[WotLK] Cooking

Cooking is a profession that provides flavor to the game, no pun intended. Most mobs labeled as beasts have common drops for cooking. You can also take up fishing which will ease the pain of cooking and make the trip to Grand Master easier. This guide will support several options for everyone, even those with a strong aversion to fishing.

Several of the patterns I have mentioned are obtained through quests but have a faction alternate that can be obtained by vendor. If you have finished these quests in the past and have sold or trashed them, you will need to find a way to obtain them through the opposing faction vendor or find an alternative. The only quest that both sides can do is for the Smoked Desert Dumplings.

Desert Dumplings

The quest you need to get this recipe is Desert Dumplings which is given by the Calandrath, the innkeeper of Cenarion Hold. Calandrath will send you out to find a recipe the Twilight’s Hammer use to prepare sandworm. The scroll can be found at 37, 45 which will start you on the second portion to return to Calandrath with Sharing the Knowledge. Upon completion you will learn how to make Smoked Desert Dumplings, of which you might want to hang onto at least 10 of these. You can do the quick follow-up Kitchen Assistance for a little gold, rep, and maybe experience if you’re not at the cap yet.

Runn Tum Tuber Surprise

As an alternative to Desert Dumplings should you not be able to obtain the recipe for some reason you could try Runn Tum Tuber Surprise. This is an uncommon drop from a boss mob in Dire Maul:

Pusillin: Recipe: Runn Tum Tuber Surprise

To engage Pusillin you need to enter through the East sides Northern/Front Entrance [MAP]. Most would recommend if you are familiar with the event that you clear the path all the way to the back entrance to Dire Maul located at the Laris Pavilion just north of Camp Mojache in Feralas. If you are not familiar with the event there are plenty of walk-thrus on how to go about this, but you can simply talk to him and he’ll run away to start the event. Clear the path along the top tier till you find him again, if you are below level 70 you will NOT be able to avoid the the Warpwood Crushers even if you try to walk along the courtyard ledge. You may have to make this run once or twice, but this pattern is almost a guaranteed drop.

Once you have obtained this recipe you will be need to farm the Warpwood Pods scattered all about the instance. Be wary, they have a chance to backfire and either spray you with toxic green mist or spawn 3 to 5 Whip Lashers, but you should be able to get enough for that final run to 300.

Update 1OK, it didn’t work as well as I thought.

I was at 403 and had 44 shoveltusk meat. After cooking all 44 I was only at 424.

    It was a nice thought….

Dalaran Daily CookingI have 4 in Dalaran right now doing the Dailies. I don’t have any suggestions (and am hoping to get some) on how to get from 375 to 400, but I do know that after the first 2 toons struggled to get to 425, I found a way to help that 400-425 grind.

I had fished for quite a bit of time to get Manta Rays for that cooking recipe, and after sending two stacks of 20 to my 400+ cook, I gained maybe 3 or 4 cooking points. Pretty disappointing.

I had been grinding on things with the daily JC quest and was in the area where all the Shoveltusks are in Howling Fjord and decided to get two stacks of 20 of the Shoveltusk Meat to send to my cook. I figured I’d get 3 or 4 points out of it, but to my surprise I was at 425 and still had 10 or 12 meat left.

This isn’t 100% proven yet, but when you get to Dalaran and start doing the Cooking Dailies, I would suggest that once you get to 400 and have 3 Dalaran Cooking Awards to get the Tracker Snacks recipe first.

Once again, YMMV, and I will post more info when my next cook gets to 400.

Pattern vs recipe?A question/comment – in EU does WoW call ‘recipes’ patterns? I know what you mean referrignt o the location of patterns, just curious. In my WoW time a pat or pattern is generally referred to (in the US) as NPC/mob with a set route.

Nice guide as to the materials needed and the location of the outland recipes. There are a few I haven’t bought yet, now I can make the circuit and pick them up.

Didn’t know that you could collect all the mats in Tanaris for the artisan either – makes that much simpler!

    Thanks for writing this.

300-375Had a friend working on cooking and I e-mailed him this to get the Outland recipes.

I’m assuming you’ll be going to Outland via the Dalaran to Shatt portal.

Fly to Allerian Stronghold and go to the Inn and get Golden Fishsticks (325) and Spicy Crawdad (350)from the Innkeeper. Supply Officer Mills is just west of the Inn (55.7, 53.1) and has Blackened Basilisk (315) and Warp Burger (325). Fly to Honor Hold and talk to the Butcher at the Inn to get the Master Cookbook. Sid Limbardi is also in the Inn and has Ravager Dog (300). Fly to Toshley’s Station and get Crunchy Serpent (335) and Mok’Nathal Shortribs (335) from Sassa Weldwell (61.3, 68.9). She’s inside one of the buildings there. Fly to Orebor Harborage and get Blackened Trout (300) and Feltail Delight (300) from Doba (42.3, 27.9). Head to Sporeggar next, picking up 3 Glowcaps on the way. Mycah (17.9, 51.2) has Clam Bar (300 – 1 Glowcap) and Sporeling Snack (310 – 2 Glowcaps). Make your way back to Orebor Harborage and fly to Telredor, then ride to Cenarion Refuge. Juno Dufrain (78, 66.1) has Blackened Sporefish (310). Ride back to Telredor and fly to Telaar. Uriku (56.2, 73.3) has Poached Bluefish (320), Grilled Mudfish (320), Roasted Clefthoof (325) and Talbuk Steak (325).

Once you get to 320 cooking, Kylene (75.7, 32.6 Shatt) can teach you Stewed Trout and at 350 can teach you Fisherman’s Feast and Hot Buttered Trout.

Not sure if you can use this info in your guide or not, but maybe someone else can use it.

Yep, I went ahead andYep, I went ahead and published it only because the wife needed a guide right away. I’ll be adding in several different guides into this one as I go. And for BC and WotLK there are MAYBE 7 patterns to get from 300 to 450 easily.

I’ve decided to go ahead andI’ve decided to go ahead and publish this guide for my wife as she is trying to work on her cooking for her death knight. Feel free to comment!

I know that many other people have published similar guides and I do recommend that people check those out as well, this one was done for my wife, and dedicated to her, but for all to try.
