Revision of WoW-Pro Addon from Sat, 2010-11-13 06:01

Ludovicus's picture

WoW-Pro is pleased to present it's brand new, custom coded addon! In the future this addon will be able to bring all of our awesome guides into the game, but for now it is only compatible with leveling guides.

The addon is designed to provide easy, streamlined questing and leveling in a completely customizable package.

More details about the new addon and awesome screenshots after the break.

Download

You can download our addon from:

REQUIRED Addons

The WoW-Pro addon currently REQUIRES TomTom (download here) in order to work properly.

INTERIM USE ONLY: Our addon will now pull coordinates from Lightheaded if none are provided. All coordinates WILL be provided in the future.

Features

Automatic detection of objective completion:

  • Detect quest accept, completion and turn-in
  • Detect travel (in any form)
  • Detection of flight point discovery
  • Detection of Hearth point change
  • Conditionals based on player's class, race, completed quests, and item possession

Completely customizable frame:

  • Size can be changed to display many steps or only one
  • Step explanations can be displayed always or only show on hover over
  • Text can be customized: font, color, and size can be changed
  • Spacing and padding of the guide window can be customized.
  • Border and background texture can be changed or removed
  • Background color can be changed
  • Titlebar displaying zone and progress can be removed

Other awesome features:

  • Integrated quest tracker (can be disabled if desired)
  • Integrated quest item buttons
  • Easily accessed view of entire guide
  • Sortable guide lists
  • Automatic mapping of coordinates with TomTom
  • LDB quick open/close button
  • Profile management for display settings
  • Supports step skipping (the guide knows the difference between a skipped step and a completed step)

Sort-able Guide List

Current Version: 1.7.0

NOTE: This addon is still in a heavy development stage. It is recommended that you delete the WoWPro.lua file in your WTF folder when upgrading to the new version. However, this will result in the loss of manually checked off guide progress and display settings.

New Features

  • Several guide files have been updated
  • Keybindings added!
  • Custom print function tells you when it’s our addon talking to you

Bug Fixes:

  • Serious crash issue related to quest items fixed!
  • Issue related to getting quest objectives fixed
  • Issue related to getting quest entries from the log fixed
  • Taint issues introduced by checking party members fixed
  • Addon now checks if item exists before attempting to set it as a use item.

Known Issues:

  • Unable to check off item - the step probably doesn't have a QID, which means it's a mistake in the guide file. There are sadly still a lot of these around. Try right-clicking the check box, or listing it as sticky. We'll fix these as they find them but we have to be focused more on Cataclysm guides right now. Sorry!
  • Profession Quest Error: Profession-specific quests currently cause the guide to throw an error, because of the changes to the profession window. Will be fixed in the next version!
  • Occasional crash/DC - the addon is causing occasional crashes and DCs. We are working to find the source of this issue - please report any occurrences of this so we can determine the problem! It may have to do with conflicting addons, so if you do experience this problem, try disabling other addons and see if that allows you to continue.

How To Help:

If you'd like to help code, update, or test guide files, head over to our How To Contribute page on gitthub!

Though this addon is now in it's release stage, it's still new. There may be bugs. The best place to report them is on github, but I will respond here as often as I can. Thanks!

Possible Future Features:

  1. Animation for checking off steps (a check mark appears, old quest fades out, other quests move up).
  2. Either integration of the arrow, or permission from TomTom's author to redistribute their addon, maintaining the author's name and the addon's original name (basically leaving the addon untouched).
  3. Support for area vs. patrol vs. player run path type coordinates.
  4. Auto-load a guide based on level
  5. A separate "shopping list" frame which can be opened with a button on the title bar, used for a couple things in the leveling guide but which will get the most use for profession guides.
  6. Improved logic/display for multi-objective steps. Not exactly sure how this would work, but perhaps have "substeps" which are displayed together, and checked off as they are completed.

Possible Future Modules:

  • WoW-Pro Talents - Easy talent recommendations while leveling, for all specs. Possibly include rotation suggestions as well. For players jumping in partway through, it should be able to detect their current talent changes and adjust accordingly, or recommend a respec if the talents are too messed up. Talents should be prioritized to make sure people pick up the most vital ones. Recommendations of glyphs would also be nice.
  • WoW-Pro Dungeons - Guides to dungeons. Easy access while leveling, recommended dungeons for your level and gear. Include gear lists, etc. Step by step guides, preferably with pictures, includes boss kill strategies.
  • WoW-Pro Gold Making - Daily quests, gathering/farming circuits, perhaps even auctioneer advice.
  • WoW-Pro Reputation - Reputation guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Holiday - Holiday guides created using the addon.
  • WoW-Pro Achievements - Other achievement guides.
  • WoW-Pro Professions - Profession and tradeskill guides.

Possible Future Modules:
If I missed you or you think you should be included somewhere else on this list, please let me know! I'm very forgetful!

Interesting possible bug?

Whenever I disable WoWPro from Titan panel or the minimap, The TomTom arrow seems to revert back to the last cordinates that it was given by the addon.

For example, the last guide I had loaded was Kun-Lai Summit because I was looking for the Sturdy Yaungol Spear to finish the guide. Now every time the Addon is disabled or can't load the next guide, it automatically sets the TomTom arrow to point to those coordinates.

On a side note... when I click on a completed guide, instead of moving to the next one, it doubles the step count in the guide selection window and loads a blank guide.

I went back and attempted to verify what happens exactly before I post this and I noticed that the guide does not need to be completed to do it. It is doubling the step count for every guide. Reloading the UI does not fix it. Neither does relogging the toon. You have to restart the game to fix it.

I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you.

Re: Interesting possible bug?

Hmm, that sounds interesting,.

I'll try to see if I can reproducde these bugs you mentioned.

Hendo72's picture

I'm still having the issue

I'm still having the issue where TomTom to will revert to the last cordinates it was given if its not given any by the guide.

I'm not sure if this is a WoW-Pro or TomTom issue.

I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you.

Ludovicus's picture

Re: I'm still having the issue

There is explicit code in the WoWPro:OnDisable() function to WoWPro:RemoveMapPoint() so that no leftover map points exist.

Furhermore,  all our map points are marked as being "persistent=false" so that they do not survive past a logout.

Can you type "/tway list" and copy the output?

Also, let me know the GuideID in which you see this problem.

Also, for the guides in which you see ther "blank" guide.   Could you look at the steps listing and see if there are "uncompleted" steps hanging around?  What are the C/A numbers?

Hendo72's picture

TomTom: You are at (27.58,

TomTom: You are at (27.58, 24.13) in Townlong Steppes' (map: 810, floor: 0)

TomTom: Fragment of Dread - 48.49, 89.46 (map:810, floor: 0)

I used the "remove all waypoints" option and that seems to have cleared up the  problem. I have to wait until the situation comes up again with no cordinates being passed to TomTom to see if it's fixed for certain.

I didn't say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you.

FULL ? more like FOOL !

I followed the video step  by step and one step at a time and I downloaded from the top of this page ( the BIG yellow button ) plus I have it on ignore (on curse ) but still I just get the FOOL version ?!!?

Ludovicus's picture

Re: FULL ? more like FOOL !

OK.  If you followed the directions and you still have the trial version, then there is one remaining possibility:  you might have more than one install of the game on your system and you modified the wrong one.

Follow the directions here:

https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/obtaining-system-files

while you have started the game and put it in the background.  Also follow the directions on that page for determining the game install directory from the shortcut you use to start it and let me now.   Post the information to https://gist.github.com and send me the link or post it somewhere else I can get to it.  Dont bother with actually sending me the game error logs.

Or go into the Curse application and copy the path it has for the location of the game and post it here.

?

I got zipped an unzipped nether will go here ?!?

Guide display crashed. Swatter captured error messages.

I tripped an error in the krasarang_wilds_alliance guide and crashed the addon. The display window started checking the boxes as I completed the steps, but it wouldn't hide the step. I attempted to correct it by disabling and re-enabling the addon using the Titan button. I got a message that it was disabled, but the display did not close. I tried this a few times with no success. I tried reloading the UI and that changed nothing. It took reloading the game to fix it.

I think I found the problem that caused the guide to crash. I don't know why the guide reacted the way it did after that.

I ran the Guide Checker to see if it could tell me where the issue was and that tripped an error (whole different issue). It was at this point I noticed that I'd captured numerous error codes. I have pasted 1 of the messages below. There are at least 14 different messages with the same time stamp.

Re: "RecklessCombat mode" If I

To see if it got turned on, type into your chatbox:

/run print(WoWProDB.global.RecklessCombat)

this should be false. If it is not false:

/run WoWProDB.global.RecklessCombat=false

That was in there for me and a few others to experiment with the guides advancing even when you were still in combat, and certain API functions might be prohibited.

I'll check back in another 6 mounths to see if anyone has replyed by then .  what a waste !

Ludovicus's picture

Re: Doesn't work !

Well, it sounds like either you did not install the full addon in the right place or you are using the Curse Client and it is re-installing the old version.

Are you using the Curse Client?  When you click on the minimap icon, what version does it claim to be?

I downloaded it from here ,

I downloaded it from here , NOT curise ! and now it says "Dependency Missing" what ever that means ?

funny not

you say you don't know what - Dependency Missing is but you show it in the video !

Ludovicus's picture

re: funny not

If that is the error you are getting, it means you have not selected  the "WoW-Pro" base addon.

I showed how to fix it in the video!

Ludovicus's picture

"Dependency Missing"

Neither the word "Dependency" or "Missing" appear in our code.  That message is comming from something else.

So where are you seeing that message?

Is it possible you enabled "WoW-Pro Leveling" without enabling "WoW-Pro" in the addons page?

v2.7  ! see i spent more time

I did everything step by step . I'd watch you do it then I'd do it STOP and wait till the next step .It dose now finally show up but dose NOT work for my players Lv 40 + and still says I'm using the trial version !I do have it on ignore on cruise . the only thing I don't have and could not find was "SWATTER" !

Emmaleah's picture

if Curse is overwriting...

If that is the problem (using curse and overwriting the DL'd correct version) you need to open the curse updater and right click on wow-pro and chose ignore off of the menu. (its about halfway down the menu options)

I got it on Ignore and now it

I got it on Ignore and now it dosen't show it the game !

Zul' Drak

I love this addon and just wanted to say that while I was leveling through Northrend I had just hit level 77 and was looking to see what area I should be questing in. Wow-pro said Zul' Drak. The actual level for Zul' Drak is 74-76 and not 77-78 as the guide said. It might just be a small error or blizzard changed the leveling of that area.

Level 77 was for when it was

Level 77 was for when it was new content and people had very little rested XP. If you do all the zones before, you will be at least 77 when you get there, nowadays with the change to XP and no overwealmong urge, you could easily skip it (although I like the lore there better than storm peaks).  My last characters never did anything past Borean Tundra and are 85... Too much pet battling / dungeons / etc.

Cannot download newest version 2.7.0

The addon page says the newest version is 2.7.0 released on September 10, 2013. When I click download, it is giving me version 2.6.4. I would really like to download the newest version that is for WoW 5.4. Please fix this! Thank you for your guides.

A little confused here...

I recently wrote two guides for the addon, well, one and a half really since the one with the Unborn Val'kyr is not that long, but they are not in the latest version...

http://wow-pro.com/node/3552 and http://wow-pro.com/node/3555

Should I have announced them somewhere to have them put into the addon, on github or twitter or something?

Re: A little confused here...

Nope, you did the right thing already.

If you wanted to take the next step, you need to add them to the guide "sources" page and then I will get an error message when I update guides telling me that there is a guide on the website that is not in GitHub.

The next step would be be to add it to the GitHub repo yourself.  But that is much more involved.

Maybe the website is still

Maybe the website is still malfunctioning but I can't edit the guide "sources" page (erm, you meant http://wow-pro.com/node/3196 right? :P). So I'm assuming that the guides I wrote will be in the next version then?

I don't have permissions to

I don't have permissions to edit that page either.  Are we supposed to?

He said that WOULD be the

He said that WOULD be the next step, that's why I tried xD

Parsing my sentences ...

Well, you ought to have been able to.

I looked at the permissions and "Trusted" members were not permitted to edit plain "page" content.   I've altered that.

Try it again.   You have more than earned the right do that -:).

A few Bugs?

I want to appologise for my english, it's not my native language.  I hope this post makes sense :-)

I have been using the latest version of WoWPro a lot in the past 2 weeks to lvl several chars.  I noticed a few things.

First of all I get these two LUA errors:

This is also a problem that happens most of the time:Outland, Northrend and Pandaria guides are not really working the way they are supposed to work.  The quest gets auto-accepted, but you have to manually click the step.  This causes the guide to skip everything related to that quest and tells you to pick up the next quest (which sometimes isn't available yet before you finish the quest you just picked up)  Sometimes the guide actually continues but most of the time you have to manually click to the next step.Valley of the 4 winds, Kun-Lai Summit, Dread Wastes causes my FPS to drop to 0 - 10.  When disabling WoWPro ingame, my FPS goes back up to 60ish.  Sometimes the FPS drops don't happen, but for most part of the guide they do.  I noticed that a lot of the FPS drops happen once you manually clicked a step in the guide, which most of the time is needed cause the guide doesn't move to the next step automatically.  I tried a clean install and deleting the saved variables in the WTF folder but these problems keep happening.

FPS drops and Lua errors

The latest version (2.6.3) still drops my FPS to 1 - 6 when enabled.  I also get the following LUA-errors.

FPS Drops

I still get FPS drops when WoW-pro is enabled. I am using 2.6.3 version.

problem still with carbonite

i still, with 2.6.3, can't get wow pro to sync with carbonite. When game starts it tells me something to the effect "WoWPro: Waiting for TomTom or Carbonite to init..." x4, then it says "WoWPro: It looks like you don't have TomTom or Carbonite installed. WoW-Pro's guides won't have their full finctionality without it! Download it for free..." then it says "WoWPro: If you have Carbonite installed, do not forget to enable Carbonite's TomTom emulation!..". I do have carbonite (ver: 5.1.6 B292) and the checkbox for the emulation is checked.

Jade Forest Error Message

Hello! First of all, huge props for such an amazing addon; I don't know how I leveled before without it :)

I just wanted to make you aware of a very spammy error that was flooding my chat frame while questing in Jade Forrest (Horde).

Unfortuantely, since I fixed it, I can't give you the exact error message, but it read something like:

Malformed QID (29633T)

For any users reading this, the fix was quite simple. The error is because the quest Zhi-Zhi, the Dextrous, has a QID of 29663, not 29663T.

The fix is as easy as:Navigate to this folder - World of Warcraft\interface\addons\WoWPro_Leveling\Horde\85_86_Emmaleah_JadeForest. Open t his with Notepad.

Press Ctrl+F (for find) then type 29663T and search. There is only one typoed instance of this, so go ahead and delte the T and save :)

Problems I'm having with 2.6.1

I have just finished the Twilight Highlands and didn't have a problem except one way point for a quest turn in almost at the end of the guide was the wrong location.

When I went to go to the next guide lvl 85-86, The Jade Forest, I click on it and it freezes the WoW client. I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get task manager and end process, closing WoW altogether in order to get out of the freeze. I would really appreciate this being fixed because now I can't use your addon since the guide I need always freezes WoW.

The other minor problem that I've had with this version and the last version is that when I right click the guide box and choose either guide list or current guide, it brings up the WoW addon box instead of the intended target. I close it and then right click again on it and then left click the guide list or current guide and it will correctly bring up the intended target on that second try.

Thank you very much for this addon, it is totally awesome! Please fix the Jade Forest so I can use it! I feel lost without your addon! LOL

Peace!
