How To Install:

  1. Download the addon using the big shiny button.

  2. Download TomTom from WoW Interface or Curse. TomTom is important! Without it, you won't see the arrow telling you where to go! Get version v50400-1.0.0 or later.
  3. Unzip the downloaded files into your addons directory. (How do I unzip the file?)

    Windows 7/8 location:

      C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

    Mac location:

      Macintosh Main HD/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons
  4. Log into the game. In the lower left-hand corner of your character select screen, you should see an "Addons" button. Click it. The WoW-Pro addon and TomTom should both be listed. Make sure they are checked, and you're ready to go!

  5. If you have any trouble installing the guide, stop by our Addon Help Chat Room to get help!

You can also visit the WoW-Pro Leveling Addon Troubleshooting Guide, where you'll find a fix for most common issues.

First and second things I look at... 2 Strikes.

I just downloaded the addon for the first time.

I followed the on screen instructions and right clicked then wen to the guid list. The list opened in the world events tab which showed a page full...the top 12 lines of the list had 2 or 3 items per line. That is to say that one line had (guessing) 2-3 events listed and all of the text/fonts were piled on top of each other. It was a MESS! So, I clicked on the top line just to see what would happen. Now it shows Midsummer Fire Fest... and no apparent way to change it.

Fine, let's try the Leveling tab.  I'm on a level 60 DK... click on Hellfire Peninsula. The guide window now shows a step to set my hearth stone to Undercity. What? Why?!?! And that is all it shows. What? Why?!?!

Gylin's picture

Ok, the first step is telling

Ok, the first step is telling you to use your hearthstone to travel to undercity, not set it there. Then use the protal to travel to Blasted land and on the Hellfire.

If you can only see one line of text, look through the display settings options as there are settings in there that allow you to view more, and resize the window. Personally I have mine set to 400x200 with all text set at 10, most of the time ends up showing 4/5 steps at once, so you can see what you'll be doing next. Which would be useful, as the previous guide has you in Blasted Lands, once you'd moved onto the Hellfire one, you'd see there's no point going to Undercity as you'll only be porting back to where you already are.

Lines of text

You should read more carefully. I did not say I could only see one line of text. I said I see many lines, a full  page in fact!

The problem is that the first several lines have more than one line of type per line. I'm not sure how to be much more clear. Perhaps if you think of your printer not advancing and it keeps printing on the same line...letters on top of letters. You can't read them.

Gylin's picture

No I read perfectly fine, the

No I read perfectly fine, the 1st paragraph, you're talking about the guidelist where the lists on multipe tabs show through each other, which is a known problem and easy to workaround by simply clicking one of the tabs at the top (dailies, leveling etc).

The 2nd paragraph, you talking about only being able to see a single line of text in the hellfire guide (the 1st line), and i'm just trying to assertain as to whether or not it's your display settings that are causing the problem, and give you an insight into things that you could do to fix the issue

Carbonite support

I use Carbonite addon alongside your guides, and on characters that I'm leveling, I get the following error message:

"WoW-Pro: It looks like you don't have a recent TomTom installed. WoW-Pro's guides won't have their full functionality without it! Download it for free from www.wowinterface.com or www.curse.com"

Carbonite has its own waypoint arrow and it's coded to be compatible with TomTom. WoW-Pro guide works just fine with Carbonite's waypoint arrow, correctly setting and updating waypoints, so there really is no need to install ANOTHER addon with duplicate functionality. I think you need to update your code to detect Carbonite as well, thus preventing a misleading error message appearing on login.

BTW: The catchpas on this site are EXTREMELY difficult for this human to decipher.

Hyjal Problem

The hyjal guide is listed as finished ( = / = ) cant remember the numbers exactly. Anyway, I have only actially completed about 100 hyjal quests but because of this I cannot go back to the hyjal guide because the add-on thinks it has been completed. I have checked the written version of the guide and it definitely doesn't end there, (around the quest where you throw bear cubs outta trees). Is there any way I can reset the progress of the guide? I have tried reinstalling. I believe this may have been caused by skipping a few quests.

I've been using the addon for

I've been using the addon for a while and a couple things have been bugging me:

1). If you have the addon set to auto scale to a certain number of steps, lets say 10. When you get to a sticky step you gain 1 line for the "as you go", 1 or more for the number of sticky steps, then the 10 actual steps. What you end up with is a frame that is actually atleast 12 steps high and may interfer with your UI config(it does for mine).

So i was wondering if it is posible to make the auto scaleing take into account the sticky steps too.

2). Would it also be posible to scroll the regular steps independent of sticky steps? If I have a sticky step and get past the 10 steps after it before completeing the sticky, the 11th step is not visible so I have to scroll down to see it, but now I can't see the sticky.

Gethe:   Thanks for the suggesttions.

Since your requests sound like they might involve some tricky UI work, could I ask you to file the bug on the development site: https://github.com/Jiyambi/WoW-Pro-Guides

That way it will not get lost.   Since most of the developers are students, we might have to wait till after finals.

Looks like someone is using your guide viewer

I was on wow interface the other day and noticed a link to a new WOW levelling guide, it looks like from the images on their site that they have modified your code to run their guide.  I have not downloaded a trial so I am not sure if they are using your guides and guide viewer.

http://www.xeleratedwarcraftguides.com/index.html

I thought this might be of interest.

Crackerhead22's picture

Yep, we know. Both Jame's

Yep, we know. Both Jame's and the author of TomTom (since they have TomTom packaged in) are trying to get those idiots to stop I believe.

xeleratedwarcraftguides

I have noticed that the guide site http://www.xeleratedwarcraftguides.com/index.html has been taken down.  Looks like a win for James guides and Cladhaire (TomTom author). :)

I just went to that page and

I just went to that page and it looks like whatever guide is still there.  Might want to check again...

I have just downloaded a

I have just downloaded a trial and looked through some of the code, the few pieces I looked at was the same.  Then I checked the 1 - 20 guides.  I have copied the content of their Guides.xml, it looks remarkably like the one in the WOW Pro addon.

<Ui xmlns="http://www.blizzard.com/wow/ui/">  <Script file="01_05_Bitsem_Echo_Isles.lua"/>  <Script file="01_05_Jiyambi_Valley_of_Trials.lua"/>  <Script file="01_05_Malorajan_Kezan.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Gylin_Mulgore.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Jiyambi_Tirisfal_Glades.lua"/>  <Script file="01_12_Snowflake_Eversong_Woods.lua"/>  <Script file="05_12_Bitsem_Durotar.lua"/>  <Script file="05_12_Malorajan_Lost_Isles.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Bitsem_Azshara.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Bitsem_Northern_Barrens.lua"/>  <Script file="12_20_Malorajan_Silverpine.lua"/>  <Script file="12_21_Snowflake_Ghostlands.lua"/> </Ui>

I would say they are selling your hard work.

On another note I would like to say thanks to everyone involved in creating your guides as they are very good.  I have been using this site since before you had an addon.

Shadowmoon Valley

I can't see shadowmoon valley in my guide list, is there4 any version I can get this in pls :)

So which version do you have?  The current version (2.1.12) is here:

Yes thats the version I've got. I followed the troubleshooting guide also and its not in any of the folders or in the xml file list.

No Shadowmoon Horde

I'm guessing you must be playing Horde then.

No one has writen that guide yet http://wow-pro.com/node/3286 is empty.

Odd.  I never noticed and you are the first to mention it!

I better check to see which other ones are missing.

Crap on a stick, I thought I had done this.  I'll see if I can do it.

EDIT: Working on it now.

Typo

This should be easy to fix. 'Next update' under the Wow-Pro leveling guide Download button says 'Mar. 11'. I say May.

Re: Typo

Duh!  Fixed.

There is a reason I am not allowed to book social events at home.

Fixed in the main page and the blog entry.

Swatter update

just thought I'd let others know the swatter update (latest I could find) is at 'http://auctioneeraddon.com/dl/AddOns/!Swatter-5.11.5113.zip'

Thanks very much for the great levelling guides! I am using them to gain exalted rep on my 85 now :D

Swatter

I would kinda expect that site and www.gathereraddon.com to have the latest swatter.  The Norganna Addons team maintains that addon, and the very latest is in the libraries subversion repository for the norganna addons  (see www.auctioneeraddon.com or www.gathereraddon.com).

Hi, I know this might sound a

Hi, I know this might sound a little petty, but I just wanted to point out on the Deepholm Guide it tells you to get the quest "A Slight Problem" twice and doesn't tell you where to hand it in. It also jumps to "Rescue the Stonefather...and Flint" but doesn't tell you to pick it up, which is right after the previous quest. Just thought you would like to know ;)

Ludovicus's picture

Re: Hi, I know this might sound a

I thought I fixed that in for version 2.1.8 of the addon.

Which version are you/were you using?

Re: Ahh, i was using 2.1.7

No worries; I have a bad habit of fixing bugs as I play, and I was racing to get to L85 before Noblegarden.

Deepholm Guide Suggestion

On the Deepholm guide, an additional step would be of great help between steps 179 and 180 for "The Middle Fragment" quest.  Just something telling us to loot the middle fragment from the vault.  Made it all the way back to Yevaa before I realized I couldn't turn the quest in and had to fly back.

character build

would it be possible to add an optimized leveling build that will show you where to put points to make leveling even faster

Ludovicus's picture

Talent Tree Guidance

I was thinking about that the other day, but I got bogged down by some of the math:

  • 10 classes
  • 3 talent trees each
  • Usually 2 minor variations within each tree
  • Possible PVP vs PVE builds
The obsessive, but smart people at Elitist Jerks I think have the best build information around. And building talent trees are a major issue with the DK guides as you build it quest-by-quest in the starting area. Most people just fill in everything and then end up having to respec later when they realize things are not the best they could be.

I'll put it in as a feature request, but it may be awhile.

Loch Modan zone

The guide for Loch Modan makes very little use of the "As You Go" tool, and in some places it would've been very useful. If needed I can find some specific places that it would be prudent to have the As You Go active.

I also noticed a minor typo in the last word of the description text for the step where we turn in "Altar of Naias" in Northern Stranglethorn Vale guide.

Hope this helps. :p

Thanks for the report! The Loch Modan guide was done in the last hour before Cata was released, so it's rather rushed and needs a re-work.

Got a little further along

Got a little further along the Mulgor 1-12 guide; there are steps in the guide that send you to the lifts to take you down the cliffs. The one in Orgrimmar is about 5,000 yards off. :P

01_12_Snowflakes_Azuremyst minor glitch

Simliar issue in the Azuremyst guide, but for me it is the "A Medicinal Purpose" quest that keeps coming back.  I think it is this line:

A Medicinal Purpose|QID|R|Draenei|9463|M|48.4,51.8|

Should this be:

A Medicinal Purpose|QID|9463|R|Draenei|M|48.4,51.8|

I guess I figured out my old account info! XD Jordanmiller and I are one and the same. I'll be using this account from now on, though.

To make this post relevant, I found a minor glitch in the Mulgore 1-12 guide.

When doing Thunderhorn Cleansing, the step that has you cleanse the well is automatically skipped over for some reason.

I'll take another look at some point, every time I run through it seems to works fine for me....strange :)

Ofc it could just be that I've run the zone so many times I don't even notice! :P

starcaller's picture

Some Mistakes I Found

I've been blazing through levels on my enhance shaman mostly using WKJezz's part of the guides. I've found a few glitches, though.

  • In the Draenei starting zone Azuremyst Isle, something is wrong with the quest Alternative Alternative. When you do the quest, every time you do anything past that part of the guide it reverts back to this step and you have to skip it again, as well as another quest whose name escapes me.
  • At the beginning of the Ashenvale guide, there's a step that says "Run here." it's the first run here step of this guide, and the dot is high up on an impossible to reach mountain. :p
  • When you go back to Ashenvale to take the quest "A Trip to the Moonwell" a quest popped up for me in the inn which wasn't picked up by the guide that would send me to the next place that the guide says to go to, and another breadcrumb quest was given after turning in A Trip to the Moonwell. It doesn't overwrite the other breadcrumb quest, but it's barely a thousand XP, so, eh.
  • During step 172/243 (Waypoint Series) You have us go all the way around the mountain chain, but there's a patch right in the middle of it. :)

Hope this helps.

4 Good Catches

Four decent comments.
I will take a quick peek and see if we can fix these before the next release.

Today is wasted, because I am traveling from Boston to Seattle for the week.
