![]() Introduction With the new expansion WoTLK coming, many new features have been added since patch 3.0.2. The new profession Inscription is one of them. Inscription is different from any profession to date while utilizes a lot of traits for other professions. The biggest difference between Inscription versus any other profession is at skill level 50+, you can start making "end game" items and glyphs (end game in the sense that level 70-80 players will want to use the items you've created). Glyphs are unique in that typically no Glyph is "better" then another Glyph - each have their benefits depending on the situation. So whether your making a skill level 75 Glyph or a skill level 375 Glyph both could equally desirable. How it Works: The Three Part Process Inscription is a three part process: Herbs -> Pigment -> Ink -> Glyphs. To create pigments you will have to use the new "Milling" ability to turn stacks of 5 herbs into 2-3 pigments. The type of herb directly affects the type of pigments it creates (see table below). From there you can use pigments to create inks - some inks require a combination of pigments and lower level inks to create. Finally Glyphs generally require a mix of certain inks, parchments (new purchasable item), and herbs to create. Types of Ink and How to Obtain Them ● Ivory Ink = 1 Alabaster Pigment. (Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot) ● Moonglow = 2 Alabaster Pigment. (Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot) ● Midnight = 2 Dusky Pigment. (Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Swiftthistle, Bruiseweed, Stranglekelp) ● Hunter's = 1 Verdant Pigment. Uncommon (Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Swiftthistle, Bruiseweed, Stranglekelp) ● Lion's = 2 Golden Pigment. (Wild Steelbloom, Grave Moss, Kingsblood, Liferoot) ● Dawnstar = 1 Burnt Pigment. Uncommon (Wild Steelbloom, Grave Moss, Kingsblood, Liferoot) ● Jadefire = 2 Emerald Pigment. (Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whisker, Wintersbite) ● Royal = 1 Indigo Pigment. Uncommon (Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar's Whisker, Wintersbite) ● Celestial = 2 Violet Pigment. (Firebloom, Purple Lotus, Arthas' Tears, Sungrass, Blindweed, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood) ● Fiery = 1 Ruby Pigment. Uncommon (Firebloom, Purple Lotus, Arthas' Tears, Sungrass, Blindweed, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood) ● Shimmering = 2 Silvery Pigment. (Golden Sansam, Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom, Icecap) ● Ink of the Sky = 1 Sapphire Pigment. Uncommon (Golden Sansam, Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom, Icecap) ● Ethereal = 2 Nether Pigment. (Found from herbs native to Outland) ● Darkflame = 1 Ebon Pigment. Uncommon (Found from herbs native to Outland) What to Save for Power Leveling Inscription If you follow the list below you will need the following to level 1-375: Any combination of stacks of 5 of the "OR" herbs listed below will work. Example: 60x Liferoot, 100x Kingsblood, 60x Wild Steelboom and 20x Grave Moss would be a total of 240 herbs from that block. ● 140x Peacebloom OR Silverleaf OR Earthroot ● 80x Mageroyal OR Briarthorn OR Swiftthistle OR Bruiseweed OR Stranglekelp ● 240x Wild Steelbloom OR Grave Moss OR Kingsblood OR Liferoot ● 280x Fadeleaf OR Goldthorn OR Khadgar's Whisker OR Wintersbite ● 220(260 to be safe)x Firebloom OR Purple Lotus OR Arthas' Tears OR Sungrass OR Blindweed OR Ghost Mushroom OR Gromsblood ● 220x Golden Sansam OR Dreamfoil OR Mountain Silversage OR Plaguebloom OR Icecap ● 400x Any native Outland herbs Inscription Trainers There is an inscription 1-300 trainer in each of the 4 major cities in Azeroth (just ask a guard for the location) - to train from 300-375 you will need to head over to Hellfire Peninsula in Outland. Alliance Elise Brightletter in Ironforge Horde Jo'mah in Orgrimmar Leveling Inscription Notes on the Guide Scroll of XXXX = Scroll of Agility/Intellect/Spirit/Stamina/Strength Glyph of XXXX = The glyphs that are currently Orange(or JUST turned yellow) and require only 1 Ink when possible. (100% skill up) They normally come in 2's or but occasionally come with just 1 glyph later on. You can do that one glyph or use some other glyph if you want. Any glyph will give 5 more 100% skill ups after it turns yellow, and the next 5 after that will be about 60% the time it will skill up. 1 to 20 20 to ~38 ~38 to ~58 ~58 to 75 75 to 80 80 to 81 81 to 100 - double check every glyph that requires 1 Midnight Ink, they change it up. 100 to 105 105 to 125 125 to ~131 ~131 to ~138 ~138 to 150 150 to 155 155 to 175 175 to 180 180 to ~187 ~187 to 200 200 to 205 205 to 225 235 to 240 240 to 250 - Will probably be normalized to 2 Inks by live, but we'll see. 250 to 255 255 to 260 275 to 290 290 to 300 This seems crazy, but the Ink of the Sky levels make up for these last 10. 300 to 305 305 to 310 310 to 329 329 to 345 345 to 355 (Glyph of Whirlwind) 355 to 365 And you are done! Note that there is a new ink at 350 as well as Glyphs that uses the new ink - but they all require Northrend materials so I skipped it for this guide. 360-365 is BRUTAL as everything is green at this point. At 365 EVERYTHING turns gray - it is not possible to hit 375 at the moment. Note that I did not write this guide, I just edited it. I did the Text Formatting, removed some things, added some things like images, etcetra. Please note that all links are courtesy of WoWhead! Please, leave a comment if: You have any additional information that I should add to this guide. -Shikamaru

Herb locations
Hey, Shikamaru,
I really like this guide, it really helped me. So just as a suggestion maybe you could add in which area(s) you can farm the herbs the best.
The guide is really good and keep on making such great guides
290-300
From 290-300 Scroll of Stamina VI is only 1 Shimmering Ink and 2 Heavy Parchment each, and is orange till 300. MUCH more efficient than making 35 or so glyphs for the same skillups.
Couple of things
Hey Shikamaru,
Great guide, I'm glad you found it for us to follow and edited it ^^ Couple of things I've noticed:
1. Celestial Ink requires x2 Violet Pigment not x1 (possibly changed in a patch after you pasted this here)
2. In comparing guides from the web (and because I just love this site and hate having to leave off of it) I noticed there are a few other guides out there that have more steps. Reason: (example) 120-125 Glyph of XXX 125-135 Glyph of XXX instead of going straight 120-135. Possibly might want to change it up if you get some free time on your hands?
So like A) 120-125 Glyph of XXX B) Train new Glyph's C) Glyph of XXX 125-135... I've noticed that doing this, changing up the glyph you skill from as soon as new ones are available even if every 5 levels will help save on loads of materials.
Just some thoughts ^.^ Otherwise, is perfect! I'm at 205 skill now, if I notice any other changes like the Celestial Inks, I'll post back!

Following your guide
Following your guide currently to level my inscription. All good so far, except i have noticed near the start:
Those particular scrolls use Light Parchment.

Thanks fixed

I'm pretty sure Bleached
I'm pretty sure Bleached Vellum doesn't exist in the game at the moment. All that is orange to me at 58 are Scroll of Recall and Armor Vellum. Scroll of Recall is probably the better choice since it only requires one parchment and one ink.
Might Want to Give Credit to the Original Writers?
http://www.wtbblue.com/profession-guides/204-inscription-1-375 funny since they have a leveling guide as well...

I'm not seeing the funny
I'm not seeing the funny part in that since I didn't get my guide there
And before flaming on me please note this:
1. ''Note that I did not write this guide, I just edited it. I did the Text Formatting, removed some things, added some things like images, etcetra.''
2. They are NOT the original writers, all credits go to 2 players on the WoW-US forums for making this.
Please do proper research before flaming.

Looks great Here's my first
Looks great
Here are my suggestions:
1. Add wowhead links for each item. I know it's a lot of work, but it makes the guide so much better. I've done it for the Ivory Ink to show you how it looks
2. For headlines and titles, I recommend not using underline and italics. Keep it simple like this:
Types of Ink and How to Obtain Them
It's just easier for the eyes to read, and it just looks neater overall
Size=15 / 16 / 17 / 18 is fine. More is too much.

I'd love to, but how
I'd love to do that!
But, the thing is.. I don't know how to do it.
Could you please explain it?
Has it something to do with ''Add code to format text as a link'' ?

Oh, it's really easy. It's
Oh, it's really easy. It's like a normal link, besides you use the wowhead url.
First write the name of the item (it doesn't even have to be the accurate name), like for example:
Arcanite Reaper
Then go to wowhead and search for Arcanite Reaper, copy the url. In this case, the url is http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12784
If you're using the text formatting toolbar, simply select the text, click on the "Add Code to format text as link" button, a window will pop up, paste the wowhead url in there.
Voila
Arcanite Reaper

Thanks
Allright, I got it
If you don't mind, I'll start editing the guide and writing new ones on Friday, since I have school / football training tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks for the information.
Edit: I tried it, and it worked out
This will make it even better
Lots of suffering saved
at 290 now you can mill outland herbs and make them into the ethereal ink. This might not make a difference for those who are using this guide after leveling up an herbing toon from level 1 but on my dk I farmed up all the other levels of herb and this one I was doing in hellfire for the dreamfoil etc, and making ethereal inks for the last 10 levels to 300 seems easier then having to stockpile all those simmering inks for 10 levels.

Edited Primal Farming Guide
I edited my Primal Farming Guide with the wowhead items.
If you could take a look at that, and tell me if it is done correctly, then I am sure I will do it correct with this one too!
