Whitepetal Lake, it skips to the C step for that quest rather than moving down to the A line that immediately follows. I'm pretty sure I have seen this elsewhere, but not always. (at the beginning of the guide you pick up all the quests at the golden pagoda and it works great)

Excerpted from guide:
A Random Daily from He Softfoot|QID|30313;30314;30341|PRE|31131|N|Accept the random daily that He Softfoot offers.|M|43.65,46.08|

A Random Dailies from Ren Firetongue|QID|30265;30284;30291;30338;30342|PRE|31131|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Ren Firetongue offers. This step will close when you accept the first one.|M|42.30,46.02|

A Random Dailies from Merchent Tantan|QID|30339;30340|PRE|31131|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Merchent Tantan offers. This step will close when you accept the first one.|M|42.22,45.94|

Also, while I was looking to see if I could figure out anything... (which I couldn't) I was wondering, if PRE can except multiple quests with OR logic, so instead of having this:

A Random Dailies from Anji Autumnlight|QID|30200;30226;30228|PRE|31240|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Anji Autumnlight offers. This step will close when you accept the first one. If she doesn't offer any dailies, click this step off manually instead.|M|33.98,38.11|

A Random Dailies from Anji Autumnlight|QID|30200;30226;30228|PRE|31248|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Anji Autumnlight offers. This step will close when you accept the first one. If she doesn't offer any dailies, click this step off manually instead.|M|33.98,38.11|

A Random Dailies from Anji Autumnlight|QID|30200;30226;30228|PRE|31294|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Anji Autumnlight offers. This step will close when you accept the first one. If she doesn't offer any dailies, click this step off manually instead.|M|33.98,38.11|

A Random Dailies from Anji Autumnlight|QID|30200;30226;30228|PRE|31296|N|Accept ALL the daily quests Anji Autumnlight offers. This step will close when you accept the first one. If she doesn't offer any dailies, click this step off manually instead.|M|33.98,38.11|

You could combine them into one line with something like |PRE|31240:31248:31294:31296| note ":" (colen) for OR ";" (semicolen) for AND or something along those lines.

Estelyen's picture

I have no idea why the guide

I have no idea why the guide skips those steps for you, it worked fine for me last time I was doing dailies in that area...

As to the PRE tag, I asked Ludo about AND/OR logic back when I was doing the Firelands daily guide, but I can't find that post anymore. I think he said that he would think about adding that feature but I never heard from it again :P

I tried compressing those multiple A steps into one, but the addon just didn't know how to handle it. If you separate the PREs with a semicolon ";" it will work as an AND operator and that's not how I wanted it to work. Thus I had to make multiple steps with different PRE tags, so that whichever prequest the player gets, they will always be told to accept the quest.

Prequest - OR logic

ya... that was mostly to remind Ludo that I thought it would be useful :) (I remember the previos discussion on the topic)

Ludovicus's picture

RE: Prequest - OR logic

Ludo does need reminders.

Ludo spent some time digging into the quest accept logic, which was not working right for the World Events module, for getting the Winter Veil gifts, of all things.   The fix for the immediate problem was a simple one liner bug fix, but in the process, I found a bug in the way A steps with multiple QIDs get completed.   It turns out there is a race condition where it is possible that it can complete the current step AND the next.  I had thought that the bug was restricted to my QID|*| hack, but I too saw it on the Lotus Dailies.

I suspect that Blizzard may have changed the timing or sequence of some of the events and that it is screwing things up.

As to the multiple PRE clauses, the dailies module supports an extended syntax:

|PRE|1;2;3|    ; quest 1 and 2 and 3 must be completed

|PRE|1+2+3| ; quest 1 or 2 or 3 must be completed

I used it in the Argent Tournament guide.   I need to move the logic to the general NextStep parser and not make it daily specific and document it.

Estelyen's picture

When was this implemented?

When was this implemented? There wasn't a changelog about it, was there? Well, ok, time for me to rewrite the guide with this method :P

However, Christmas Eve was delayed for our family since my mother came down with an infection of the middle ear and we've agreed to celebrate christmas this evening instead, so I probably won't be able to do it today.

I implemented it here:

https://github.com/Jiyambi/WoW-Pro-Guides/commit/700c0a15645cc800b0fdbc101c1d3b9bcb82f5eb

about 7 months ago!   I recall the discussion, but other than the one liner in the release notes, I doubt I made a big fuss about it. The same patch  claimed to have added it for the firelands dalies, but I dont think it ended up being used.   I do need to update the documentation right after I cut Boxing Day release.

Prequel

Yeah, I deliberatley left out these prequel-quests since a great part of it (up to completing "A Witness to history") is already present in the Kun-Lai leveling guide. That's why I put the opening N step in: "You need to be lvl 90 and have opened the Vale of
Eternal Blossoms as described in the Kun-Lai Summit leveling guide to do
these quests."

I admit it had been some time after hitting 90 that I decided to do a Golden Lotus guide and I couldn't really remember this introduction all too well... I guess if a player completes the Kun-Lai guide and then starts with this one, only turning in "A witness to history" and the quest to go to the faction capital are missing.

I don't think it makes any difference whether these quests are in this guide or in the Kun-Lai leveling one, since being level 90 is not required for those as far as I remember. At least I know for sure that there are no mobs to fight in them. The first quests that have to do with fighting lvl 90 mobs already are in the golden lotus guide.

Temple of the White Tiger Chain

Makes sense to me.  I purposefully didnt put the last two steps into the Kun-Lai guide since the odds were pretty low that you would be 90 at that point, but maybe they ought to be there also. (I think I put a comment to that effect on the T step for A Witness to History).

I can't really imagine why finishing that chain and buying flying wouldnt be pretty much the first thing one does upon hitting 90, but based on things I have read on wowhead, it obviously isn't for some anyway :).  That reminds me that I need to add that to the Into note for cload serpants.

Isnt there one more step, I swear there was in beta, where you go from the celestial gate to the golden pagoda, then from there to your respective faction cities? (its been at least a week since I have done it... I can't remember)

oh. and  all of your steps  in Kun Lai need |Z|tags :)

RE: Temple of the White Tiger Chain

Yeah, what happend was that my DK hit 90 ver y early in Kun-Lai and I had not hit that part of the guide and then I ran off to do the Golden Lotus Dailies and then nothing!

I had already had the flight point because I was sneaking around doing the Hallows End guide which gave me the extra rep and just needed to unlock enough the the Golden Lotus chain so that villiage would get phased in.

Turned out I had not done the "go to your shrine" quest and that I HAD to buy flying.   Since I had just blown all my $$$ on updating equipment this made me very sad, so I soloed low level dungeons and killed rares and sold stuff on the AH till I could get all my money.

Well, time for a herb crusted chicken roasted on a bed of diced turnip, carrots, small potatoes, and celery with a fresh loaf of bread and a bottle of wine.

Re: OK, Now I am hungry.

It was a birthday dinner for a friend of mine.   They get to choose their favorite comfort food and I make it.  He wanted a simple roast chicken with root veggies.   I added a nice bottle of a Spanish red and some cinnamon brioche for dessert.

Oh, and just before he arrived for dinner, I had him subjected to his first deep tissue massage as my treat.   The chap hangs wallpaper and paints for a living, so he wrecks his arms, shoulders, and back for a living.   I use the masseuse myself after I run a half marathon, so I know he is pretty decent.

Guide complete

My previous progress update post was deleted for some reason, let's hope this post will not be :P As the EU realms are still offline after nearly 12 hours of maintenance today, I've had some time to finally fix the last issues with my guide. It's as ready as I can make it right now.

As I mentioned in the deleted post, there are some quests that I've never been offered, I filled those in on best guess using data from WoWHead:

Quest in Whitepetal Lake (peaceful): The Soul-Gatherer

Quest in Whitepetal Lake (attacked): Behind our Lines

Quest in Mistfall Village (peaceful): Clearing in the Forest

Quests in Mistfall Village (attacked): Baolai the Immolator, Gaohun the Soul-Severer

Quest in Ruins of Guo-Lai (attacked): He Knows What He’s Doing

Also, some other problems with this guide remain:

1. The Ruins of Guo-Lai (peaceful) quest-hub features three questgivers, each of them is able to offer one or two dailies each day. If the questgiver whose accept step I put in last in the guide offers two quests, one of them is not stickied correctly since the A step closes and the guide already proceeds once the first quest is accepted. I have no idea how I can circumvent that problem

2. That exact same problem applies to the Ruins of Guo-Lai (attacked) quest-hub

3. WoWHead no longer seems to record achievement step data, so I'm not 100% sure all the ACH tags for multiple-step-achievements will work correctly

And lastly, some bugs I found that I rather think are inherent to the addon than my guide. The first two issues are possibly related:

1. Some quests (most noticably Random Golden Pagoda quests from anji autumnlight as well as "The Eternal Vigil", but several others as well) always make the guide return to their respective A steps when I turn them in, however when I have reset the guide several times before turning the quests in it works like it should

2. When I get a dungeon invite or log out in the middle of the guide and return afterwards, the addon tells me to accept most of the quests I have already done today once more

3. some |N| tags get abbreviated by a "..." for some reason and I have to open the display settings and change something to have it display the complete |N| text correctly (usually only once after login/dungeon return)

Guide so far

Since the User Way2hairy is getting anxious for a guide, I thought I'd upload what I have done so far, maybe we can work together on the rest. Or as I said below, the other factions are still free for the taking if you'd rather write a guide for any of those: http://wow-pro.com/node/3500

WoWPro-Team: Please do not yet include this guide in the addon, it is not finished.

Things that are still missing from it because I was never yet offered any of them:

The complete Whitepetal Lake (attacked) questhub (haven't found a quest that leads to it on wowhead, so I'm not even sure if this one wasn't taken out after beta)

Quests in Mistfall Village (peaceful): Clearing in the Forest

Quests in Mistfall Village (attacked): Wu Kao Scouting Reports, Freeing Mind and Body

Quests in Setting Sun Garrison: Survival Ring Flame, Survival Ring Thunder, Mantid under Fire, Lost Scouts, Along the Serpent's Spine, No Reprieve

The complete Ruins of Guo-Lai (peaceful) questhub

The complete Ruins of Guo-Lai (attacked) questhub

Progress update

Just wanted to let you know, I'm still on it^^ I won't upload the latest guide progress until it's finished since Way2Hairy has found his destiny with the Klaxxi and uploading all the time will only mess up the guide's Revision History. But I am in the middle of Revered with the Golden Lotus now and found some more dailies that I mentioned as missing in my comment above.

The new list of things still missing from my guide:

Quests in Mistfall Village (peaceful): Clearing in the Forest

Ruins of Guo-Lai (attacked): Offering a Warm Welcome, He Knows What He’s Doing

The complete Ruins of Guo-Lai (peaceful) questhub

I mentioned in my earlier post that the Whitepetal Lake (attacked) questhub might have been removed after the MoP Beta since I couldn't find a quest leading to it on wowhead, but it DOES exist. That sneaky bastard just doesn't have a quest leading the player to it, since the quests are offered at the Golden Pagoda where the player is at that point in the questline anyway :P

Golden Pagoda Only So Far

After a lot of reading and research I think I have a handle on basic guide writing for this addon.  Thanks to Crackerhead22 for his Tol Barad Peninsula daily guide and Emmaleah for her Townlong Steppes guide which I disected to learn enough to get this project started.

These are only the starting daily quests you get from the Golden Pagoda.  I will be adding the rest of the Golden Lotus dailies soon, but wanted any tips, tricks or feedback on making this better in hopes of avoiding as many mistakes as possible going forward.

Two things I need help with.

1.  Not sure how to incorporate reputation to make some quests available or some quests no longer available or where to find out what rep is required for certain quests.

2.  When I use the target function is there a way to put a mark on the target which will make it easier to spot?

Thanks for any feedback.

Oh, and lastly, if I am not posting this in the right place just delete it and let me know where it should go or who I should send it to.

Sorry

Sorry to break it to you, but there was an announcement a week ago where Ludo was searching for people to write the dailies guides, and I'm afraid that I already signed up for Golden Lotus before you ;)

If you want to take up another faction instead, most of them are still free for the taking, see here: http://wow-pro.com/node/3500

I'm a lot farther in my guide than the one you wrote here, but I'll look at yours and see what I can incorporate into mine, maybe yours is better than mine in some places.

I wasnt sure how easy or hard it would be to write a guide.  Therefore, I was reluctant to sign up for any of them.  And after looking at what you have done I dont think there is going to be any part of mine that is better than yours.  In addition I can see I still have a lot to learn and may just keep practicing on my own until I am cofident I can do as well of a job.

Random Quests

I love this addon and decided to try and write a guide and chose the Golden Lotus dailies for my first attempt.  Everything was going swell until I realized that the quests available on any given day are random.  I believe other reputation dailies are similar.

How do you program the addon to know which quests to pick up, perform and turn in?

I dont know that this is the right answer but I will chime in with my 2bits.

On the Fishing/Cooking Dailies guides (which confuse me why one would need..,. but thats a differant issue) They start with pick up the daily quest (one of five) then then it lists the QID's for all the quests.  THen there is a  C line(s) for each quest followed by all the T lines.  I assume it only shows the C and T steps for the quests you have in your quest log as part of the parsing logic.

To shorten what I just said... look at the guide written for almost any of the dailies in Cata, they all had random ones on differant days, and dont forget to use rep tags as some quests may become available (or cease to be available) as your rep increases.
