A Fond (and possibly temporary) Farewell

Jiyambi's picture

Hi everyone!

As you've likely noticed, I've become a bit more scarce around the site lately. The truth is, I've been devoting almost all of my time to school and to my new career these days. The little free time I've had, I have wanted to spend with my significant other relaxing. I haven't actually logged into WoW since I posted the last addon update - and before that, I hadn't logged in for roughly two weeks.

I've come to realize that as much as I love this community, and as much as you have all done for me, I think it's time for me to take a step back from everything here. Even with the small amount I've been doing, I'm struggling a bit to keep up with my school work and stressing myself out. And, being a starving college student, I really can't afford to be paying 15$ a month just to stress myself out and not actually play at all.

Therefor, I have decided to cancel my WoW account. Subsequently, I won't be able to update and maintain the addon any longer. Likewise, producing guide and video content here on WoW-Pro is probably not going to happen. I still may log in occasionally and try to take care of some administrative things, but to be honest I've become so burned out on trying to do karma, moderation, and everything on my own that I'm not especially motivated to do this.

Unfortunately, I don't believe we have anyone at the 200 karma mark right now to be promoted to Moderator to help with these issues in my absence - excepting possibly Silvann, but he is in a similar situation as I am and I don't want to put to much pressure on him. If any of the senior contributors is interested in a moderator position, I would suggest sending a message to Jame - I know he does still check the site regularly even if he has been quiet. It's quite possible that, if you've proved yourself to be a helpful member of the community, he might promote you despite a shortage of points.

I want to thank everyone here on WoW-Pro for the wonderful opportunity you gave me with the WoW-Pro addon. Working on this project has had a tremendous effect on my life - not only was it a fun and rewarding experience in and of itself, it gave me a chance to try something that I have subsequently decided to pursue a career in. Plus I've been able to meet all sorts of awesome people!

The future of the WoW-Pro addon should not be in any danger. There are lots of very active and talented developers already working on the project. I am making sure all of the major developers have full privileges to the WoW-Pro addon's database - you should be able to manage the repository fully as well as post updates to the "downloads" section. You guys have been an absolute pleasure to work with, and I've learned so much from you! I'm not going to pick any one person to be "in charge" of the project, and I'll still check the git site frequently to see if anyone has questions I can answer, but at least for now I must step down from actively working on the project.

It's fully possible that I will return to WoW, WoW-Pro, and the addon project in the future. I'm not going to give a time frame because I just don't know how long a break I will need. I will at least be away until March, but after that it's all up in the air.

If you're still reading, thanks for sticking with me through this (extremely) lengthy farewell. Much love to all of you, and best of luck until we meet again!

NOTE: I will be checking this post over the next few days so if you have anything you need me to do or any questions before I fade away into the background, feel free to leave them here.

Nice to have met you Jiya! I

Nice to have met you Jiya! I too am getting stressed out by school and what not, but still enjoy logging into WoW for a break. I haven't had time to devote to the guides like I did last summer. Anyway, when school's out for summer, maybe you'll pop back in for a few months to say Hi =)

That's currently my plan. I'm

That's currently my plan. I'm feeling the urge to play WoW again, though I don't really want to do end game - I want to start up a speed leveling project again like I did a long time ago with the old version of the addon, testing the leveling rates for the addon in each zone so we can see what really is the best path and what could use improvement - I can also try to smooth out the differences in the guide "voice" during that time, sicne that's something we've gotten complaints about. I'll probably do that this summer, so I can stay focused on school this term.

What are we going to do

What are we going to do without you!? :(

You will persevere! I'll

You will persevere!

I'll still be poking around the site occassionally, you haven't completely gotten rid of me! :D

Miss you all

I find myself in a similar situation, but with family. We're transitioning my Grandma to a nursing home and as I only live 7 miles away, I'm in the front lines. I hope to become more active sometime, but no idea when. I haven't logged on to WoW for a month. :(

Jiya, I would never have had the guts to try coding or guide writing without your guidance and support. You will be missed here for sure. Thank you for all you've done here and for me personally. Enjoy life, this isn't a trial run! Hope to see you around!

Thanks Bits. You are an amazing person, I'm really glad you were able to try new things and flex those creative muscles in a new way! I'll still be poking around the site occassionally, so if/when you are able to return to the game and to guide writing, I'll at least say hi :)

You'll be missed, Jiyambi.

You'll be missed, Jiyambi.  But others have stated, RL comes first.  At the end of the day, WoW is just a game (with an awesome community).  Swing back in every now and then, even if it is just to say hi. :)

Best of Luck

I wish you best of luck in all you do. I am sure the add-on is in good hands, and I hope somebody is found to keep the site going strong. Thanks for all your contributions.

You maybe going (well kind

You maybe going (well kind of), but you'll certainly never be forgotten. We all know how much life can change over time, and how juggling too many things can be more of a burden than it's worth. Real life, is always way more important than a website/addon/community related to a game (even one as good as our favourite :D).

Thanks for all the work you put into the addon, and allowing me to get involved with it at an early stage.

Thanks for your time spent on here doing all that you've done.

Anyway, have fun, enjoy life, stay safe.....you'll be back before you know it ;P

/hugs

Thanks very much for the kind

Thanks very much for the kind comments, everyone!

I wanted to add that, if you send me a message via the contact form on my profile here (NOT PM, the contact form message gets sent to my email), you should be able to reach me anytime and I'll respond the same day.

Also, if you need to be able to edit a page here and you are unable to, you can message me in that way and I'll see about transferring ownership of the page.

Real Life

School, career, and those who help us relax have to be your priority. No question. There are only so many hours per day, and a finite number of days per week---and you gotta parcel them out.

Take a break, keep on peeking upon occasion, and give us an update in March. Meanwhile we will keep things going.

Blessings,

Ludovicus Maior

So, you don't have, after

So, you don't have, after all, a time machine to give you unlimited free time as I assumed at first. :p

Seriously, you know I completely understand your farewell. :) Thanks for all that you did for the community here, for the addon and for letting me help you with it here and there (I know some people can be quite possessive). Given the amazing work you did with the addon, I'm pretty sure you'll be quite successful in your career.

As for me, you'd be right... given my own career (and life overall), I'm not "reliable" enough to help WoWPro anymore than what I've been doing lately. All my projects (arrow and dungeons) are already public on github, but I'll be more explicit on their blog entries that anyone is welcome to work on them and/or take over the projects.

Anyway, from my part, this isn't a farewell, but I won't be around much here to be counted on.

Jiyambi, you know how to reach me if you need anything/talk.

Cheers,
Silvann

AWWW Man!! i've been using

AWWW Man!! i've been using this addon for a long time..I sure hope someone keeps it going

That sucks you have to go, but I understand. I really haven't been on WoW or here much either due to health issues. You take care Jiya, and good luck with class.

Thanks Cracker. I felt I owed it to you guys to let you know what was going on and to stop trying to take things on that I wouldn't be able to really finish. I found that I kept saying "I'll look into that when I have time!" and then never having any time :(
